Expride 7’4 H vs Xtasy 755

Featured Replies

I know that these rods aren’t in the same price category with a $250 gap between them, but I’d be very interested to hear if anyone has fished them both, and how they compare to each other in both action and sensitivity.

The Expride is labeled a mod-fast but I’ve always heard that Dobnys rods fish softer than other brands, so I’m wondering how similar they might be in this category.
When sensitivity gets brought up the NRX+ is always mentioned, and i know both of these models will be less sensitive, but I couldn’t really find a comparison between the two.  I’m curious how big of a gap there really is and if that $250 actually adds anything as far as sensitivity.

The Xtasy is a fast action but the 5 power rating is a bit over stated.  The Champion Xtreme XP 745  is a heavy.  I actually prefer the Xtreme over the Xtasy.

Check if your zipcode have xtasy on sale on amazon. They go on sale all the time on amazon. I purchase a 753 last year for 329.00.

I think Dobyns moving bait actions are among the best. For a dragging rod, I personally wouldn't  choose an Xtasy over NRX if for no other reason than resale value.

To further muddy the water. I'm hearing the new St. Croix X2 is impressive and the 7ft 4 heavy has always been a great jig rod across all lines.

No sure what your intended use is for the rod, but I own the poison adrena 7’4 H mod fast, which I assume is very similar to the Expride model. This is more of a “big moving bait” rod . I use it mostly for magdrafts and other swimbaits. It’s a little on the slow side for my liking for jigs, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

I don't know that expride model, but I really like the xtasy 755.  Feels very light in hand, tremendous tip and first third of the blank to pin trebles or drive a big jig hook, and finally a powerful backbone that can turn anything I'm able to hook into.  If you find it priced in the $300's and are considering it, I think it's a no brainer.

Ive heard mixed reviews about dobyns sensitivity, but not much about the xtasy. Do you feel like you're missing out on anything with it?

With the xtasy, no not at all.  It is sensitive and while probably not the best, it's really really good.  With the champion/fury, yes I do have a harder time discerning what's happening, and tend to use them for moving baits only.

It's worth checking Amazon resale for returned rods from time to time as well. They have a returned like new xtast 725c for $285 at the moment. I scored a champ extreme 795 for $155 through resale recently.

Thanks, that’s good to hear. I think you’ve mentioned having a conquest MBR or two? I suppose it’s night and day between the two in terms of sensitivity?

I basically feel like the 755 and a conquest 904 are 2 versions of the same rod.  And I love both of them.  Now that I have both, I'm confident saying that if you're going to get one, buy whichever is cheaper.

Sweet, that’s awesome to hear. What are your favorite things to throw on it?

Do you have any experience with the champion extreme? If so, how does it’s sensitivity stack up in your opinion?

They are 1A/1B with my favorite thing to throw; 1/2-3/4oz DJ cali swim jig w/ a 4-5" paddle tail.  The tip/backbone works wether I'm straight reeling, slow rolling the bottom, or dragging to set that beefy hook and turn them out of the slop.  You really can throw anything from 3/8-1.5oz, treble or single hook.  Magdraft, swim jig, grass jig, football jig, nichols duh spoon, lake fork flutter spoons, 10" worms, bull shad, bull flat, and mb vatalion are just some of what I remember tying on this year between the 2 rods.

I don't unfortunately.  Got an opportunity for a deal on the xtasy a few years ago, and skipped up from the champions.

Your getting too hung up on sensitivity, When I had a deal with Dobyns (pre xstasy) I fished nothing but champs and extremes and they did fine.

You will never hear anyone say the rods are too good and it gives the anglers an unfair advantage.

I like nice equipment but if I had to take every NRX and Steeze out of my boat and fish nothing but Cara's or extremes or whatever I'm going to catch the same fish.

I've got an Expride 7' 4'' H that I use to throw 6 inch Magdraft, Keitech Fat and 5,8 Rhythm Waves on a weighted hook (1/8 oz).  I like it a lot and it's wonderful for what I'm doing.  I don't want an hyper sensitive rod for that kind of presentation.  I want the fish  to take the BIG lure.

What you feel is the absence of weight more than the strike of the fish with these lures.  The Expride gives you that.

You’re probably right. My champion extremes are the most sensitive rods I own, so I’m always curious how other rods compare. Thanks.
