  1. July 16, 2005 night tournament on Lake Nacogdoches. Black jitterbug produced five that weighed 24.89.
  2. Lunkerlure buzzbait is my favorite. If you check enough at the store you can find a few that will really squeak and I believe that makes a huge difference. Never fished the spinnerbait though. Guess I need to try them out.
  3. Now that surprises me.
  4. RW, you are right. funny how a lure can come out of the mold and catch a ton of fish and the next one won't. When I find one that is hot it goes in a seperate box for special occasions. They are true finds.
  5. I have decided to try my hand at painting up a few of my lures. Anyone care to throw out any cliff notes on the errors I am about to make? Thanks
  6. I like the Bagley balsa lures, the Lucky Craft LVR selection, and Bill Lewis rattle-trap. Traps are great for fishing grass, and the square lipped lures will deflect off cover well. For the deeper lures I like the Norman DD-22, and the Rapala DT-16 and DT-10 for fishing the points and drains that are not covered in grass.
  7. A Castiac(sic) swimbait that I paid 18.98 for back in 1991. Have never had a bite on it and it seems to show up every time I open one of my Plano boxes. Like it moves around during the night so I will see it and be reminded of how wasteful I was.
  8. I fish the Stanley most of the time . One thing I do before fishing them is to downsize the blades. I don't like the size that most manufacturers put on them. They are generally too large for my preference and are designed to look good in the package. Many times when I am fishing in the upper water column you need to have a fast moving lure that keeps the fish from seeing it for what it really is, a fake. With the larger blades it causes the lure to rise on a fast crank. The size of the bait will determine the size of my blades. Also, the smaller blades keep the lure from rising when I fish it deeper. In the clearer water I can crank it faster and I hope that gives the fish less of a chance to get a good look at the lure. Of course there are times(Muddy water) that I do not change them. I want the blades to push more water and this allows me to slow down the lure to allow the fish to locate it. I would prefer to fish two other brands(The Mr. Blitz, and the NO-NO) but I just cannot find them anymore. I liked the head design and wire configuration on them a lot better. If anyone would like to reccommend any in this area that are available I am open to suggestions.
  9. Exactly why I don't watch it anymore.
  10. Last time I went to Cancun I had a drink in the left and my right arm around a beautiful woman. Who could think about fishing?
  11. Who owns the land under the water and up to the high water mark? This is a landmark case being tried in the courts in Louisiana and plenty of other states. After four years it is still being debated and will have far reaching effects as to whether anyone has the choice to fish up to and including the high water mark, or whether a landowner actually owns the land out to the center of the waterway. Each time a decision is reached it is handed back to another court. No one has a clue where this issue will end.
  12. Giving away the locations and information of your day one boater's fish is grounds for immediate disqualification.
  13. Sad news, Prayers sent to all involved.
  14. There are a few women in this area that can flat out locate fish(Notice I did not say fish) and lay waste to a strong field of anglers. Most of us enjoy them being around and I wish there were more.
  15. 75* here this morning. Big changes coming this evening though. 32* by Wednesday morn. Hopefully we won't have another round of sleet and/or snow. Don't think any is predicted. We need the rain. Mid November was the last good rain we got. Heck we have had more snow (5 1/2") than rain(.097") since Thanksgiving.
  16. Dean and Aaron both come from the west coast. Might be a local growing up issue but I have never met either. ALL of the pros on the circuit I have met have seemed to be ok guys. Never had any showout while I was around so I cannot throw out any negative comments about them. When you are around as many people as much as they are I am sure some get the feeling that they have been slighted. It's a wonder that there is not more talk about their comments. You can't please everyone 100% of the time. Overall I think they do an excellent job with their public comments and actions. Gman on the other hand is in a class by himself. It's a wonder he does not have to physically defend himself at times from all the stuff he comes up with and the things out of his mouth. I like him and what he has done for the sport.
  17. I made the switch to a hand operated Minn-Kota years ago due to cable problems. Foot models could never be cheap enough to make me go back. Free ain't cheap enough either. Two things that will never be on my boat: Motorguide, or anything with a foot pedal.
  18. Now I am really confused. I came across an article last night from February 2008 in Bass and Walleye Boats written by Allan Tarvid (No idea who he is) that included an interview from Darrell Lowarance that stated the following: "Using the NMEA 2000 standard means any unit, sensor or other device built to that industry standard can be networked with another NMEA 2000 device, reguardless of the manufacturer or brand. Keep in mind, not all companies have adopted the NMEA 2000 standard." "NMEA 2000 networks allow multiple sonar/GPS units to use a single GPS antenna module with other sensors connected to the network. these could include temperature probes, paddlewheel speed sensors, and fuel-flow sensors." If anyone has tried to hook up seperate units from different manufacturers let me know. Otherwise I gusess I will try it just to see if I can keep from buying another unit. Thanks
  19. Replace the cable before it cost you a day on the water. Don't ask me how I know.
  20. We all know that these guys are not fishing and catching their fish with half the lures they say they are. Just putting money in their back pockets. Wonder how many that are sponsered by Lowrance have a Hummingbird unit mounted up under the dash of their shinny new boats? I'd like to see an unannounced tackle check on a lot of them at takeoff one morning. Then we would know what is really being fished with.
  21. Not realy. I stick with Zoom, Lucky Craft, Bill Lewis, Bagley, and Stanley products for 90% of my tackle. It's worked for me for many years. I will jump on certain colors until I feel like the fish have seen too much of them and then revert back to my old standard choices.
  22. Happen to me years ago on Rayburn. fishing a rogue. Had a two lb. hooked on the rear. As I got it to the boat a 4lb tried to take it away and I caught them both. Several times over the years I have caught two dinks on the same lure while fishing schoolies.
