So what fishing line is everybody using nowadays. Last 6 or so years I've been using Berkley Trilene XT(8 pound), pretty happy with it other than the strength. I'm sick of losing big Pike and other types of fish, it doesn't happen much, been when it does I'm extremely ticked. I tried Fireline once when I was younger, but did not like it, I think the fish spotted it most the time. Then there's fluorocarbon, I heard a lot of people are using it as a leader nowadays and using some other braided line. I'm really not much for that idea. I guess when it comes down to it I'll have to try fluorocarbon myself.

I regularly fish for bass, but I don't mind catching other fish at times. I really never gun for one species.

I'm overall looking for a stronger line.

I read (quickly) every comment on every brand of line that BPS carries.  The three mono lines that had the best reviews were Ande, Yozuri and P-Line.

P-Line, Gamma and Yo-Zuri are options you should consider.

All three are extremely strong and highly abrasion

resistant.

I was in the same boat as you. A couple of guys on here suggested to me to try P-Line Evolution and Floro. I spooled them on my two new setups. I still need to get out and try them out. It's been tough seeing as it was 30 degrees here today.

im using berkley vanish #12 in by baitcaster and Zebco onmiflex #8 in my spinning, i havent had any of the problems that people complain about with the vanish, i actually was able to pull my buddy's boat to the snag to get it out. took the vanish a few casts to get limp and cast long, but i really like it.

Yeah, I might give that one a try.  Maybe Berkley's Vanish too.

yo zuri, man.... and maybe stop using 8lb test for pike.  go to 12 at least.

If you choose YoZuri, you may want to try the Ultrasoft...has way less memory..I use on all but 1 of my rigs, both spinning and baitcasters..great stuff!!! 

I use Triline XL in 8 lb. test.I have never had any trouble with this line.

for spinning reels i use and highly reccomend 6-8 # P-LINE CXX . i have been using 6 lb. CXX and the line is super strong but has to be changed out regularly , starts gaing ALOT of memory . have some 12# CXX on my INSHORE (revo) and manhandled a 11 lb. catfish yesterday with it , the stuff is crazy strong but like i said previously , the memory sucks !!!! another line i use is IZORLINE XXX , another very strong co-poly line !!! i use this for throwing swimbaits ( 25-30 lb. test ) alot more managable than the CXX , especially in higher # test like 15-30 lb. .....

You're a little bit more man than I am. Yep, I said it.

I use Trilene mono XL smooth 12lb.  I don't loose fish to the line strength, when I loose'em it's cause of a clinch knot... The one thing I do to ensure quality line and strength is I respool often, maybe once every 2 months.

In my limited experience with these lines, I've found Gamma CoPoly to be about as strong as Yo-Zuri UltraSoft and much more manageable on spinning reels.  I currently use Gamma in both #6 & #10 on spinning reels and #10 & #12 on casting reels.  Admittedly, Gamma is expensive, but given the rate at which I loose lures, it's cost is justifiable to me.

I use Yo Zuri 6 lb on my spinning outfits. Last spring I caught a 39 pound flat head on a small crank and fought it for 40 minutes. That line held up remarkedly well. Of course there was some abrasion from that monster's teeth.

If you are losing Pike, Northerns etc., and toothy critter ITS NOT YOUR LINE.

I think 8# is way to light for pike. I usually use 12 and if I am specifically going for pike I'll use 17# with a steel leader. Having said that a few years ago when fishing for smallies we got a 14# and a 16# pike on 8# and 10# but we considered ourselves very lucky.

i use an improved clinch for pretty much everything including big swimbaits , never had a line fail at the knot , and i use the same knot on power pro braid without problem ........
