Welcome aboard.

you will probably get more answers faster if you let us know your price range, are you looking at spinning or baitcasting gear, etc.  The more specifics the better.

I would suggest a 7 foot Medium Power Spinning Rod (a lot of guys like St. Croix, I personally like Cabelas XML spinning rods) with a decent Spinning Reel (I think for the money a Pflueger Trion or President is the way to go).  This should get you back in the saddle.

Welcome aboard!

Spend some time in this section and go back through the pages. I think you'll find all the suggestions you are looking for. A lot depends on how much you want to spend. As a general recommendation, I think you can do all your fishing on one rig, but if you are up for two these are the general parameters I would suggest:

6 1/2' or 7' Spinning combination, Medium Power/ Fast Action (finesse)

6 1/2' or 7' Baitcasting combo, Heavy Power/ Fast Action (power fishiing)

a third rig, now or down the road:

6 1/2' or 7' Baitcaster, Medium Heavy Power/ Moderate Action or a soft tip for treble hook lures.

Welcome To The Forum!!!

Just like stated, "Best" is a subjective term. Subjective to one's personal preference's and budget restraints. Just no getting around it...

A budget range would help. ;)

Tight Lines !!!

Come on, it doesn't matter what his price range is, everyone is going to recommend G Loomis and Shimano. ;)

Did you catch that catfish while noodling.....The best set would be G-Loomis rods and Shimano reels or perhaps the new ABU Revo Premier......

............what are your recomendations  on what type of Bass rods and reels are the best.........?

There is not an objective answer to that question.

Like Reelmechanic said, budget is a good beginning.

There is no "best" just "favorite."

When I was last into Bass fishing, over 20 years ago,

Ambassadeur was considered the best.....and the favorite.............I guess what I am asking is.......Do you get more quality for the extra money?   or is it worth the extra money to pay more.....and what reels are the ones you would get if money was no object ?

Welcome aboard.

You said you used to have Abu Garcia reels. They are good reels and will last forever,( that's all I use), plus they are very affordable.

As far as rods are concerned, there are many good manufacturers out there. I like St. Croix, however, I have a couple Quantum and Guide Series rods that I like alot. It all depends on your budget.

Good luck,

Falcon

Welcome to the best Bass board on the net. ;)

I like nice equipment. In the last year or so i got back into fishing myself. Bought a boat, several rods and reels, and like you, I want the best stuff available.

For rods I have found a couple different companies make some realy nice offerings. I typically buy the best rods from their respective lines, and have been very happy with my purchases.

Rods:

I use to be a GLoomis diehard, but now my GLX rods are at the bottom of my boat. The new line of Steez rods by Daiwa are just awesome. Expect to pay anywhere from $350-$600 retail for these rods. When you pick them up and compare weight to other companies offerings, you will understand what I am talking about. I also really like Fenwick Techna AV rods. They are super light and super sensitive, and much more competitvely priced at ~$200 a piece. You cannot go wrong with either. Kistler rods I might add are very nice too. I use a 7'6" model for fishing frogs.

Reels:

Again, I was a huge fan of Shimano but Daiwa reels feel much more precise (no backplay) and simply look nicer in my opinion. Their Steez reels are insanely light, precise, and can handle just about anything you throw at them.  For $450 they are money well spent. I also love their Zillion line of reels, which is their workhorse reel. Strong and for $250 they are a bargain. Not to mention that they can cast a lure a country mile.

The one Shimano that I do find impressive is the Stella spinning reel. They run about $500, and paired with a Steez spinning rod there is no better spinning rod combo on this earth. Just ask Low Budget Hookers from the board. ;D

Redlinerobert could buy several 3rd world countries for the amount he has spent on fishing gear! LOL

Let's put it this way.  What his girlfriend got him for Christmas last year is more then I spent on all my tackle and I have several G Loomis IMX and GLX rods.

My favorite is the 110. This bait is the mac-daddy of jerkbaits. I also use the Deep-X 100's. The Griffon series and Cyclone series are hard to beat. I throw these sometimes instead of a spinnerbait. When you go to buy them don't get them on eBay. There are other places that they can be bought for alot less. A few of the sponsers on this site sell them. Oh yeah, don't overlook the topwater baits and spinnerbaits they sell. They are KILLER!!!!! ;)

Any time Gary.  As far as MegaBass Lures are concerned, you can't go wrong.  The problem I have is that I end up never using them because they are so beautiful!

Beautiful Enzo by the way!  My good friend Eric Peterson has an Enzo as well, use to belong to Sergei Federov.
