A friend from Fla. caught this Big Girl somewhere around DeFuniak Springs Fla. and from shore!!! All I could say was WOW He caught her on a Denny Brauer Pro Model jig and RAGE Chunk in Black and Blue... Said he caught another one on the same bait 3 days later and in the same spot that rivaled this one. I told him if I were him, I'd buy that piece of ground he's standing on and Camp out on it.... with a fishing rod of course Big O www.ragetail.com

It was a white Rage Craw tipped with a small (Prototype) red plastic cap that slipped over the end and eye of the hook (which is the tail of the Craw). He said the red made the fish a little madder. If I can find a photo, I'll post it here for you! Here's a quote from his story on Wired to fish... “I just mixed it up, and it didn’t matter what color. I did a lot of black-blue, Okeechobee craw, white — white Rage Craw was really big for me. Jignfule, Although my opinion may seem TOTALLY BIASED... I will guarantee you that it IS My favorites and uses are as follows: 1) 10" Anaconda and/or Thumper T or C-rigged. I'll also flip'em if I find fish in the real deep trees using 3/4 to 1oz weight with a rubber weight stop to peg the weight tight to the bait. 2) Rage Hawg and Smokin Rooster rigged and fished the same as noted above but flipping in shallower cover such as trees, brush as well. 3) Lobster and Space Monkey for all the above but also as a larger profile jig trailers and weightless topwaters. 4) Eeliminator is my all time favorite C-rig bait but is also designed for topwater presentation... slow or quick retrieve. With the exception of the Eeliminator, I like all of the above bait designs on what I call a "Rage Rig" which is using a weighted (Swimbait) hook on them. For many years, one of my favorite Big fish presentations over grass or in shallow cover has been the Anaconda rigged this way but all of them are effective depending on the particular profile that the fish want most at any given time. Just fish them like a slow T-rig with a slow lift, fall and feel. There are some who do well with the Eeliminator like this but I personally prefer the others. Again, I am prejudiced in my opinion of bait choices but they're my BABIES and they love to catch big fish as much as I do Hope that helps Big O www.ragetail.com

Smokin Rooster on the Top... Wow, I guess it's such a wild lookin' Critter that the bass just have to pick on it I've not fished it purposely on the top per say, since I have many others to choose from but I have reeled it up quickly from a flipped tree only to have a BIG Mouth follow it up and crush it as soon as it touched the surface I'm glad you like it Fat-G... regardless how you fish it and WTG on that FAT Girl. Another Healthy Fish caught Flipping a Rage Hawg and I think it comes close to HAWG HEAVEN When a fish like this is only 15ft from the boat and in the sticks when you set the hook... you have to get their head up immediately and keep'em moving hard and fast toward you or you'll have little chance of getting them out. Heavy tackle and braid is a big plus for these kind of battles and a little LUCK never hurts either Hope y'all are getting a chance to fish a little too! Big O www.ragetail.com

When you get time ck out the Moaner Weighted Stroker hooks... excellent design and quality with best prices anywhere. I've been rigging like this for over 30 years, long before weighted hooks. Used to pinch split shot on the belly of the hook. I call it a "Rage Rig" but you can call it anything you want... just go have FUN with it Big O www.ragetail.com

Red, if you want to flip in shallow cover (less than five ft) and very little wind, 1/4oz is OK but I'd advise 3/8 for deeper water and Shane covered the uses well. Hard to beat this technique when casting and fishing it identical to a T rig in 5 ft or less. Extremely effective on and over grass or moss beds too. Will work with any soft plastic presentation and keep it slow... Big O www.ragetail.com

At night, often bigger, more noise and vibration from your bait is good even with the slowest presentations like worms, jigs etc. A jig with a rattle can help as well. Top buzzers are good in some conditions for spawners cruising shallow over nest areas. Big O www.ragetail.com

X2 ... If the fish is in the junk, brush or trees, once you set the hook, never allow the rod tip to drop or less pressure on the fish. Try not to drop the rod tip while reeling, keep it up and tight. If anything increase the pressure as much possible. If the fish hangs in brush or whatever, keep them snugged up against it because they will likely try to turn the opposite direction and free themselves from the snag heading upward toward you. By never allowing less pressure, the aggressive fish will often sink the hook in deeper during their fight. If they appear that their going to surface, follow the advice Jeff gave for that. When in open water, steady pressure and control is the key and take your time to let them play out prior to boating them. Big O www.ragetail.com

All good info... might add 4 or 5/0 weighted screwlock hooks like (Moaner Weighted Stroker) for adding a horizontal fall to your Craws and/or other high action soft plastics. When a shallow T rig bite is tough, this will often improve it. And when it's good, this can sometime make it even better Fish'em slow, just like a normal T rig! Big O www.ragetail.com
