Underrated lures
I too use a curly tailed grub but I pair it with a 1/4 ounce roadrunner head. I use both white and chartruese heads and grubs. Great bait.

Underrated lures
I don't know about underrated everywhere, but around here I am the only person I have seen for the last couple years throwing a jitterbug. I catch fish on it almost every day i go fishing, usually 2-4 fish. I have not seen another angler throwing a jitterbug. I have even had a few comment on my throwing it as they go trolling by; things like, " wow, I haven't seen anyone use a jitterbug for along time" I just smile and wave.

My advice on first baitcaster.
My first baitcaster was a Shakespeare dimension plus graphite framed 10 bearing reel that I purchased with a cabelas tourney trail rod. Price for the combo was 49.00 on sale. I used that set for about two years. I liked it so much, I bought another combo that same summer. To this day I think that is a fine reel. Once I learned how to use it I I had ZERO problems with it. I sold both of them to a person on another site and he could not believe how nice those reels were. The "best" , kinda like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder, or end user.

fishing kayaks
Thanks JKay. I am kinda a wide fishing barge myself, so maybe thats a good fit. ;D I am looking, reading, talking to folks, looking at the forums on kayak fishing sites. Just kinda getting a feeling for what might work for me. Thanks for adding your advice.

Baitcaster - Am I missing out?
I too use both. I really like the versatility I have when I can use either one and have both when needed. I shore fish as well and usually carry 4 rods with me, 3 baitcasting and 1 spinning. I tend to use the spinning for the more finesse presentations(mostly weightless plastics or very light weight presentations) and baitcasters for everything else. As was suggested earlier, get a better reel to start with, if you don't like it, you can recoup most of your money right here in the flea market.

Few fish photos

fishing kayaks
Things going well. I am a "value" shopper, and know I am at probably about a year from purchase.Just starting my research. Certainly like the new hobie pro angler. The drive system is intriguing, but price may be an issue. I like the ocean kayak prowler big game as well. Stability is a concern, as I am 5 ft 8 inches tall and currently tip the scales at about 240 or so. I have a terrible left knee that will not take me to my 55th birthday, according to my doctor. he hoped that I would make it to 45 so I guess I am now a medical marvel ;D ;D. Standing from a SOT would most likely be improbable. I can pedal a bike ok for a couple days, then I have problems with swelling, so that counts against the hobie mirage drive kayaks. As can be seen, I have lots of different things to consider, at least till I get this knee replaced. I do want to thank all the folks who contributed with knowledge or pictures. I am keeping my eyes on Craigslist and such for used kayaks, but so far nothing has caught my eye.

How much does your "live" bait cost now?
Not sure what actual price for minnows is, but when I take my daughter or nephew(only time I use live bait) in local bait shop, the owner puts more minnows in the bucket than we can use for 2.00. He is a good dude.

fishing kayaks
For those of you who fish from kayaks, would you mind posting some detailed photos of your rigs. I am interested in how you store your gear, how you mount your fishfinders, where you keep your batter, etc. Pics from cockpit to front and back and some from the side would help. I have been to some of the websites and looked at their pics, but I know how smart and resourceful you guys are, so I wanted to see how you guys have em rigged. Thanks to all.

Not to worry today. The only Fish I caught was about 6 long...on a four inch bait. Got to love that never say can't attitude though. I had no problems getting that little guy back into the water right away.

How long can bass live out of water???
Muddy, I have not tried the product you spoke of, but I also wet my left hand before I land a fish. I love catching them, but certainly don't want to harm them while getting them back into the water. Thanks for all responses.

How long can bass live out of water???
I have caught a few nice fish over the past couple weekends. I have recently purchased a digital scale. How long do I have to get the fish unhooked, weighed, and then put back in the water? I have been hesitant to use the scale because I don't want to harm the fish. I fish from the bank, so a livewell is not an option. Thanks for the help.

Just one more cast...well maybe one more...okay just one more.
One more cast...sounds like a good theme for life. Great story and awesome fish. That's the great thing about fishing, every cast could be a new personal best.

Wierd Anglers
One of the lakes I fish has an old stone fort. they have a dock there for the boaters who want to see the fort. The fort is only open from like 1pm to 5pm. I go there in the mornings and fish around the floating dock. One day a pontoon boat with four guys...four guys in short, cut-off jeans shorts, guys who really like the company of other guys, pulls up so they can visit the restroom by the fort. After they hit the restroom, they come back down and one of them, the more flamboyant of the group, starts fishing with his spinning reel upside down. As they were pulling away, I hear one of the other guys say to mr. flamboyant, " work it johnny, work it. I guess because as he was cranking his upside down spinning reel, he was also wiggling his rear from side to side. I laughed out loud then and am still laughing. So next time you see mr upside down reel man, think to yourself, Work it johnny, work it. ;D ;D

My lil Princess's first LMB
awesome shot. That fish looks huge. One day, she can show it to her fishing buddies and tell them, "you can see how big it is, I was only 3 feet tall back then!" Great job getting her involved. Great memory for you and her. Congrats.

OUTSTANDING. Plano customer service
They have a customer for life with me. Plus, word of mouth advertising is still the king.
