So the improved clinch is easier to tie but the palomar is supposed to be stronger. what should i go with?

I use palomar when I am tying on a hook, and improved clinch when I am tying on directly to a lure. I find the palomar easier to tie but on lures it is more difficult with trebles and other places for the line to catch.

What type line are you using - makes a difference. Of the two, palomar wins hands down in my book for the majority of uses. BTW, for me, the palomar is the easier of the two to tie, especially in low-light/no-light situations.

i use 10 lb mono most of the time because i have a light shakespeare rod and baitcaster reel...

Palomar...easier to tie for all baits and hooks.

As for it being difficult of certain baits with trebles..just make a bigger loop..works like a charm..

Either knot will work fine on mono. I used the Imp Clinch Knot for years until I read someplace the knot strength was a little better for the Palomar. That may or may not be true but I got into the habit... I use it most of the time, even with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. A Crig is the only place I routinely use a Clinch Knot anymore.

Palomar on hooks, snaps, snap swivels, etc. Improved clinch when tying on to lures or other stuff where it's hard to get the palomar loop over the item. For braid - always palomar.

When my fingers are cold, I can usually tie an improved clinch easier than a palomar ... but that's just me....

Plain old cinch knot and loop knot 100% of the time for any lure.  Singe the tag end and they never pull thru.  Most knots work fine for freshwater as long as you take the time to tie them correctly.

Be sure you don't "burn" the line when tying.

i use the improved clinch knot for every bait i throw except on a drop-shot rig . i have never had a knot fail on me , i use them on all my swimbaits ( 8'' hudd's ROF 12 and 16 , 8'' BBZ-1 , etc.... ) and trust them without a doubt ..... btw , i use the improved clinch on braid , yep , don't let anyone tell you that it won't work and will slip cause it won't  !!!!
