If you want to learn, fine a junk reel and tear into it. That's how I did it years ago.

Beaching without a keel protector?
Whatever is on the bank. Be it sand, gravel, etc. there is no damage on my keel. Just use common sense and do not power beach it and you will be fine.

Sam you are dead on. Everything was either tucked back under something or 18-25'. Fishing an evening tournament tommorrow from 6-9 on Lake Ray Hubbard on N. E. side of Dallas. If it is like today it will still be 104+ at six when we start.

I am leaving this afternoon for a week of fishing in the Arlington/Ft. Worth area if you want to hook up. Will be staying at my daughter's home in Arlington. I have been on the lake many times and you are welcome to my back seat. I plan on fishing Grapevine, Joe Pool, Arlington, and Ray Hubbard this week if you care to tag along. I have not tried it. I'm very peticular about the line I use and will not change. I think i'll let someone else go down that road.

Cleaning the guides?
I clean my rod guides with a qtip and mild soap and water. Don't own any poles.

Two of them: Larry Nixon Tommy Martin There was a situation on a pier with two sisters Tommy and I met years ago over on Toledo Bend that influenced me also, but I dare not go there. LOL.

My fishing class
My freshwater license in Texas is $125.00 a year and the mininum requirements of liability must be current. think about it. It can be more than you might be willing to bite off. Even though I do not use my license I keep it current just in case. good luck.
