You ever get hung up on a set up after a PB???

Featured Replies

So I caught my pb on a falcon lowrider and a lews lfs speedspool. My

shimano slx reels and other rods haven’t been touched since lol. And I have the urge to switch stuff over to lews and all falcon. Just curious as silly as it is if anyone else ever feels that way lol

Not really.

While I do have 'favorite rigs', my tackle is a tool.

If I made a great cut with a handsaw,

doesn't mean I'd start driving nails with it.

YMMV

I see your point as that’s where your confidence is right now.
If you’re thinking that way now what would you think when you use something else and get your next and next?

Don’t get to the point of having paralysis by analysis.
Trust me, it can get expensive

No on the rod and reel, but I will say, even if I fished them in thick cover with four pound test line every day for the rest of my life, my family will have to put on two yard sales a week for more than a year to get rid of all my square bills once I am gone.

Not with the rod and reel, but I am a firm believer in using soft split rings, as my last 2 PBs came on crankbaits thusly modified. The first being an H20X squarebill in gold, which got me a 4lb7oz. The second being a size 6 Rapala Shad Rap in silver black back which got me a 4lb11oz.

But you would use it the next time you needed to make a great cut saw cut.

No.  My two largest bass were caught on a spinnerbait, but an unweighted 10 or 10.5 Junebug colored ribbon tail is my most often lure as I catch more fish on it.

What soft split rings are you using?

I have no idea of which setup I used.  More than likely I don’t even have it anymore.

@new2BC4bass I tie them with braided line. I learned from this video

Even better, a couple weeks ago I hooked what could have been a PB bass or a giant pike and then snagged at the same time. I had hooked it on a dropshot and I could not make any ground on this fish it was so strong. This went on for several minutes. Eventually it got to the point where it felt like I snagged something, but if I stopped pulling I could still feel it tugging. Eventually the tugging stopped.

I was fishing around a floating dock, and I must have wrapped my line around an anchor line. I have lost lures to this line before, but never like this.

I put more stock in consistent performance.  I feel like more than a couple times setting a new PB, luck was more of a factor than skill.

Only on the bait I caught it on. A T-rigged black/blue Yum Dinger with 3/16 oz. pegged weight and 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu superline hook on straight 30# braid. I was pitching it to lilies that line the edge at the dam of the reservoir. I bought a 100 pack of the Yum Dingers from Amazon.

I am still using it on the same combo: a Falcon BuCoo pitching stick and Lew's Speed Spool reel. But I'm about to change that reel out because the drag has gotten too stickyy from years of abuse.

I have a stupid-good memory for fish I have caught, on specific lures, in specific locations. Hooked in to a great fish under a dock a few years back. Skipped a t-rigged Senko under there...hooked a good one...got him to the boat, then made a mistake and broke off. I still toss a Senko under that dock EVERY time I am on that lake. You never know....
