Micro and Dan: you guys bring up some good points and are making me do some thinking. Pretty much what I was hoping for and why I put this here. SPEEDBEAD sadly there are no Gander Mountains near me. But, thanks for the heads up.

Gun Safe
Thanks Micro that's some good information I hadn't thought about. I'll have to talk to my dad about the insurance policy at home. I'd just like to have some fire protection. The safe is gonna stay in the basement., so movement isn't a huge issue for me. I may leave the safe with them so my dad can have it and I'd buy a new one. That's true I would get alot more safe for the money without fire protection. Keeping them away from unauthorized access (theft) is my main worry, there are no kids around. I'd like to know if someone wants to steal them they will atleast have to work for them. Plus this way there isn't stuff all around, it'll be in 1 place. I'll look into all that, thanks.

Gun Safe
I tried my local Dick's and most of their safes were the non-fire resistant Stack On's or ones by Field and Stream. Wasn't too sure about the F and S ones and I want something with some fire protection.

Gun Safe
Hey guys I figured this would be a good topic given the current handgun thread. I'm looking to buy a safe probably at the beginning of 2011. There are no kids in the house or in the family to worry about but I'd like to have somewhere to keep the growing collection protected and in one place. I was hoping you guys could offer some recommendations. Trying to spend under 1k (I know you get what you pay for). Not looking for a huge safe. mostly gonna have handguns so shelfs are a must as I'm in the city so thats what most ranges allow. Any brands or models to look at or stay far away from would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Handguns
You never know. I never thought I'd own a handgun unless I moved out of the city. Now I own 2 handguns. Also, not to be political but it's well known that Mayor Daley has been one of the biggest opponents of guns and concealed carry. It's possible with him leaving Chicago that concealed carry could be a reality.

Handguns
I should probably add the Sig was for home defense and taking to the range. The Ruger was to have something to have fun with and so I could could try to introduce some friends to shooting. Might try using it for a somewhat local bullseye club too.

Handguns
I have a Sig P226 in .40S&W that's been great for the little over 3 months I could own it. Friday I'll be picking up a Ruger MarkIII 22/45RP. For all practial purposes it's brand new, and will be so much cheaper to shoot. It's nice to finally be allowed to own a handgun. Also guys maybe the gun is a gift that his dad or someone will own on paper til he's 21.

Advice needed......
I'm not a pilot but has he checked out to see if the airforce has any info on the web? Maybe he could try talking to an airforce recruiter if there is one around. Those are 2 things that come to mind.

Stupid hit and run driver
I haven't posted here for awhile but I figured I had to share this story as I know everyone on here enjoys a stupid person/criminal story. I was on my way home from a few days in MI yesterday (awesome 4hrs of fishing that morning) and was getting close to home when I got stopped at a red light. I see the people in front on me letting a lady come out of a parking lot so she could cross traffic and at the same time what do I see? A large gold blur. A lady was speeding down the median (not a lane) to make the arrow and I can only think this is gonna be bad. Of course by now you all have figured of the lady in the gold Youkon hit the lady in the little VW. At this point the lady in the Youkon made it look like she was gonna back up, didn't but made a gesture like she was gonan turn and come back. Ahh...but she took off. Since I watched all this happen I figured the young lady that got hit might need a witness so I go around the block to turn around. What do I see but the lady that just ran. So I copied her plate number to take back to the lady. I knew it was her because of the strange decal she had. The lady was not hurt and very happy I stopped and even happier when I said I got the other person's plate number. So she called the police and her insurance agent and 25-30 minutes the police show up and I give them all my info and they told me I could go. Being the curious person I am and needing to turn around to head home what do I do? Go see if the lady who ran is still there of course. Of course, the lady and SUV are both still there. So once again back to the police who were still with the lady. I told them and they were leaving right behind me to have a chat with the lady that took off. So I hope things work out for the lady that got hit but atleast they should have been able to do something for her. Moral of the story, if you do something illegal of stupid don't have any distinct decals on your car and park farther than a block away.

Car detailing ???
I had some wax dry up on a black plastic part of my car and I used an Eagle 1 detailing spray. It was one of those ones that you'd use if you were cleaning up your car at a car show. Sorry I don't have the bottle right now to see the name.

Lasik Eye Surgery for Fisherman
Just thought I'd provide an update. Everything is fine just one eye is healing alittle slower. Doc is happy and said it's just alittle bit longer. Also I went back and changed my previous posts it was actually PRK not PKR.

Lasik Eye Surgery for Fisherman
RWHusker, I'm with you about being scared. I finally decided to do because I was going to have to buy new contacts and also needed to update my glasses so that was gonna make a dent in the payment. And if it helps my biggest worry was hearing "opps" during the procedure and being blind but my research showed no one has actually been blinded by the procedure. Any major problems like that were associated with infections post-op. Although the recovery is longer the PRK is nice because the actual lasering of the eye can be as short as 30 seconds. Mine took 1 minute for 1 eye and a minute and 20 seconds for the other.

Lasik Eye Surgery for Fisherman
BigRick it's actually common with the PRL to not have clear vision right away. That's one of the major differences between the cutting LASIK and the one I had. If you aren't familiar with the PRK they use a laser to reshape the the front of the eye. The reason it takes alittle longer to initially see clearly is that the cells on the front of the eye are regrowing and as they move through your field of vision it can be blurry. I've actually see the doctor a few times since my surgery and he's happy with how I've been healing. On an upside no real problems with dry eye. Anyone who's had LASIK knows what I mean.

Lasik Eye Surgery for Fisherman
I'm actually in the recovery process of surgery right now. Word of caution if you are looking into the LASIK PRK which is the no touch/no cut. Your doctor may tell you you'll see fine in just a few days but its actually closer to atleast 2 weeks. Today was 3 weeks since I had my eyes lasered and distance is still kind of blurry, there's a sharpness missing. It's kinda like wearing an old pair of glasses. I do go back to the doctor tomorrow so we'll see what he says. A nice advantage of the PKR is they don't have to cut that little flap so any of the complications from the flap.

Ever burst a blood vessel in your eye ???
FishChris, Although many people are commonly on both blood pressure medications and blood thinners they are 2 different things really. Blood thinners (asprin and warfarin/coumadin) are usually used to help prevent clots, while "blood pressure" (diuretics, beta blockers, ACE inhibitor and others) medications are used to lower your blood pressure. Those are some quick differences. There are alot more and other uses for each of them. PM me if you have any more questions.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
J-Bones, yeah I've spent a bunch of time on the river. Yes, it is pretty dirty. There is some junk in there. Don't go out after the rain and if you are careful its fine. Yeah, there isn't anything you can do about the ignorant boaters, but lets face it they are everywhere. Just becareful of the big ones coming off the big lake. As far as size goes there are some decent ones out there and you can find a bunch of little ones sometimes too. I don't sign on too much because of school now but send me a PM if I can help or maybe we can go hit it in the spring.

J-bones, since you are in Oak Forest do you ever hit the Cal Sag? It may not be the best place in the world but you can definitely have some fun there.

Asian Carp Invasion Spurs Drastic Measure
It is a pretty interesting situation. Obviosuly being in Chicago it's been on TV and all over the papers. A couple things that are interesting. First as of like 4:30 this evening they haven't found any of the carp yet. So both good and bad. Also its a sanitary cannal something they seem to kinda down play. It smells during the summer. Just a fun fact since most of you guys will never be on there. A quick final story from the news. Someone was on and was worried that the poison will affect their drinking water. He obviously hasn't ever considered taking a drink from the cannal. There are signs all along the cannal that say "Warning water not suitable for an human body contact" I'll see if I can find a picture of the sign later.

SI up front
Thanks Wayne I kinda forgot about the Yahoo group.

SI up front
Thanks WRB but I'm not actually looking for details about the setup. What I was hoping for are some guys that actually put the SI unit on the front. My 997 is staying where it is I'm just adding another unit. Like I said before I know there were a few guys on here looking to put one up front. After using using it for a season I'm not sure you'd get the best read becuase of moving around but I can see a few uses for it up front. From what I've heard in the past you would need another SI unit on the bow even if I network the 2 units to display the SI images. Not sure if that is true, but something I plan on looking into over the winter. If this is possible it'd probably be the option I'd pick.
