  1. LBH,way too cool!!! Glenn, thank you for giving us bass junkies an outlet to learn, make friends, and just have a darn good time!
  2. I use mine to find structure such as dropoffs, humps, channels, and also cover on the structure. It's tempting to assume you're going to clean up when the fish alarm starts going off,but I've never had much success with that.
  3. Go shallow and pitch to vegetation. If the water is muddied up go to a dark or highly colorful bait that makes some noise or vibration.
  4. Jerkbaits,spinnerbaits,Texas rig,C-rig,crankbaits,topwaters,flippin',pitchin',weigtless plastics,finese presentations,etc.
  5. Perch Jerkers-crappie fishermen
  6. I agree that big baits catch big bass although I've caught several on spinnerbaits and 6" worms.I've caught about 95% of my big bass between dawn and 6:30 AM.I've caught a few during the middle of the day.
  7. It's starting to cool down even down here in MS.I'm gonna fish spinnerbaits (white),floating and suspending jerkbaits, shallow running c-baits in shad patterns, topwaters, and pitch and cast plastics.
  8. I've had a lot of success casting jig/pig for bigger than average bass.I like to fish it deep.I like pitchin' 4" tubes in watermelon and salt and pepper, weightless.I'll fish a T-rigged worm most any place, and I really like to fish a 3x lizard(watermelon,pumpkin/chartruese,black w/blue tail) on a C-rig.The 3x really floats up above the brass weight.
  9. It's all been said but spinnerbaits, shallow crankbaits, floating and suspending Rogues(chrome/black,chrome/blue,gold/black with orange),jig/pig(blue w/natural pig, black w/blue pig, brown w/orange pig),and plastics. The bass will be following the bait fish into the backs of feeder creeks and coves,so go shallow.
  10. During the school year,I fish every Sat and Sun. During Summer,Christmas,Thanksgiving, and Spring breaks I fish 5-6 days per week. When I retire from coaching(26 years;want to make 30),I'll fish 5-6 days a week year 'round.
  11. I use everstart.Three years and counting.
  12. I like the cable. Just one less thing to go wrong.
  13. Welcome, mate!Looks like you could get your line seriously stretched down under.
  14. Had a ski boat full of drunks zipping up and down the lake making life miserable for all the fishermen. It started getting out of the skiing area.I was in the middle of what looked like deep water(a gigantic 20-30 acre flat). These bozos didn't realize it averaged about 3 feet deep...and littered with stumps, heh, heh!Well they hit the flat at what looked to be full throttle.Yep;you guessed it.They hit a stump, came to a complete stop, and knocked 4-5 drunk teenagers into the water. It had a hole the size of garbage can lid in the side of their fancy ski boat.Nobody hurt...just stone cold sober.
  15. I catch, photo, and release.Have no problems with those who keep 'em.I don't use a net.I mostly just lip 'em.I do use a Berkley Boca (think that's what it's called). It grabs their lip.Don't use it because of losing fish.I got hooked twice in 2 weeks a couple of years back with treble hooks and had to get them removed at the emergency room.If I catch one that looks like trouble ,I ****** her up with the Boca grip.
  16. I'm fishing a Minn Kota All Terrain.I'm using 40 lb. thrust(15 ft boat)and it gets me around great. It comes in a lot more powerful models also.
  17. Welcome! You landed on the best bassin' site on the net.Great guys(and gals),great info, and great fun.
  18. I would have wanted to go off on them, but you did the right thing,I think. The world is full of imbeciles and a$$es.Better to back off than land in jail or on a cold slab over a fishing spot.
  19. I'm sure that advertising affects the way I buy on some level. My thing is I have a favorite brand for just about everything.Examples:J-baits-Rogues,spinnerbaits-strike king,plastics-zoom and culprit,Rods-Berkley,line-Berkley,TM-Minn Kota,OB-Yamaha.reels-Ambassaduer and Quantum.Sounds like I've been thoroughly anesthesized by the big companies and their advertising.(At least I vary my brand name obsession product to product).
  20. Welcome! My wife fishes with me also, and she is one heck of a bass angler. You'll learn a lot(I have). These guys know their stuff.
  21. Sounds like you got to his honey hole before he did.I've never heaed of not fishing near a ramp.I mean ,I'm not gonna get right where they back in the boat ,but...
  22. This may seem like a dumb answer, but I like to put on a power bait that I really have confidence in and then try to make as many casts as I can.I wanna make 1000 casts.Odds are something will react to the bait and hit. That doesn't work all the time.I know sometimes you gotta slow down, but that's my favorite.
  23. I was sitting in my boat before the sun had come up one morning. While waiting for it to lighten up a little bit,I threw a topwater bait out on a long cast trying to get the line straightened out on that particular baitcaster.I was in 10 ft of water, working furiously on my line by flashlight.I heard a big splash in the direction of the topwater that had just been sitting stil for a couple of minutes .I reeled in the slack and had a fish on.When I got it in it was a 3-4 lb. channel cat.
  24. I like a frog or rat in lily pads. And don't set the hook until you can feel him.Better have heavy mono, braid,or superline on,though.Aweedless plastic (trick worm, senko, etc.) works too.Fish it weightless.
  25. Up until about a month ago my weakness was pitchin'.I had just never done it.Flippin' always came pretty easy, but to pitch with a baitcaster and not get a backlash every time was a challenge for me.I've practiced about every afternoon for the past month or so and can do it with only the occaisional birdsnest.
