Why do we spend $25 on a crankbait when...
i don't put things in categories such as expensive/inexpensive...i put things in categories such as what works/what don't. if it works, it's worth it. if it don't, it ain't.

Shad Rap type cranks?
i fish them year round...along with the original floater, they consistently catch all species here...that may or may not be a good thing, depending on your point of view, but it speaks volumes about their effectiveness. after the hard jerkbaits, the jointed shadrap (and floater) are generally the first cranks i reach for here in colder waters...the jointed shadrap has an incredibly twisting slow-rising death spiral in cold water and, imo, the better bait here when they are first staging off points and not quite ready to chase...reel it down and kill it...and hold on. as winter waters begin to warm in mid to late feb. here, the regular shadrap begins to shine...at this time and, again in my waters, i don't think any other crank beats it...when familiarity steps in and the days get longer, the megabass deepx 100 and the lc slimshad work extremely well in rotation. bottom line, from new years to father's day, the jointed minnow, the shadraps, the lc flat mini's, the deepx 100's and the slim shads are pretty much the only cranks you need down here. seems they rarely get tired of one or the other.

rods
if you're asking about choices between a M or MH rod to put your new reel on, i would personally pick the MH for the baits you've mentioned.

Changing treble hooks?
i just use a pocket knife to open them.

jig trailers
i like to keep things simple...99% of the time i fish a jig, there's a zoom super chunk jr. on the back of it. i use other trailers, as well, but they're mainly for change-up...day in and day out, the old "rabbit ears" out produces them all. ymmv.

Casting Accuracy Spin VS Baitcst

Sustain vs. Stradic FI is it really worth the extra money for me?
once bought a sustain after years of using stradics. the sustains are a tad smoother but, otherwise there's little difference.

Lube before or after use
x2. some you get are good to go...some you get are bone dry.

jig/worm
if it's made outta plastic, i've put it on a ballhead jig...one of the best producers made. that said, it ain't for all plastics...especially the thicker fat ika, sweet beaver deal..have used a ballhead with a zoom ole monster but, will be the first to tell you that you'll get better hook-ups using the traditional bullet weight/worm hook set-up. you can get pretty small with spinning...one of my better days with spinning have come on an 1/8 oz. ballhead w/3" or even 2" grub.

Why I like Loomis?
fired up the grill a few months back...while waiting on the coals, i picked up an my trusty mbr782, put on a practice plug and started fishing for the neighbor's cat. to make a long story short, i left the rod on the back patio (there were a few adult beverages involved in this)...woke up the next morning and found that the neighbor's cat had made a skeleton handle outta my 782...chewed the cork clean off. called loomis...told them what happened (i don't think the good folks in woodland like cats, either)...a brand new mbr782 was on its way to the house that day...loomis is where loomis is for more than rod quality. bottom line, although loomis makes a great yardfishing pole, next time i go cranking for the neighbor's cat, i'm thinking... weatherby. 8-)

ACTUAL bad experiences with quantum reels
my first and last quantums were an iron 4 and a us 600. after about a year and a half, you could grind folger's in one and maxwell house in the other.
