I was able to sneak out the other night after getting the kids to sleep and ran into a new PB! 6lbs 3oz at a little lake by my house. I found an offshore weedline in about 10ft of water on my portable

Kinda rough weather in northern IL today but I've been on this 3-day weather pattern the last couple weeks (fishing the 3rd day of warm day/warmish night trend) and today is the target day. I decided

All this rain,  then hot weather has caused rough fishing.  Finally picking up. Tournament tonight,  caught 9 fish.  All were 1-2 inches short of keeping.  Got to love it.

Another Saturday,  maybe I can get things going then.

Catch of the Day. Local pond, baby brush hog in green. Flipped it next to moss and a little scrub bush at the edge of the water about 3 feet in front of me and pulled this out. :)

Guys/gals
My dad was given the task to organize some fishermen to help teach kids to fish. If any of you have nothing going on August 12th and feel like helping some kids just north of the cheddar curtain, here's your chance. His contact info is at the bottom of the post.

Fellow Sportsmen & Sportswoman:

Would you want to help our youth put down their electronic devices and enjoy an opportunity to participate and enjoy the great outdoors. If so, please consider volunteering for a unique program on August 12, 2017.

All of the information can be obtained by googling "Youth Day - Game Fair".

The Conservation Heritage Education Foundation ( a 501(c)(3) tax exempt entity) is presenting Youth Day - Game Fair on August 12, 2017 at the nearby Halter Wildlife Conservation Area, 9626 113th St.,Pleasant Prairie, WI. Our program is focused on Youth from 5 - 15 years old and requires parent involvement in order to participate.

The program has six segments and I am coordinating the Fishing, fly Casting, etc. portion. Our real need for volunteers to assist the youths in learning how to cast using a Spinning combos, bait casting combos, and Spin Casting combos, and sharing your experiences on handling issues which are encountered on the water. In addition, volunteers will get a free BBQ lunch.

If you are interested, please call or e-mail me.

Sincerely,

James J. Matousek CPA

Went out to Beulah Lake yesterday, 2nd time out there this year and yet another windy day.  My wife caught the biggest for the day a 17". She also got 4 more around 14". She started to fish an underspin this year and has had good results. I got two bass just over 16" and 6 more under 15" all on jigs.

Are you referring to  the Silver Lake in S.E WI off of 50 and  Hwy "B"?

No, Highland, Illinois. It's the one I-70 splits.

Anybody from the effingham area looking for a co angler for fun trips?

I just started fishing this year and been interested in boat fishing but mainly been bank fishing.

Went to Shelbyville this past weekend and caught 3 around 3-4lbs and 2 others around 15". Starting to figure out how to fish deep and it's starting to be really fun!

Yeah it is went to Newton yesterday caught my first jig fish.

Jig fishing took me a lot of time to get used to, but once you get confidence in them it's worth it. My fish on Shelbyville came on a square bill early on, then a 6xd and a 10" worm later in the morning.

Ive been wanting to get down to newton and fish some deep cranks! My boat is only 25hp so it's nice to be able to fish limit lakes.

Well if you ever come down and want a co angler let me know

May take you up on that offer when they start the winter tournaments this year. I've been wanting to fish those for a while.

I have had some success going up the hot water arm on hot days throwing deep cranks when the majority of boats seemed to be up the cold water arm doing their thing. I just like getting away from the crowd. Mind you, with all the changes in discharge and them shutting down partially, I'm certainly not up on how it is now. Last time I was there was last summer.

It's still producing good bass but the bass population has taken a hit.

The jig is the way to go at Newton in the summer I get on the points with a 3/4 ounce jig and that's the best way to catch the keeper size fish. The Texas rig and deep cranks will get better numbers but usually not as many keepers.

That's what I mainly do at the ramp area is crank and Texas rig.

Me and my friend went a few weeks ago and caught 71 but only 5 keepers. Caught all the keepers on a jig but caught a ton of fish on swim baits that were schooling. It was a blast though best trip I've had in awhile.

From indiana but been meaning to fish newton,. Did you guys see where newton was ranked 7th in the central part of the country for big bass lakes?

Nice I don't have a boat so I just fish along the bank.

Oh I gotcha some of the fish were schooling right around the dock when I was there.

I fished a new lake this past 4th of July weekend. Lauderdale lakes in S.E. Wisconsin. Went out there with my buddy and got there around 6 a.m. I started fishing and underspin and he started with a top water. Right out of the launch I picked up a small bass. In the next 2 hours we picked up 20 bass and 6 pike. The biggest bass was 14". Next the inevitable happened, my buddy hooked me with a treble hook which went through my hat and then into my scalp behind the ear. My buddy couldn't push the hook through to cut the barb so we ended up going to emergency to a hospital in in Lake Delavan. Anyway, 2 hours later and a tetanus shot we were back at Lauderdale Lakes. When we got back we fished for 5 more hours and picked up 3 more pike and 6 more bass the fishing really slowed towards noon. All in all it was a good day fishing. I guess if you want to take someone out to learn how to bass fish this is a good lake as it has tons of bass everywhere. The only drawback was all the bass were small a lot of 12-13" bass. I would like to try this lake in early Spring, and I will try it in late fall this year when the lake empties from boat traffic.

I was also out at Lake Beulah as well and will post some pics later.

My wife and I went to Lake Beulah on the 4th of July. I had a really slow day on the water , but my wife did really well. She got 6 fish with the three biggest being 15-1/2, 16 and 18" The 18" was almost 3 lbs. She caught them all on my custom made underspin. I am really proud of her fishing skills she has developed over the years. Job well done. Whatever she did that day, she did well and out fished me. She's been kicking my butt fishing this year.  Plan on going to Little Muskego on Saturday. I'll post results next Sunday.
