3/4oz Traps?

Featured Replies

Anyone have any success with the 3/4oz Rat-L-Trap? Where would I throw this in favor of the standard 1/2oz model? Is it only for getting deeper, or does it have shallow water applications too?

3/8 and 1/2 oz is about it for me. I do use a 3/4oz but only for deeper water,  around 20+ feet. I sometimes fish them like a spoon or a jig. I let it fall, pop it, reel quick and repeat.

I think I’ve still got a couple. They were nice for deep water, but just not as good for vertical/yo-yo presentations as the Red Eye and some of the JDM lipless baits.

If you want a 3/4oz bait but don't want the larger profile or want to shell out the $$ for the LV500, check out the Thunderhawk Sergeant. I throw them in shallow water all the time, does a great job on a straight retrieve but shines on a yo yo or jigging off the bottom. The lead weight in the chin makes it stand up on the bottom every time, and the rotating hook hangers are a nice feature. I do swap the line tie for an Owner oval split ring, but rest of the hardware is solid.

They get bit.

When you want Rat L Trap but bigger

3/4oz Red Eye Shad is a big bass bait

booyah one-knocker in 3/4 is also a big texas fish bait.

it's too bad my fish won't eat any sort of rattletrap, there's grass everywhere, it makes no sense.

3/4 and 1 oz. lipless baits are great for bomb casts. Still a relatively small bait, really.

If you ever fish El Salto, make sure you bring a few 3/4 oz Rattletraps in chrome blue back.
