Ikes ganna be an abu guy!!
No. Not what, but HOW is important to me for learning purposes. For example, if I watch on TV. how some pro is fishing a fluke, lipless crankbait, etc. I will make a note of type of equipment, line specs, reel ratio, etc. I could care less what brand it is. I myself am a big Cabelas baitcaster fan. I am waiting for them to sign me up ;D

TCU v. Boise St.
Boise and TCU had good years. TCU beat good BYU and Utah teams. I think both TCU and Boise are top ten teams this year. I would like to see Boise and TCU in a major conference as well. The mountain west is supposedly on the rise, but I don't think one bowl game makes a conference. I think they both have an advantage in not playing against pac-10, big ten, sec, or big 12 schools week in week out. Could either team win one game against almost any other program??? Yes, and they have done it. I think it would have been more telling to have one of the schools play Florida, and the other one to play G.Tech, Iowa or another school from a major conference. They beat up on each other the last two years, which does not let the fans see where they stand against the big boys. I remember what happened the last time Boise ventured out of conference and visited Georgia. They took a severe and thorough butt whippin. But then they also beat Oklahoma in Fiesta bowl.

Anyone who wants to bash BSU schedule
To further Catt's point, take a look at the schools that even have winning records? who did they beat? I think Boise can play with anyone for one game. The national championship teams from Florida, Alabama, LSU have shown the ability to beat every team, or nearly every team on their schedule in the best conference in the country. I would like to see what happens to the teams from TCU, Boise, and the like if they played a pac ten, big ten, big 12, or SEC schedule of games. That being said, Boise and TCU put on a hell of defensive show last night.

Staying warm for cold weather bassin.
To expand a little, Your body will generate enough heat to keep you warm, provided you don't let the wind steal it. If you can keep your core warm, it is much easier to keep feet and hands warm. The first thing that happens when we get cold is our bodies "sacrifice" the appendages to make sure our vital organs stay warm. Keep the core warm, and it is much easier to keep hands and feet warm. Chemical heat packs help a bunch. Several layers will keep you warmer than one big heavy parka. Reason, the layers trap heat between them.

Staying warm for cold weather bassin.
Bottom layer must be wicking...no cotton. Under armour is good, smartwool is better IMO. Middle layers need to be either wool or fleece, something that traps air. Most importantly, outer layer MUST be at least windproof, better if waterproof. (if its waterproof, then it is windproof as well). Make sure to eat and drink as day goes on, provides fuel for producing heat. Lastly, keep your head covered with a good cap, fleece or wool. Windproof is good here as well.

lsu fan NERVOUS WRECK.
Being an Ohio State fan, and thus a big ten fan, I am glad Penn State won. I have to give LSU a lot of credit though, they fought back in a game where it would have been easy to cash it in. Lots of mistakes, too many penalties for LSU. Lots of dropped passes as well.

lansky knife sharpening system
some people seem to have the knack for keeping the proper angle on knife when sharpening. That is the key.I myself am either too uncoordinated or too stupid, or both. I therefore bought the Lansky and later a gatco. I like the gatco system much better and can sharpen a knife now that is scary sharp.

BPS reel trade in program?
Not sure about the numbers exactly, but it goes like this no matter what reel you trade in: If new reel cost is rebate is 100 to 149.99 20.00 150 to 199.99 30.00 200 to 249.99 40.00 250.00 and above 50.00 again, not sure about price ranges or rebate amounts, but rebate is based on cost of new reel purchased, not what reel is traded in.

weedless soft swimbait?
I have not personally tried it, but I saw on In-fisherman where they rig their swimbaits with an owner bullet-nose jig head in weights from 1/2 to 3/4 ounces. The reason for this was to be able to fish them deep. The hook is exposed though, so it may not work coming thru the grass.

Red Eye Shad
I usually start out with burning it, then a moderate retrieve, then i start and stop it,and finally, if nothing else has worked, I yo-yo it. I normally catch fish with this bait either burning it or moderately retrieving it. one of my favorites.

MIKE HOLMGREN.
I am a cowboys fan first and foremost. However, living in Ohio most of my life I root for the browns as well. I am not sold on Holmgren. Ron Wolf built the team in Green Bay. Wolf, not Holmgren, did the drafting, trading, and free agent signings. Holmgren coached the team. Look at his years in Seattle when he was coach and GM??? He had more success when he was just the coach. He will not coach in Cleveland, and that seems to be his strongest area. I am not a Mangini fan either. But as a fan, you have to look at the way he has the team playing now, even though they have had several key players go down to injury. The Browns are playing much harder now than they did early in the year which says these players have bought into his system. Whatever the team decides to do, I wish they would give the next pres, gm, and coach at least five years to build and draft and acquire the types of players needed for that particular system. Holmgren is a 4-3 defensive guy, and the browns have spent the last 5 years or so trying to build a 3-4 defense with 3-4 types of players...albeit not very successfully. Hire with a plan, and allow the person(s) hired time and resources to execute that plan. I have heard thru various sources that cleveland is offering a 10 year contract to holmgren. They will already be paying Savage, Crennel, Kokinis, and possibly Mangini for the next 3-5 years. Ten years is a long time. Hopefully it works out. I would like to see the browns at least competitive in their division and the AFC again. Last thing, they need to pay Cribbs.

Where Are All The Cowboy Fans?
Actually, there are 32 teams in the NFL. Pittsburgh has more rings, and you can't count Dallas. So, Dallas has done better in January than 30 other teams. Just not lately...like for the last 14 years and counting.

Warm Feet
As others have said, you must have a complete system. Start with light wicking liner sock (thermax), follow with a thick wool sock...smartwool makes good socks...higher wool content the better. Finish with a good pak style boot that is big, at least one size bigger than normal. Mickey mouse boots are exceptional if you can find them. Lastly, if your feet still get cold, there are two products that can help. first is made by arctic shield and they called boot covers. They are fairly thin and reflect and retain most of your body heat. You can also place a hand warmer inside across the top of your foot ...be careful your feet don't sweat. If none of that works, try a pair of boot blankets by Icebreaker. They are bulky, but they work. I can sit on a treestand all day with these rascals on and have toasty warm feet.

skirt making kits
Thanks for the replies. Is anyone using these products? Which might be best for spinnerbaits and/or swimming jigs? Thanks again.

skirt making kits
Thinking about getting a kit to start making my own skirts. I mostly fish spinnerbaits, cranks, and swim jigs. I do drag a football head jig as well, but not as much. Can anyone give me some directions on what might be out there. Thanks

Best college football player ever
Are you contending that because Rice was an excellent pro, hence the reference to Manning and Brees, helps his record as a college player? I thought we were only talking college and I think they are two different entities. Lots of great college players never made it big in the nfl. Let me pose this question to you. What about Tony Mandarich? He destroyed people while at Michigan State. Was likely the best college football player in college for two years. Completely overwhelmed his opponents.. Does he get ranked lower because he doesn't have any records? My point is that it is impossible to say because you can never compare apples to apples.

Best college football player ever
Catt, using your logic wouldn't you then also have to include Steve McNair??? And if you include McNair, what about Nate Kmic? If you have never heard of him he played for Division III Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. He is college football's only 8,000 yard rusher and played for 3 national championship teams ( and played in a fourth but Mount Union lost) . He also is college football's all time single season leading rusher. The point I am making is it is so hard to judge players from different time periods and playing different positions in different levels of competition. Jerry Rice was outstanding in I-AA, but we justify that because he was the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. Too hard to make this anything but a popularity contest basically. I still love to discuss it though. Herschel Walker was a stud, as was some running QB back in the 60's named Roger Staubach. I also think Tony Dorsett was right up there.

Where Are All The Cowboy Fans?
We had 12 draft picks this year. If you factor in your man Jerry Jones mortgaging the future (your term) with the Roy Williams trade, we had alot to trade with. Instead, we got a mediocre number 2 receiver to go along with a kickoff specialist...at least at this point. I never said the trades had to be in this draft. There is always a team in "love" with a player who is willing to trade. Unfortunately, too many times that has been dallas...See Joey Galloway and Roy Williams. With the rosy colored glasses comment..at least i made them a very expensive brand. ;D

Where Are All The Cowboy Fans?
Matt, let me clarify my point about the draft class. My take is the cowboys would have been better off trading up or trading for picks next year than wasting picks on players that have little or no chance to start within next two years or even make the team. We drafted 12 players and 4 made our team. Ok, five counting the kicker. I would have rather seen us get 2 players who have the potential to be stars than 4 guys who can play special teams. Those guys are available in every draft.

Where Are All The Cowboy Fans?
Matt, I think you must be looking at the cowboys through rose colored Costa del Mars ;D ;D. I am a huge cowboy fan. I am also a huge football fan. You mentioned the draft this year. Which of the Cinncinnati ballhawks have helped us on special teams???? Smith and Mickens did not make the team. How many of the drafted players are on the team currently? (Five counting the kickoff specialist) The guard from ball state is a project according to Wade Phillips himself. You are defending Jones by further illustrating my points. I did not say we needed to trade players, only draft picks to get some guys who can play. Look around the league at the best teams? Start with Pittsburgh. Down year this year, but they are usually very good. They draft well and they develop their players. They draft people who they believe will START for them, maybe not this year, but certainly within the next two or three years. Which of our draft picks, aside from the kickoff specialist, is going to start for us? Other than Williams, a project d-lineman converting to linebacker by the way, none of the players they took are special. None are difference makers. They are role players, special teamers, and you can not win consistently in the nfl without many good players mixed in with some great ones. As I am typing this I realize that we are probably going to have to agree to disagree. I agree about the injuries and penalties, but taking your point further, what can be done about the penalities when you have no depth because you draft poorly. You can't sit someone because there is no player to replace them with. I also agree the draft class will not be judged completely for a few years, but already has the looks of a complete failure. All that being said, with great power comes great responsibility. And that responsibility rests solely with Jerry Jones. Look over the last twenty years. The cowboys have been upper echelon of the league two times during this time period. When was that? When Jimmy Johnson was in charge of team and players and the year after parcells left with the team HE re-tooled. Look at the time periods in between and there is no one else to blame but Jerry. He hired Barry Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo and he ran the draft room. He is the person who said in "96 the 'boys were so loaded that they just needed to draft for depth. How did that work out? Finally, I agree about Shanahan being an outstanding coach, especially offensively. He would help us immediately. However, I think Shanahan is a marginal talent evaluator at best. Look at his teams in Denver. They were poor defensively and were lackign talent and depth overall, especially towards the end of his stay there.

Where Are All The Cowboy Fans?
Being a dallas cowboy fan since I was 6, I have to jump in here. The problem with the cowboys is not Wade Phillips. It is the man who hired him, and who insists on keeping him around. Jerry Jones is an outstanding businessman. He played on the Arkansas football team that won a national championship in 1964? i believe. That does not make him a "football man" or a GM. Money makes him that. He had 12 draft picks this past draft. The cowboys lack explosiveness on both sides of the ball. With 12 draft picks, he should have traded, moved up in the draft, whatever it took to get some players who are, will be, starters who have the potential to be great players. Instead, he drafted a kickoff specialist. That is the only player from this draft who can and is helping the cowboys. He drafted three defensive ends to convert to outside linebacker where he has Ware and Spencer already. If you fans and haters alike will remember, starting in 1996, Jones felt the cowboys were so loaded with talent that he started drafting for special teams and depth, and subsequently the team went farther and farther down hill. The only smart thing I have ever heard come out of Barry Switzers mouth was " The team with the most "best"players usually wins. We are seeing the same thing right now. The cowboys were not competitive until Parcells came in and rebuilt the roster. He has been gone for what, 3 years now. Look at the 13-3 team, and look at the cowboys now. The cowboys will continue to fall until Jones once again realizes that he needs help (read someone who can do the gm job) and hires Polian, Wolf, or someone to draft well, spend wisely in free agency, and finally find a real coach. Until that happens, we cowboys fans are destined to watch a team with mediocre talent and mediocre results.
