I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Howdy yall' my name is Jonathan White. I grew up with a Jon boat and a small pond and that's what we did, was pond fish. I was able to get out on Lake Conroe from time to time. Fast forward to today and Lake Conroe is where I spend most my free time. I never seriously fished it when it was full of grass, I'm used to seeing carp tails everywhere! We made our first trip to the big pond last November the week after George Herr caught his big bag. The cabin we were staying in is just south of millionares point near alligator cove. That big cold front just hit and it was starting a warming trend that week with rain 3 out of the four days we were there. We had a idea to start a little deeper but right away I caught two 4 1/2 lbers on a frog in 3-4 fow at 2pm. We stuck to that pattern till dusk without another strike. The frog bite happened again the next morning with my buddy catching two nice ones,. The next two days we went to Indian mounds, white oak, housen, and hurricane focusing on the grass edge lines and some punching as well. Only had a couple of drinks in the boat. We were in awe of the big pond. It is heaven on earth!! Then last week I found this forum and have not been able to stop reading! We were in the right spots just not fishing them properly. Thank you very much for teaching us this class CATT. Also thank you Bass_fanatic, Bearonthewater, Shanus, Long Mike, Wesley, Tbendbassin, Ronnie, Skeeterdon, Many boy, Cajunpapi, Expresskid, Mguidroz, Body, Toledomard928 and I'm sure I missed a few. My fishing partner and I will be trying to make 4-6 trips out there this year and we would really enjoy meeting y'all this spring at fin in feather. Thanks for everything and god bless

I'm planning on being at the unofficial road trip in March, hope to meet a few of y'all as we'll!

Welcome Grangerland, this is a great site to learn from it has really opened my eyes the way I fish the bend now.

Grangerland!

Welcome!

Great report ;)

Fished a tournament Saturday out of 6 mile in the cold and wind. Here are the results.

It was truly one of the toughest days on the Bend I've had and years. Water temps ranged from 40-46 with stained to muddy water clarity.

Started out in 6 Mile fishing a few grass points and ridges near the mouth of Sandy flipping and throwing ARig where possible with no luck. Ran to Houssen and focused on the outer grass lines in 15-20ft both out on main lake and the stems with no luck. Finished the day in Hurricane dragging a jig and CRig still with no luck. I located fish on the graph but just could not get them to feed. At the weigh in I realized I wasn't the only one that struggled, 8lbs won. The winning pattern was an ARig.

Truly a tough and frustrating day but I will be back at Em next weekend.

Wish I had a better report but I guess we can't whack em every trip.....

Thanks for the report JWare. I should be there this weekend and will give a update. As of now the weather look pretty stable and a warming trend for the weekend.

JWare, winter on the Bend ;)

Water temps 40 and stained to muddy water,,,ouch.

Don't know what happened to the font size............

This time of year your either going to be a hero or zero. The lake will turn on just as fast as it will turn off. The key is to keep fishing it!

I will be there if I don't have to work. I'm awaiting our turnaround schedule at the refinery. I may have to play hooky....lol

Y'all need to sign up with Long Mike ;)

I'm in.  Prob miss you Catt as I have to be at Texoma on Friday and Saturday.  Will be my first trip down there and with the wife to boot.

Somebody should be going this weekend, gonna be 2 more weeks for me.

I just got back offshore. It'll be at least 2 weeks til I get back up.

Last trip up for me was tough. San Miguel turned to mud & water temp was 47 deg. Caught 1 Tuesday (1 1/2 weeks ago) on a jig & missed 2. Scratched Wednesday afternoon in 20+ mph winds post frontal, & caught 2 Thursday afternoon in 23 fow, jig & black brush hog Carolina rigged. That's the first time I've had ice on my reel's line guide!

Ronnie, ya need to head south ;)

Ronnie, ya need to head south ;)

I agree Catt, but I usually question my choices down there since I seldom trailer south. I guess I just need to go explore sometime.

Ronnie, the whole lake is a question mark to me :Idontknow: , but I'll keep after it.

Fishing Report

I fished Housen and six-mile Sat and half a day Sunday. I had three bites no fish, zero, nothing.

I fished a 1/2oz jig and 1/4oz TR creature baits on break lines in 12 to 25 fow. The three bites I had were associated with wood in 17 fow.

Housen water temp was 46 to 50 muddy in the back and slightly stained at the month. Six-mile was the same with high line cove having the best water clarity. Anyway it was a nice weekend to be on the water and hope to get back soon.

Seriously guys, if you are planning on attending our annual Bass Resource road trip, to be held the18th -23 March please PM me and please contribute to our pinned Road Trip thread in the General Bass Fishing Forum.

Mguidroz, thanks for the report! Sure has been some beautiful weather to be on the water but that report sure don't give me much incentive to go try em!

LM, I would LOVE to be at the road trip but I hate I'm gonna be at work. Hopefully one of these times I will be able to be off! Y'all have fun, sure wish I could be there!

Many Boy, you know someone is catching them somewhere on the lake. It just wasn't my weekend. Oh well, I'll do some more homework and hit it again....

So none of y'all can make the road trip?

Looks like I will be able to make it unless my work schedule gets changed.
