Incorrect.     $800 deminimus.   from there to $2400, you will be invoiced import duty by your courier.   Above $2400 is considered commercial and must be itemized through customs

They'll buy your Langleys and Golden West

Much more reasonable than Daiwa. Only 11% on rods? I can live with that.

Can you get an expride B from Japan?

Yep. Digitaka and Japan Lure Shop both have Exprides available.

32%!  Figures, I just got a bunch of a world minnows and like them a lot.

Still better than Daiwa.  The Sol went from 360 to over 460-470.  Makes the initial price seem like steal.  They should have waited to launch Sol at iCast, it bet it would have won.

So the new Curado will be $239. $410 for a Bantam. No thanks. I’ll shop in yen or buy doyo

Not getting political but I have a suspicion most of these “tariff price increases” will find their way into the bottom line.

Where’s the tariff experts?

Japan? 15% when goods reach the country?

So get your JDM stuff ASAP?????

Or is just auto related? I can’t find great details yet.

I don’t believe there’s the de minimis amount anymore.

Shimano is a Japanese company.  Of course you can.

It's already happening - Walmart has increased prices on some items upwards of 50%

The primary topic in every conversation this year at ICAST wasn't FFS.  It was tariffs and inflation.  There's a ton of uncertainty.  Nobody wants price increases because they will reduce sales, potentially with catastrophic consequences.

Most companies are being very cautious while trying to remain optimistic.  However, the reality is that fishing is often considered a recreational sport, viewed as optional or a luxury by many.  And that's one of the first things that gets cut from family budgets.

One thing is certain, you will see more and more of this unless there is a course correction.

Above $2400 is considered commercial and must be itemized through customs broker.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED HERE.

Maybe tariffs will slow my spending down.

My wife would LOVE that.  :)

I believe you, but can you share a source.

I see the de minimis amount for some countries but not Japan.

Price increase on either end cause a strain

However, if 'companies' were real concerned about the consumer, especially the larger ones, they could always take the hit themselves.   Do annual profits Always need to be through the roof ? How about just eating any and all increase costs caused by tarrifs - so they get a little less profit.  They will be fine and they'll continue to sell products.  Might even gain a few new and brand loyal customers along the way.  Passing on the cost is weak salad and just an ANOTHER excuse to raise prices.

IMO, they don't need to, they choose to.

OK, I'm done.

Covid years spiked revenue in many industries

Covid increased the popularity of outdoor activities.

Golf, fishing, camping, etc. all increased dramatically.

Supply and demand.

Covid years spiked revenue in many industries and companies are still chasing that high instead of returning back to pre COVID ratios.

Very true. It happened in the alcohol industry. I saw the spike during COVID and the fall when the all clear was given.. our warehouses were full and sales plummeted. I saw 6 lines get shut down and 4 of those lines were not going to start back up for at least 1 year. A couple folks in sales etc lost their jobs due to failure to recognize that was going to happen..

We never shut down during Covid, we were deemed “essential” we made sanitizer on one line too..

Crazy days for sure.

I really don't see what the big deal is here. Taco bell for two goes in one way and out the other in mere hours, sometimes minutes. What's that?? $25-$30 if you go cheap? Fishing gear lasts years or decades. Tens of thousands of casts. How long did anyone expect $100 aluminum reels to stay at that cost? Forever? Besides, what hobby doesn't cost money and have price increases?

Wanna have a stroke? Play around with real high-end audio. Here you'll find the land of $17,000 phono cartridges. That's a record needle for you old timers. 20 years ago, that same cartridge listed at $10K. Fishing is by far the least expensive hobby I've ever had, even with their measly price increases. I'm not wheezing over it, and no, I'm not rich. Just a good saver.

I never spent more than 5 k on my equipment, & how many people on here do you think are spending 17k on a record needle?

Your point is well taken though.
