Today I went to the river to fish some grubs and a lead head. After I moved down the river a little I noticed there was ice on the river. Well I guess fishing is over for me this year.

ICE = water in solid form used to keep yer beers penguin butt cold in the cooler while you enjoy feeshin in 110° weather.

WHEN I LET THE DOG OUT THIS MORNING I NOTICED A THIN LAYER OF ICE ON MY CANAL.

IS IT APRIL YET?

Use a heavier jig to break the ice......when it takes a chevy to break the ice stop fishing and head home for the warmth....don't forget to call the insurance company regarding the chevy.... ;D

ice isn't a problem in NE.  frozen ponds and lakes bring out the ice fishermen. Get your chain saw cut your hole drop your line in and don't worry about the cold we just build a fire on the ice. I see just as many ppl ice fishing in DEC to FEB as i do all year round.

I never got into ice fishing and never will. I just don't under stand sitting on a forzen lake all day. I would rather go throught all my tackle this winter.

This winter, I vowed to give ice fishing a shot. I am gonna get set ip with some entry level stuff and see if I like it. What am I gonna do browse this site all winter

If I move below the mason dixon line I don't think I could surive the summer. I don't even like the 80 degree summers up here in wisconsin. So it looks like i will have to deal with it.

I have some great memories of ice fishing in the catskill region of NY. You really need a fishing buddy when ice fishing

You bundle up and drive this place with no tire tracks. Just virgin snow. Walk out on the ice and use an auger to dig a bunch of holes. bait the hooks, set the popups then sit on something with an orange deer hunting butt warmer. and jig a hole with a little rapala jigging spoon. then break out the Irish coffee, the binoculars for seeing deer, coyote, owls, and whatever.

Then Pow. all the flags just popping up at once, you get a bite on your line and it's 10 minutes of three stooges anctics.

then it all calms down. Untill........................... or

The only ice I see this time of year is on the puddles when I am hunting. Although, the fishing equipment hasnt been stowed away just yet...supposed to be around 60 toward the end of the week.

I don't get this ice fishing thingy: I checked every bit of ice in the freezer - not one fish to be seen.

I love bass fishing in Winter, because in Florida it's so easy to put holes in the ice 8-)

Well I dont know what kind of luck you guys had this weekend but for me it was not much. I am honestly thinking I am probably going to head out 1 or 2 more times this season and then winterize my boat. I had to break thru Ice at the ramp this weekend with the water temp being in the 32°F range at the ramp, out on the main lake it was 42°F. We didnt get any fish, which was disappointing. I tried some seasonal tactics and didnt get touched I dont know if the recent cold spell that set in is the cause or if I was just fishing too fast. Dead sticking soft plastics and some blade baits. Any Ideas?
