I was wondering what are some of the best baits anybody has used on a windy day, I'm talkin 30 mph, one time I went fishin and the wind was straight out of the south I used a shallow crankbait and tore them up and then the next day same thing, no fish so I'm wondering some of the baits people have used to catch fish on a windy day.

Depending on water temp and where the fish are in the water column - I like lipless cranks in the wind. Just as much for "castability" as for "catchability". In the event that I have to cast directly into a strong wind, I usually have an M or MH spinning rod ready to take over from the BC rod. Another thing I'll try in the wind (depending on wave height) is a buzzbait of all things - doesn't matter what time of day. Sometimes the fish come up in the water column when there's a surface wind and I'll have some luck with the buzzer.

it's going to be about 90 and has been at least 80 for the past week and a half so the water is warm, so buzzbait should work and I absolutely love lipless cranks! thanks

I'll give another vote for the lipless crank and suggest you throw a spinnerbait into the mix also. Like you said a crankbait can be a great option also.

My favorite is a swim jig or a spinner bait, but I prefer the swim jig. 5/16 to 3/8oz, I prefer white but use whatever your most comfortable with.

When it's windy, I like to use a 3/4 oz spinnerbait.

When the wind starts blowing a spinnerbait is tough to beat in my opinion. Throw them right up into the cover and don't be afraid to lose one every once in a while. Good luck keeping the boat in the water.

A spinnerbait is a good choice, but for me, the drop shot has been working great. It seems every day I have a chance to get out, it's windy, and the drop shot comes through with good fish every time.

Both. Depends on the size of the buzzbait, whether I'm fishing from the bank or the boat, and what direction the wind is coming from. If I gotta go directly into the wind, I'll use spinning and a side-arm roll cast to keep the bait low to the water to minimize the wind effect. I've got a 7'6" m-xf spinning rod that I particulary like in this case.

A heavy jig or spinnerbait. I fish the side of the lake where the wind is hitting. I like to throw the bait right where the water is hitting the shore and drag it back into the water. Looks like something that got washed into the lake.

Spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, shallow cranks, buzzbaits, chatterbaits or any other bait that makes a lot of commotion or that shows some flash. I used a Strike King 2.5 silent crankbait, a rat'l'trap, and a spinnerbait on Saturday in a very strong wind. All were catching fish but the Strike King crank was king for the day. Action was fast and furious casting to the leeward bank. The fish were stacked up.

30 mph wind is a high wind an generally unsafe on big flatland or hill-land lakes, unless you are fishing wind protected areas.

It's more than likely the bass are pre-spawn or early spawn in your nick of the woods, so main lake areas may not be a good choice anyway.

Wind creates current and adds DO, but cools the water temps and that isn't good during this seasonal period, stable warm weather is good.

Really doesn't matter what you are casting as long as you are confident using it.

Carolina or Texas rigged soft plastics and jigs are a good choice. Deep diving crank baits, chatterbait, jerk baits, swimbaits and spinnerbaits all work OK in the wind. Light wind or breeze with slight wind chop is OK for top water lures like buzzers and prop baits.

I like the chatter bait for a windy and murky water conditions and lip less cranks for windy and clear water.

I get pretty good results with the Megabass Vision jerkbait on really windy days, working it across main lake points, shallow to deep.

I do well with a storm rattlin' chug bug, just working it really fast across the surface.
