Crankbait question
I think basic size/shape is more important than color, rattle, or wobble...

Spool tension knob on cheap baitcasters?
That's the reason it has a low price. Junk. A spinning reel would be a better choice if you can only spend $50 on a reel. Better off saving longer for a nicer baitcast reel than buying junk. Just sayin'.....

More uses for my moderate rod than just cranks?

Glitter in soft plastics
The only solid color plastics that ever catch fish for me iis white or dark grape. All other plastics I own have some type of glitter (or flake) I think it makes them look more natural. Not much in life is one color....

Why on earth would anyone spend $400 on a bass rod?
To each his own. I fish with rods and reels that would be considered mid-range to lower in price. I would like to fish with a $400 rig, but it will never happen. And I am fine with that.

Nail weights: tungsten or nails or screws?
Use screws..they stay in better and you can buy 50 of them for 1.59.....

What makes the best spinnerbaits transmit vibration/feel?
I don't consider a spinnerbait a "feel" bait. I could care less if it vibrates hard or not at all. The bass don't care either. In the clear waters I fish, speed and flash are more important. And no, I don't bother slow-rolling a spinnerbait. I don't want fish looking too close at my bait. Much better bait choices than slow - rolling a spinnerbait. (works for me)....

Open cleats are a fishing rod trap
I'm sorry.. if it's freezing up, i'm outta there. ( I don't fish tourneys)

Original Bait-cast Reels Settle a Debate
I "almost" learned how to use a baitcaster in the mid 70's with a green Heddon Mark iv. Quit using it and traded it for a Zebco Cardinal 4 spinning reel.

New Boat Company announment Friday
My 16' 1996 Grumman deep v with 50 hp evinrude cost $8800. Comparable 2017 rigs cost twice that. Sadly, my income hasn't doubled since 1996, so there is no new boat in my future...

Funniest Fishing Stories
3 guys were trolling for musky on lk. st. clair all morning without a bite. They tried different sizes and styles of baits to no avail. Over by the shoreline they heard a lady yelling and looking like she was panicked. They motor over to see what was wrong and if they could help. She said her little dog was out swimming and she heard a big splash, she turned around, and the little dog was gone. One of the anglers asked the lady what color her dog was.

Dropshotting Question
It won't stand out on a slack line..the taughtness keeps it so. Plus, my d/s is always inching towards the boat (unless dropped in a hole in the weeds.

Old boats still purring
96 Grumman 16' deep v with a 50 hp evinrude. Spent over $2k on it this year on a new vr pump, impellor, power cables from switch to motor, rebuilt carbs, and a few other items. Had to give it a little love. I take it out 35 to 50 times a year. After 22 yrs., she still treats me pretty good.

Favorite Spinnerbaits?
I assemble my own. Double gold Colorado with great ball bearing costs about $3.50. I am cheap and I know what I want.

Gear Ratios
Even inches per turn is not a precise measurement. Ipt is less when you first start your retrieve after the cast then when you wind up the last few feet. But, it's more accurate than the gear ratio.

Any michigan guys here
Anyone going to the b.a.s.s. event this month @ lk. st. clair? I have never attended one but i.m going this year. After seeing the crowds in Waddington n.y., I think we can beat those d**n Yankees...

when to use a fluoro leader

Wear your glasses!
While visiting my grandparents in Kentucky many, many years ago I met their neighbor who lost his left eye while fishing his small pond. He got snagged on something, kept pulling..trying to break free. It did, and he said it sounded like a gunshot, and then it dislodged his eyeball. I don't know if his story was factual or not, but at 8 yrs. old, I believed him....

What happens if you use line that is not recommended for the reel
MB508: here in Michigan you will get fined for 1 rod. If 2 or more rods are rigged wrong, they may confiscate.

Which spinner blade configuration?
In the clear waters I fish my "burner" spinbait would be 1/2 or 3/4 oz, mostly white skirt, and 2 #3 gold willowleafs. The heavy head forces you to speed retrieve over the weeds, which ideally are 2 to 3 ft below the surface. If I want a smaller profile I use a 1/4 oz head with a 1/4 oz. hook weight on the shank. ( I"assemble" my own)

Mustad KVD clips
They look like they would work ok for jerkbaits and others with easily exposed line tie. Might be hard to do on most others. Unless you keep the split ring on, but then you're showing a lot of hardware. Try and see...
