What is the difference between mono and flourocarbon line?

Which ones have you tried? It would help to know, so we are not suggesting one's you have tried already.

It really is a hard line to find.I'm in the same boat....I've tried P-line,Trilene,BPS XPS,Stren and vicious.

I liked BPS XPS fluorocarbon the best right now.

But I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Sunline Fluorocarbon.It's a bit pricey,however everybody that I've talked to say it's the best and most manageable fluorocarbon on the market right now.

It is NOT any more invisible than mono, its stiff, it breaks on hard hooksets, and has terrible memeory. Everyone else can keep FC, and I'll keep catching fish.

It may suck to you...but it has it's advantages.

Don't give up on fluorocarbon.  It is very useful for the right baits.  I use P-line fluorocarbon and P-line Halo fluorocarbon.  It is supposed to be stiffer than mono.  It is also so much more sensative than mono.  What problems are you having with it?  Are you using it on spinning or baitcasting?  Proper spooling is crucial to good line behavior.

I'm slowly switching all my rods to Fluorocarbon (except for my topwater rig).  I find it a lot more sensitive than mono and it really does have more abrasion resistance.  The two brand I found to perform the best overall are XPS Fluorocarbon and Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon.

Fluro isn't the end all to mono type lines, I find the 100% trilene fluro to be poor in breakage, and abbrassion resistence...I'll stick with YoZuri coployler line.   And braid.

I am by no means an expert, nor even very experienced, but for value, the yo-zuri far outdistances everything. You can get 600 yard spools from cabelas everyday for 13 bucks, everything else seems to be 14 to 25+ for 250-275 yards.

Yo Zuri is not a fluorocarbon, as it's name suggests it is a FC/nylon blend.

I believe the vast majority of fluoro haters have not used 100% fluoros or quality lines. I used to hate it for that very reason. I kept trying blended or coated lines because they said "fluorocarbon" on the box and they were cheap. Pay for the good stuff before you make your judgment. You will not regret it. I love the stuff now.

I'm a Seagur guy as well, personally I can't feel the difference in sensitivity much. ( I also can hardly feel my finger tips from exposure during ice fishing  :.) So take that with a grain of salt, but the abrasion resistance is downright phenomenal when it comes to most flurocarbons.

It isn't a line for the twice or three times a month fisherman.

Don't bother with using fluorocarbon line. It was only good enough to be part of the winning combination that won the Bassmasters Classic.

well i've used the bps brand and trilene and thats the ones i hate. sooo this seagur stuff must be pretty good eh?? :-?

Wow, you must know something that's being over looked on the Pro Tour because the majority of them rely on Florocarbon for many applications. I'm not a pro but in my opinion is that the Florocarbon haters have either bought inferior types of Floro like Vanish or Vicious or are not careful when tying knots etc when using the line.

That said I don't want to come accross like you need to use Florocarbon to be a successful fisherman or that it's the right line for every application. To say that Florocarbon sucks seems to contradict the expierience of some of the best fisherman in the biz like KVD who have a lot of money riding on getting fish in the boat and wouldn't use it if it were the liability that you portray it to be. I also have my own expierience with this line that has helped me put 100's of fish in the boat every year with no more problems than any other type of line that I've used.

Back on topic I reccomend Trilene 100% based on the lines that I've tried so far.

I think flourocarbon is great stuff. I've caught A TON of bass on flouro and have never broken off a fish on the hookset. Do any of u guys use the palomar knot? It's the only knot i use. I used vanish transition the last 2 years and my only complaint is the lack of abrasion resistance. I just bought a ton of triple fish flouro cuz it was on crazy clearance and it seems fine. I've used seaguar carbon pro and again, no major complaints.

I used the Improved Clinch knot. I've never had a problem with either knots but I've read and heard many times that a clinch knot is better for fluoro. I guess a palomar may cut into itself and brake with fluoro.

Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon is the best I've used.

I'm not a fan of using straight fluorocarbon on spinning reels. It's too stiff. I prefer to use braid with a fluoro leader instead.

On a baitcasting reel, flouro works much better and can be very effective.

last year i got trilene 100% flouro on super sale and decided to give it a shot.

i put it on my t-rig rod as i felt that that would be the best test/use for its supposed attributes.

i cant lie.... it was great... and the same spool lasted me most of the year. i liked it alot. however....

i cant talk myself into paying that much for it when i feel that yozuri is as good/almost as good for half the price or less. yo zuri casts better (i was using 15lb.) but then with a t-rig i wasnt making huge casts too often. most of the time in fact i was pitching. in the end im just going to respool with yozuri this year (already did) and maybe if i can get some on super sale again ill pick some up for cranking.

other than that i just cant justify the expense.
