Hot Sauce versus Boat Drip Spray On Cleaner

Featured Replies

For the past couple years I have been wiping my boat down after each use with a rag with a few squirts of Hot Sauce on it, works great, if you do it each time you don't have to rub at all to remove the water spots from the boat/motor, they simply wipe right off with very minimal pressure and no repeated wiping necessary. I have a mostly black hull and a black motor so obviously water spots show very plainly and it only takes a couple minutes for a quick wipe down, it's by far the best product I have ever found for such things, it does a far better job than if you pressure washed it down and cleaned it with soap, etc...

I have been seeing a bunch of hooblah online about this Boat Drip spray, was curious how it worked compared to Hot Sauce.

Hot Sauce is most definitely a vinegar and liquid wax solution, but it works better than any home made vinegar concoction I have ever come up with. Was curious if this Boat Drip had vinegar in it too as vinegar is corrosive to some degree so if that could be avoided, seems like a win as long as it works as well as Hot Sauce.

Anyone have experience with both? Thoughts?

Thanks!

I’ve been using it on the motor. I keep bow to stern on the boat so most of the time just wipe with a wet cloth where water lines show.

Interesting, never heard of Bow to Stern either lol

I don't believe a wet cloth would work with Hot Sauce, would likely leave a somewhat smeared waxy looking finish, you basically have to re-wipe with Hot Sauce. It only takes a few squirts in a rag to do the entire boat, but it would be nice to simply use a wet rag. It may be fine on some colors, but the glossy black painted finish on my aluminum boat shows everything...

It is a sealant that can be used any where. I use it on the dash of my vehicles for uv protectant.

I keep Hot Sauce in my boat, spray and wipe down every time I pull the boat out of the water.

Made the mistake of not wiping down the boat over a long weekend camping / fishing. Man, those water spots were very hard to remove, once dried. I will not make that mistake again.

Great product. I order the gallon jugs on-line.

80/20 water/vinegar for wipe down. Slick Mist for shine.

It's cheap and works great but the vinegar will strip off your wax or sealant.

Has anyone used bass boat saver?

It works pretty good, but always wondered how it compares with hot sauce, boat drip, etc.

Been able to find a couple reviews of the Boat Drip spray that mentioned "the strong smell" so I am assuming, like Hot Sauce, it consists of Vinegar and some liquid waxes/polymers, everytime you see someone ask online how it compares to Hot Sauce, no answer lol

There is yet another one called "Boat Juice" that I think has a fruity smell according to reviews, no idea how it works or any of that... Maybe a citrus based cleaner, I have never found a citrus based cleaner that worked very well on water spots though.

I am going to try some bow to stern this year, see how it does. Had never heard of it before.

I use Bass Boat Saver primarily for the UV protection, but it also does everything well.

I asked AI to compare BBS, Hot Sauce and Slick Mist:

Hot Sauce (Boat Bling), Bass Boat Saver (BBS), and Lucas Slick Mist are popular spray-on, wipe-off boat detailing products, but they differ in focus: Hot Sauce excels at removing tough water spots, Bass Boat Saver is preferred for comprehensive cleaning and UV protection, and Slick Mist is a versatile, fast-acting, high-gloss wax spray

I used Bass Boat Saver for quite a while. The problem was that it had to be used every trip. I put Bow To Stern on maybe once every two months. Lots of times I don’t even have to do anything to the boat.

That’s interesting to hear. Do you spray the boat off each time or are you saying you just pull it out of the water and it’s done?

I usually wash my boat after each trip, or at least spray it down. But that gets old.

I did a lot of research recently on this topic. Seems like there are a lot of good products out there and I have no doubt that a variety of products would leave a fella quite satisfied. This is my plan: (given a grade A by AI)

1) Meguiar Marine Wax M6332 once a year
2) Wipe down wet and/or spray with water using a microfiber towel to dry
3) Apply Bass Boat Saver primarily but swap in Lucas Slick Mist, for the wax, once a month or so

I just bought a gallon of Bassboat Saver this morning. Lots of guys have raved about that over the years and they apply it to their fiberglass, seats, console, and tires.

All that I have done for the last 4 trips is clean the sonar screens, use Hot Sauce on the motor and run a wet rag over the cap because of all the stuff that we get on it while fishing.

Here is a pic of the side that I just took.

This is what I do

I’ve used Slick Mist and Hot sauce so far. Hot sauce after every trip. Slick mist every two months or so.

I use Hot Sauce regularly, Vinyl Sauce (seats), and Condition Sauce (twice yearly).

It's so easy to use and effective at removing stains and water spots. I can't comment on the use of the other products mentioned because there's a good chance I'll just keep using Boat Bling products as long as I own a boat.

Following up my earlier post. I've used Hot Sauce, Bass Boat Saver, BTS, and most others. Basically they are water and vinegar with a few drops of wax, or sealant, or witch oil, to allow them to claim some attributes and charge a lot of money. Good wax job once a year. Wipe it down regularly. Slick Mist, or whatever you like, occasionally and you're home free.

When the weather is good, I fish 4 - 7 days a week. If I know I'm going tomorrow, I'll stick a towel under the live well drain and wipe off the lake ring. (Sometimes).

To the best of my knowledge, they all work. They all cost too much.
