  1. Thanks. I only have a few painted and have done some with thread. I'm still waiting on some rubber skirt collars so I can change out the number of strands and figure out the spacing. It's hard to adjust the pieces when using thread, everything wants to slip everywhere. I'm in the process of building a fluid bed and am heading back to NY for the holidays. I'll finish up there, but 98% of my jigs are still raw lead. Hopefully, come January, I'll have everything set up and ready to go in one easy, fluid process. Cory
  2. I put the tabs on with thread, and then wired (26ga) over it. Going to do one of the bajillion easier ways to do it next time. 3/8 oz, waiting on a willow blade I hope the fish don't mind the green back black head too much edit: my take on a golden shiner
  3. Thanks for the tip Fluke.
  4. LBH, When the bluefish are running it's almost too easy!! Nice catch!
  5. FLuke, why are some of the rear treble hooks off. I bought a couple of the bronze eye frogs at the beginning of last summer, now I know why they are on sale everywhere. The paint scrapes off really easily, which isn't that big a deal to me. My biggest complaint is that the weight in the butt fell out on both of them and they started leaking to the point that I wasn't able to fish them. It might just be me being bitter, but I had just as many strikes and a little bit better hook up with the cheapy green snagproof. I never did get into walking the frog, but right now, the hardware is getting taken out and the rest is going in the trash. I'm going to look at bobby's, the snag proof tourney, and whatever else is recommended on this forum come next season.
  6. Over the summer I was fishing a Super Spook, the 5" one with three trebles, and was slamming bass. Too bad all of the bass were smaller than the bait itself.
  7. I really admire how you put together the pieces and found the fish.
  8. Money Minnows are supposed to be pretty close. I haven't seen either one in the flesh, just what I've heard...
  9. Maxke- Shore or boat?
  10. Scent was a hot topic not to long ago. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1192120855/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1192553328/9#9
  11. Poor boys silly rabbits and bunnies are a solid. What's "new" about the basstrix is that they are a tube style bait. It's the hollow section that is supposed to give this bait a unique action. basstrix still have the best paint schemes by far.
  12. With every hand pourer/ e-tackle shop scrambling to unlock the secrets of the basstrix paddletail tube, it was only a matter of time until the giants caught on. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98283_100007007_100000000_100007000_100-7-7 Although, I've never seen a baby bass look like that. Edit: I would like to take this time to thank Zephyr from Michigan for reviewing this product. He's still finding the green grass to slow roll this bait over......in December.....In Michigan. Right?
  13. If you want a professional opinion on scent regarding to bass, check your local library for Knowing Bass by Dr. Keith Jones. He was the head of fish and something research for Berkley. There is an in-depth chapter (with pictures ) on how bass smell and also their reaction to certain scents in a laboratory environment. "Bass are not the lovers of spicy-sweet foods that we are. When given cotton pellets or small pieces of sponges saturated with assorted flavors, bass readily eat the ones soaked in, say, a nightcrawler extract. However, sweet flavors are almost always spit out, often within a split second, while garlic and plain table salt fare only a little better. Interestingly, salt mixes that imitate the saline content found in natural prey appear much more palatable to bass than table salt." taken from table 3-8 page 57. on this table it has: worm extract ranked 100% sugar 3% garlic 2% anise 1% salt 3% Prey salt mix 3% I'm not saying that this stuff is gospel. Just some interesting (recent, 2002) material put out by a guy who has the degrees and some solid credentials.
  14. Me and my buds call em pigs or monsters
  15. Fish ONNNNNNNNN if I'm with my buds and we're keeping score
  16. People on the water that ask: caught a few on a green worm Friends: The good ones were hitting a weightless, t-rigged 6" green pumpkin w/ black flake senko on the north side of stony point.
  17. Lures that I'm asking for that I think would work well from shore: 1/4 cavitron chart./white....have to see why it gets so many thumbs up Mann's waker- ghost minnow and/or matte tiger....looks like a good entry to wakebaits in both size and cost Pre mentioned swim senkos
  18. In reference to Mattlures and lube. Vaseline/petroleum jelly is odorless and tasteless. Take a small amount and rub it all over the bait. This will help the lure squeeze out. You can add anise, salt, other scents to the jelly. Add a lot of salt if you are going to be adding any fish or crayfish parts. This keeps the stuff from rotting (thanks for that tip Matt!, whew!). Good Luck
  19. I have a 2001 Forester and I get 25 mpg on average (I keep a log). 165 hp 166 ft/lb torque. A little better than the CRV or RAV4. I was also looking at a CRV and a Rav4. After reading the reviews and doing the test drives, the forester was the quieter and smoother ride. You actually go somewhere when you step on the peddle too (the rav4 just makes more noise). The back seat is tight for an adult. If you have kids that are getting bigger, the CRV is much more comfortable in the back. The gas mileage won't be what you're looking for though. I don't know if you have bad winter weather, but it's nice in that too. It does fine towing my 16ft alum. An old farm truck might be nice if you put in at less than desirable boat ramps where you need higher ground clearance. If you're interested in one, look for a type S, it's a noticeably nicer ride than the L. Looks like I'm up to 4 cents now. Cory
  20. I'll give that a try.
  21. PS. This is an awesome series of threads. Thanks from all the noobs just getting started.
