  1. I have some Penn Senators and some Ted Williams rods and reels that are probably around 30-35 years old.
  2. The problem is exactly what Reelmech said it was. The spool bearing is sticking in its sleeve. I just opened both of my STXs and both of my SXs and that is exactly what is going on. It is NOT a problem - the tolerances are tight. They are supposed to be. Here is the sleeve Reelmech was talking about... The reason you get some in and out play is because that bearing slides back and forth on the shaft a little bit (again, it's supposed to). Grasp the spool shaft and pull firmly while giving it a good jiggle. Before you put it back in, take a q-tip and LIGHTLY swab the inside of that shaft with a little reel oil. (Ironically, if that sleeve was too loose, you've have bigger problems.)
  3. I'm not talking about a personal friendships or relationships that develope between board members.
  4. Some do. But this site could use more of that. Because, frankly, I think it's lacking somewhat. Lot's of great fisherman on this site. I'm not one of them, but I'm competent, and I do know my heiny from a hole in the ground. And I've been fishing, successfully, far longer than I've been posting here. There is a definite clique on this board. I've learned to tolerate it. I've even engaged it once or twice. But there is a feeling this site is the personal playground of a select group of members and every one else is a little less than just guests whose opinions hold less value. Very few people personally know others on this board. I know there are some exceptions. But for the most part, we don't know each other personally. No one here knows anything about me except what I have decided to reveal on this board. No one knows where I've been, what I've done, my experiences, or my areas of expertise. That goes for most of us. Assuming we are the ultimate source of information on a subject is a quick way to learn a lesson in humility.
  5. Stren Sinking Braid sucks. I tried some last spring on a light and a medium spinning outfit. To me, Stren Sinking Braid is even more limp than, say, Stren Super Braid. It knotted terribly no matter how much line was on the spool (very different than when I tried Super Braid). On top of that, it looked highly visible in the water to me, and it DIDN'T SINK - no more so that regular braid. I hated it and took it off my reels. I had three unused spools and ended up donating it with other equipment to some crappie guys on another board. AFAIK, they hated it, too. The stuff I stripped off my reels I used to stitch up a lawn tarp. That's it's real value.
  6. Since cranking reels have already been suggested, I figured I'd throw in another viable alternative.
  7. Good looking reel. Please let us know what you think of it. BTW, the oil looks like Shimano oil. Not the short little fat Abu oil that I've always gotten.
  8. Every year we have a run of Gizzard Shad into our tidal creeks. I've seen fish evey bit of a foot long. They come by the thousands, hundred of thousands, and die in the fish ladders in such numbers they have to be shoveled out. They croak by the hundreds and I see them floundering at the surface barely alive. There is only one thing I've ever seen prey on them:
  9. Just curious, whats the difference between a Fuji aluminum oxide guide on a $50 rod and one on a $150 rod?
  10. Check out Avet. http://www.avetreels.com/products.html
  11. Dude, I love the whole state. I wouldn't live anywhere else. I caught my first trout in the Jackson River below Lake Moomaw, and I've caught tuna and wahoo at the Norfolk Canyon. I've hiked at Mount Rogers and Appomattox. Hunted snakes in the Dismal Swamp. Got a sister and grandparents buried at Arlington. Got a road and a creek named after my great, great, great, great grandfather in Halifax County. I ain't never leaving. I love this state
  12. Oh, come on Burley. Williamsburg is great. A couple of my favorite lakes are near Williamsburg. Of course we don't have dueling banjos like in Coeburn, but we do have teeth. Seriously, though. It used to be that a somewhat large percentage of William and Mary's student body was gay or lesbian. When I went through ROTC, my university's program was an extension of William and Mary's program, so I spent some time with them, in classroom settings and in the field. Some of the cadets were gay. Frankly, I had no problems with any of them and many of them were top cadets in the program and have gone on to very successful Army careers. I'm confident many of them would frown on the "in-your-face" art exhibitions that get so much press.
  13. I like Petty. I can remember his music in context. I remember when I was dating my wife cruising down to the Outer Banks in my Thunderbird listening to Runnin' Down A Dream. Great music, great weekend... TP and the Heartbreakers have churned out some good tunes.
  14. I really like the XCalibur lipless cranks. I have a few Xr75s and they run great. I've even managed a few fish on them in the short time I've had them.

19 year old male. You are statistically the worst risk. You're gonna pay through the nose. I'm dreading when my kids turn 16. My rates will probably quadruple.
  16. I respect your opinion. Sexuality is inherent to music. But it shouldn't be inherent to the Super Bowl. I do have a problem with a planned "wardrobe malfunction" that exposes a nipple, or a backlit bedsheet shadow show that depicts ejaculation. There's no place for that in a Super Bowl halftime show that kids are watching. I know Prince and Janet Jackson's character. If I want that, I'll buy tickets to their show. I don't want it flushed into my living room and onto my kids. I will say I do like Prince's music. One of the best guitarists ever. Janet, however, just sucks.
  17. Now that would be a good trick!
  18. No need to be rude, Muddy. I know you don't like me. You've made that quite clear.
  19. You mean, "Cookin' With 'Bama Man?' Photo removed due to overt tastlessness.
  20. Would you have preferred more Janet or Prince? Last two years were nothing but filth. This year: good music, nice show, and no obscene overtures.

I have a wife, two kids, and 3 cars and pay less than half that amount per year. Just curious, how old are you? Young males get reemed.
  22. Tom Petty rocks! Glad he didn't have a nipple-slip.

Something sounds wacky. Retain your bills. BTW, 1000 posts!!!!
  24. My HBO just disappeared off my cable. I called to ask why and they told me they just went digital. I took my old boxes in and got digital boxes and came home and hooked them up. NO HBO. That's separate now. On top of that, I got all the old channels I had before, 3 more jewelry shopping channels, about half a dozen other channels I'll never watch, and a plethora of PPV porno channels. The digital boxes have been re-wrapped and are in the back of my car waiting to be returned tomorrow morning. I'll stick with basic cable.

They increased your yearly premium by $1,000? That's a lot. There must be a reason. That's not a normal cost increase.
