  1. Also Herons and any other wading birds can and do transport fish eggs on their legs to other bodies of water. Crappie eggs are very sticky and get moved around all the time by birds.
  2. Almost every one of my two or three dozen jerkbaits have been modified one way or the other. I usually add a split ring or two, go up or down a hook size, or even switch to a heavier or lighter wire hook on rare occasions. They need to be adjusted often depending on the water temp or what the bass like. I've found that a jerkbait that suspends or very slowly sinks works best for me.
  3. St Patricks day is when I start looking for beds. It may not happen till a week or two after that but I usually find a few males making beds on that day.
  4. That looks like an Alabama Deer and a dandy at that. Congrats man. That's awesome for a WMA.
  5. I rarely punch with a jig. Like Big-O I usually go with a pegged soft plastic. But the Hack-Attack would be a great choice for it.
  6. The first lure and technique that comes to mind is a suspending jerkbait. My favorite color jerkbait in off colored water is clown. Cast it and and crank it down and give it a couple of jerks and then let it sit there for several seconds. Give it a couple more jerks and let it sit for a several more seconds. Be sure to count the seconds and remember how long you let it sit when a bass bites. That usually is part of the pattern when it comes to jerkbaits.
  7. The shorter the skirt the faster it flairs. I would never do it with a standard silicon skirt due to it's short length. That's why I make my own. My skirts are very long.
  8. I agree 100% with this one. The Picasso is my go to shakyhead.
  9. Mine would have to be dead sticking a jig. Just cast out to a target, let it sink to the bottom and then let it sit until it gets bit. It works best with jigs that have long living rubber skirts.
  10. The problem I see with a suit that floats is that in the rare chance that you do fall in your legs float. This will make it harder to swim back to your boat and get back in. I would recommend a good GorTex suit like Frabill's FXE Stormsuit. Then wear your SOS 100% of the time. Connect your kill switch when the motor is running and keep a dry bag in your boat that has a towel, an extra change of fleece lined clothes, a stocking hat, two emergency space blankets, several packs of hand warmers, and a lighter to start a fire. This little bag will save your life.
  11. I have several different custom colors poured each year. The best guy that I've found is a guy by the name of Lee Hillman. He can do any color you want and his plastic is great quality. You can find him on facebook under Nasty Baits. He is also the only tournament angler that I know of who has the BR logo in his boat wrap.
  12. That's what I worked on this last year and it was much easier than I thought it would be.
  13. If you've watched any of the Tourny coverage on Clarks Hill you know that we throw spooks and sammys from April thru November. I have two dedicated setups for this. For the Spook Jr I use a Dobyns 702C with a Revo 7.1 reel with 10lb Izorline XXX. This setup casts a country mile and is perfect for chasing schooling fish. For my large Spooks and Pencil Poppers I use a Dobyns 733C with a Revo 7.1 reel with 15lb Izorline XXX.
  14. That's probably where I'll stay. Thanks
  15. Guys, Ryan is a good friend of mine and one of the guides I work with at Kingfisher. If you could help him out it would be great. I still can't believe they are going to make the North Carolina Schools drive that far. That just sucks.
  16. I'm going to be there if I don't have any guiding jobs. I can't afford to make reservations and then cancel them so I'll need to find a campground close by.
  17. Wow!!!!! That's and outstanding Elk. I'm so jealous.
  18. I don't do anything special but everybody loves my jerky. 1. Low sodium Dale's Stake Sauce is what I use when I slice my jerky. 2. When I grind it and put it in the Jerky Shooter I really like the seasoning packets you find in the Sporting Goods section of Wal Mart. The Original flavor is the best. The trick is don't over dry it. Take it out of the dryer or oven a little earlier than you think. It will finish as it cools down.
  19. A 5.5lb female on the "controlled" lake that I fish on will be pushing 7lbs just before she spawns.
  20. Because a bass doesn't live 50 or 60 years. Only 12 to 15 at best. I guess Grandpa isn't teaching the children what lures to avoid.
  21. Direct from the horse's mouth. lol
  22. It's a little like Sinclair the fish are just bigger. Be prepaired to fish both clear and/or stained to muddy water. If your boater fishes the Oconee River Arm it will have some color. If he fishes the Richland Creek Arm it will be clear water.
  23. They don't make the best ones I have found. The were made by Tru Tungsten and were poorly marketed. They called the the Finesse Carolina Weight. They are a long narrow bullet type weight. They rarely ever get hung up.
  24. I just made some phone calls and have a pretty good report. Tie on: a 1/4oz Blue/Chrome or Black/Chrome Lipless crank. 1/2 oz Black Jig with Blue Sapphire Rage Tail Chunk or Rage Craw. Get it as far under the shallow parts of the docks as you can and hang on tight. (Better use Braid for this) Black Trick Worm on a shaky head. (my #1 Oconee Bait) 3/8oz Oh Nelle Spinnerbait - Chart/White with Chrome #4 Willow for the main blade and a small gold Colorado blade for the front blade. The fish are very shallow in the back of creeks and pockets but you are at the mercy of the Angler so hit every target and make as many cast as you can. Oh, Oconee bass love JJ's Magic.
  25. I grew up fishing this lake. It's still one of my favorites but I haven't been up there in months. What do you want to know?
