Is anyone else worried about if Hurricane Earl decides to come up right along the East coast instead of it just clipping us?

I live in VA and if it takes that path I think VA and Northern NC will be hit the worst. Whats your thoughts on Hurricane Earl?

I would be if I was at the OBX. The projected path looks a little too close for comfort...

Yes.  As time goes by, projected paths always seem to move west.  A little more west and we have a path right over the Outer Banks, NC and Hampton Roads, Va.  It's supposed to be a Cat 4 storm by Thursday.  If it hits, it will make a Hurricane Isabel look like a walk in the park.

Time to get more gas for the generator.  My neighborhood was without power for nearly 2 weeks when Isabel hit. 

I don't predict more than 3 days out and I don't get too worried until 1.5 days out.

Last one we had here in Maryland was to our west richmond area but it hit my brother hard on the Chesapeake bay .It (coastal flooding ) took his surburban and moved it 20 foot up against a tree by his house >Now i live on the bay not as close as he was but if it comes near VIR or MD .Im takin my kids more inland .YUP ill be skeered not for me but my family i dont funk with mother nature .....Tornados,high sustained winds and lightning are my fear .Thing is with a hurricane tornados can pop up anytime if down pours aint enough. if All this happens at NIGHT  im fit to be tied

Don't care for the Hurricane but we sure could use about 10 to 12" of rain.

Well, you and me both are in for a long night because If it comes the westerly path its gonna be all over user late thursday night and veryearly friday morning.

But, i'm man enough to admit i'm scared. When I was younger a Hurricane came up from florida to up here and was spawning tornadoes left and right. One actually tore up my neighborhood sparing my half of it. I sure hope it doesn't take the western path abd turn the east coast into a New Orleans.

Edit: The rain will be very nice for fishing though because rain this summer, has been few and far between for my area

Well guys, stock up on supplies and cash.  We got hit with 100+mph winds a few years ago, and the entire area was without power for days.  Stores were open with generator power, but card swipe machines and cash machines didn't work!  Cash-only environment then, boys.  Take heed!

btw - gas stations didn't work either.  Folks ran out of gas for their generators and couldn't refill their gas cans.  So get some now and fill up the truck while you're at it.

We are still fixing things from the severe flooding in March. If this thing hits, we are screwed. The state is broke as it is. It's funny how all the local stations have it well off the coast but all the national and mainstream sites have it coming right off the coast or right over us. It's like they are trying to calm us down, lol.

There is a cold front in the midwest heading east and this cold front will move the storm up the coast line and towards Canada.

Maybe some rain along the coast (30% in Virginia Beach) but nothing major inland. Winds will be in the teens on Thursday and Friday as the storm passes by the coast.

Tidal rivers will be affected which cold make bass fishing difficult.

Otherwise, we really do not expect anything major in Virginia.

I am getting ready for an annual Labor Day weekend on the Piankatank in VA.   Not sure what to expect there.  I am sure it will affect us some how.  I guess we'll need extra coolers to make sure the beer stays cold.

We def. need the rain here in Pa, but I would rather have a drought than have all you guys get hammered by a 'cane. Good luck to you all. Hopefully the storm decides to go East and stay over the ocean

Actually, it most likely will take its path just clipping VA an NC, but the center is just clipping us. We still get the full force, especially where I live in Eastern VA (Stafford).

But it all depends on how fast the Hurricane and the cold front are moving, along with the angle of the cold front. Luckily late last nite the hurricane is moving 1 mph less, which actuallt could make a difference. But, the pressure has dropped to 933 millibars which means its getting stronger. But the angle of the cold front tells us where it goes. It could hit directly at NC or take a direct hit to Maine. I guess we'll just have to wait now won't we  :

Hurricanes don't worry me all that much anymore.  After living through Andrew, I know what the worst case is.  200 mph winds were no joke.  With my new house, I know I'm safe.  I don't really concern myself worrying about them when they are that far out.  Once it gets to the three day forecast then I'll really pay attention.  I keep my house stocked each year with Hurricane stuff ready just in case.  Like Glenn said, have cash on hand.  Anything else is useless.  Have gas also.  Fill your car up, gas may not be available for a while.  I usually go out and buy a good 50 gallons or so to have at the house for the generator.  I'll also fill the boat tank if it's going to be a really bad storm.

Unfortunately, I've got to agree.  We're really due for another major storm.  We haven't had a major storm in South Florida since Andrew steamrolled the area.  Some Cat 1's and 2's and thats been about it.

Wilma was no picnic back in 2005, we lost power for about a week, no phone for 4 weeks and gas was hard to come by for quite a few days.  We had a pretty fair amount of damage to our home, of course we were insured but any named storm puts the 2% deductible in force.

On the bright side, the snapper were in and the bluefish were running.

60% chance of rain with winds up to 30 MPH is on the agenda for the Tidewater Virginia area on Friday.

Today there is a 40% chance of rain with winds picking up later tonight to over 20 MPH.

It will be a close call for Virginia with Hurricane Earl.

Yeah, that cold front BASSclary was talking about is nearing Michigan.  They are now forecasting it to turn into a semi-stationary front that will sit over us for a couple of days.

I don't think the front it is strong or fast enough to push Earl out to sea.   :-?

Since I was born in 1951, 21 hurricanes have hit the Louisiana Gulf Coast, 1 Cat 5 (Camille the second strongest U.S. land falling hurricane in recorded history), 1 Cat 4s (Audrey), 6 Cat 3s, 4 Cat 2s, 9 Cat 1s.

We were directly hit by 10 of those including Audrey (rode it out) & Rita (Cat 3), so here are some words of wisdom: if in the direct path of a Category 3 or above evacuate!

No one knows what these storms will do in the last hours before landfall, take some advice from someone who has rode out many hurricanes-GET PREPARED-NOW! if you live anywhere near the Coast-GET OUT- seek shelter inland. You will be without power,gas,water etc. Better to be safe than sorry. Our prayers are with you........Mike 8-)
