Uncomfortable lunch encounter today.
Touchy situation that you handled correctly. If the guy's not a personal friend who wishes to confide in you about the "situation", then best to stay out of it entirely, IMO. His "desert" may end up not being what he thought it would be in the end.

Looking for some spinning wisdom
The Pflueger Supreme is an AWESOME reel that will cast a "country mile" with the right rod and line. I'd recommend 6# Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft for those long casts.

looking for new rod/reel advice
Welcome to the BR Forums - the BEST bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. For $200 you could get a Pfluegher SUPREME spinning reel and a Diawa Light & Tough rod and the line of your choice. The President and your St. Croix is another fine combo too, IMO. I have the Supreme, President, and Trion Pfluegher reels and the Supreme is just what it's name implies. However, the President doesn't lag behind it much at all in smoothness and castability.

Need help on an anchor system for 12' jon
Go to Home Depot and get one of those hand held line holders. IF your anchor line/rope isn't too thick, that should do the trick. I think they also have a hand held one that you can actually wind/crank the line onto and it doesn't have to be permanently attached to your boat either. Hope that helps you out. You could also fabricate yourself something to wind the line onto for very little $$$s, IMO.

How to fish worms?
Simp: great story that only proves when worms are fished, fish are caught!

Pontoon boat
North Fork Outdoors. They are on sale right now for $325. Cabela's has them for $350. The H3 Freestyle is one of the best float tube/pontoon/kick-boat hybrids on the market, at least IMO and that of most others who have used them. You have to power the thing around with fins on your feet that dangle in the water but the seating for you is about 2" off the water from what I've read. 4 urethane bladders for added safety. Reg price on these range from $350 - $400. Can't wait to get mine. PS: waders are something I have to wear to fish the lakes/reservoirs in So CA but aren't necessarily manditory in all states/areas. IF there are dangerous beasties in the waters you fish, i.e. 'gators etc., then a regular boat that keeps you out of harms way is my recommendation.

Pontoon boat
From the general consensus of those who own and love their pontoon boats: NO the Cons do not outweigh the Pros for this type of craft. I would have to agree with that. There are some really NICE pontoons you can get for under $500 NEW, and if you are in the $500 - $1,000 buying range, there are MANY great boats available which have attributes that offset some of the Cons I mentioned in the other post (like being able to stand up in). Have you considered something like I bought - a float tube/pontoon hybrid that I call a kick boat??

Congratulations on the new boat!! Sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal too:o)

Deer farts
It was probably a Sasquatch that "stepped on a duck" and the deer were just acknowledging the fragrant aroma:o) Nice picture!

sooo...
Why sell it?? It looks like a perfect 1st boat for you, IMO. BTW: it is also a pretty nice looking and functional bass boat. Based on the year and if the trailer is in good shape as well, I'd GUESS somewhere in the $1K - $1.5K range(??). Check for similar boats for sale on Craig's List and Ebay to get a better idea how much it's actually worth.

Pontoon boat
From all the research and reading I've done on inflatable pontoons, I gather that they are great. You can get them as kickboats only or with the oars and even with trolling motor mounts in some cases. PROS: they pretty much keep you high and dry out of the water, have lots of storage room, are very stealthy, will allow you access to many great spots, are extremely portable, and don't cost all that much. CONS: they get blown around in windy conditions, they can leak/deflate (unless you have a rigid pontoon version like a Hobie Float Cat 60/75), some can take a while to assemble/disassemble, most will not allow you to stand up. I seriously considered getting one but since I wasn't sure they were legal and allowed on the float tube/shore fishing only lake I want to fish, I opted for a float tube/kick boat hybrid.

***Please pass the MOJO-2008***
Of course I'm in!! Nothing I'd rather do than catch a bass, rub off some MOJO and send it on its way to another great BR member.

1st Fat Ika fish!
soccplayer07: I used an EWG 4/0 Owner worm hook and T-rigged the Ika backwards with the skirt up and weightless like RW recommended. I threw it within a few inches of some tulies, hopped it once and the bass hit it HARD! I was so excited - first Fat Ika fish AND my first bass caught on my new/used ProCraft boat!! This lure and technique is going to become one of my favorites, that I can already see!

Just Upgraded
Congratulations to you on the new boat and to your son on his fine catch!!! I'm SURE there will be MANY to follow!

What 'custom' enhancements have you made for your boat? (other than decks)
As soon as I got my ProCraft I made two PVC rocket launcher style standup rod holders, one 2 rod holder and one 3 rod holder. They work great.

Oldie's But Goodies ???
Hula Poppers and Jitterbugs. Two of the best topwater lures ever invented, IMO.

What's Jumping Out There?
Carp have been churning up the waters on the lakes down in the So. CA region for the last month. Those big splashes really gets the adrenaline flowing, IMO:o)

Kyle Busch
Kyle is just an aggressive driver who wants to win, IMO. Jr. even stated that it was just one of those "racing get togethers" that are bound to happen in almost every race. Wanna see someone drive really scary, watch Montoya (again, in my own opinion).

Mountain biking.
While riding the last mountain bike I had on the street, I hit a huge rut and flew over the handlebars, cracked my helmet (thank the Lord I was wearing one - always do), and cracked 3 ribs. Sold the dang thing a week later. I still love to ride my road bikes and I also have a commuter hybrid Trek which is nice to ride but a tad on the slow side.

How safe is tubing?
I am about to JOIN the ranks of float tubers here in So CA since Upper Otay Lake only allows tubing and shore fishing AND I watched a few tubers catch some NICE 2,3, & 4 pound bass DIRECTLY in front of where I was standing on shore (they were about 20 - 25 feet further out in the lake than I could cast!!). I ordered me what is subjectively speaking one of, if not the best float tubes on the market, an H3 Freestyle from North Fork Outdoors. It is more of a float tube/pontoon/kick boat than what most people refer to as float tubes. At 6' long and 48" wide, it is extremely stable and SAFE. In fact, most owners RAVE about it being the best "tube" they've ever owned. It also seats a person a few inches OUT of the water, which I really liked. I also bought a new pair of breathable waders which arrived Saturday and already have two great pair of diving fins for propulsion. From all the extensive research I've done on tubing, it is a VERY SAFE way to fish as long as proper safety precautions are observed, like having/wearing a PFD! For the Southern States which have large carnivorous beasties to contend with, i.e. alligators, I would NOT subject myself to that deadly risk. In a lake without such creatures, tubing should be as safe as YOU make it. Visit this website for some great information: http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?category=66;
