Pheasant Hunt 12/6/25

Cosmo and I hunted today for about 2.5 hours.  The snow is getting deep here and many areas are drifted in.  My dog turns 14 in February and is barely able to still hunt.  She and I have energy for about 2 spots.

First spot had 4 hens and 2 roosters.  The roosters flushed within seconds of each other and I folded both of them.  First one went down stone dead, but the second went down crippled.  For as old and as slow as my dog is, she still had the energy to track it down and retrieve it.  Second spot had 4 hens, then we quit.

Many of you here are used to seeing me post photos of my success while pheasant hunting here over the years, but these may very well be the last two I harvest with this dog.

Good on cosmo. No matter how old they get or tired their bodies are, they never stop until you make them stop.

also, good shooting to you. But mostly good dog cosmo.

She was able to muster a few more trips after this post on Dec 6.  We went 3 more times and had good results.  The season ends tomorrow.

I took a friend with today and we had a memorable hunt.  I have a nice photo to frame.
