Quantum has really stepped up their game.  There all new PT is looking quite good. Carbon Fiber handle?! Verrry nice touch that we enthusiasts can really appreciate. I mean...the first production carbon fiber handle offered on a reel...and it's on a Quantum! Sure wouldn't have predicted that one. 7ozs is also very respectable for a rigid aluminum framed reel. The red highlights also speak of Quantums desire to be in the mix with the likes of Daiwa in producing some very contemporary looking reels. Bravo...

These are nice looking reels.  They sure don't look like the Quantum's of years passed.  Man, it sure is a nice time to be a bass fisherman.  There has been so many advancements that I have noticed just in the two years I have been fishing seriously.  I have always quasi kept up with fishing technology but I don't ever remember being as excited as I am right now. It's just amazing to see each companies offerings as we get closer to 2009.

I just hope all of these advancements come at a reasonable price...

OH MY

They can look cosmetically cool but it's what on the inside that counts.  I hope they have improved the quality of their parts.  One things for sure though, it has style.

If somebody with the techical knowledge ( somebody like RM ) did me the favor of telling me that Quantum has achieved the durability and dependability Shimano and Daiwa reels have then I would consider purchasing a Quantum reel, that very first Quantum I purchased many moons ago left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

How 'bout the guts, has Quantum finally come up with a competitive reel?

Many moons ago I had a shimano that left a bad taste in my mouth- I think all of the manufacturers have improved in quality at least in the higher end market.  I have owned the last couple Energy PT gen reels and a tour PT- very solid but definately not very popular on this forum. Nothing wrong with quantums as far as I'm concerned.

That's all I need another reel to purchase.

I don't know the answer to that  .  You'd think in today's age that any of the higher-end reels would last a decent amount of time.  Since I only keep my reels a maximum of 3-4 years, tight tolerances/build quality and attention to detail mean the most to me.  You know how you can just tell?  I'll know within 20 seconds if I think they have moved forward...I just need to pick it up and turn the handle  8-)

I hope they got all the play in the handle out.  That was the thing i didnt like when i fished my buddys tour edition for a day.

Pretty nice.  Too bad I just picked up the last two reels I felt I needed for now.  Well at least until something takes a crap.

Quantum Tour Edition PT's are a little harder to set up properly and according to RM  take more lube more often than some  reels, but they are good durable reels.  I have used mine on King Salmon up to 20 pounds with runs of 100 yards or more, casting many thousands of casts on everything from small bass to the Kings, and have never had a malfunction.  Their drags are bulletproof.  I expect most bass fishermen never really see their drags challenged.  

My Quantum Cabo has taken many barracuda up to about 25 pounds and other salt water fish that make runs of over 200 yards in some cases and it never malf'd either.  I think Quantum has making good drags down pat.

I expect all manufacturers of reels these days are making some pretty good stuff.

Personally, I don't really care how pretty a reel is.  Some of the Quantums tend to be gaudy, in my opinion.   What's with that iridescent stuff?

Can't do that...

I had a couple of Quantum AC's from early 2K, they were all right. But the minuet I get a chance to get my hands on any of the older LH Green Cu's I grab them.

Got rid of the AC's,  the only Quantum' I have now are the slower gear ratio 5.4:1 Competition (QG's) and an old 5.1:1 EX501 that I throw my spinnerbaits on.

Just found a bunch of LH Green Curado 201B's (our flea market) that I can change gear ratios on to fit my needs.

I don't see a lot of Quantum' in my shop anymore, they don't seem to be that popular here in my area.

Just my .02¢ from the bench....
