My baitcaster showed up today. I am impressed at this point. If I wasnt replacing bearing seals on my trailer in 15 I would tear into it and see the insides. I had the spool out, it reminds me of the older daiwas. From what I can tell there is no pinion gear bearing, just one on the spool shaft, one in the side plate.

Well, my micro showed up today and its much smaller than any other three arm. I am telling you no joke this thing is the size of my palm and every bit as small as a spinnerbait. If I put sick fish on it, they will have to be the smallest ones made.

In my honest opinion, this day in age you should wait till you can step it up to GPS capability. The things you can see on topo maps will show you a whole new piece of water. I wont ever have a boat without it.

I hear ya, sometimes its in the total wrong spot. I pulled a crankbait out of my palm with a key once.

You can tie jigs like I do with gelspun or kevlar thread. Or you can use wire like most others. IMO, that tool is for an on the water emergency.

Im still debating on if I am going to fish the first tournament sunday. I have a club tournament saturday and its in the complete opposite direction. A lot of moving and shaking for one weekend. Both 1hr + drives for me. One on the susquehanna river, one on raystown. I wouldve expected by now to have daytime highs near 50 almost daily. I remember 15 years ago being in HS and trying to get out of school early enough in Feb to fish a blue winged olive hatch on spring creek. I honestly believe that the seasons have shifted. It seems like winter never ends till April. Then, spring is very short lived followed closely by heat so intense you cant hardly take it with the humidity. That stays way into October and your walking into the archery woods by the time you get setup its like you took a sweat shower. Then rifle season rolls around in December, its still 50 and no snow. The moment the main season goes out the snow hits and you might have some for late archery/flintlock. Rinse and repeat.

I usually throw them both unless the grass is thick. Fire one in there, they dont want that, fire the other. When I stop the boat, theres no doubt in my mind there are at least a few fish there. I never pull up to a spot and look at it and think..."theres probably not a fish there but Ill try it anyhow". I see boats parked in places where I know that I saw it in winter draw down and theyre sitting on a mud flat mid summer. Homework pays off big.

Another thing to keep in mind when fishing moving water is that prey escapes by running down stream, its faster and more efficient. So throwing up stream and reeling downstream is the natural order.

I bought one of the baitcasters so we are giong to find out just how it performs. An aluminum frame baitcaster for $60 is hard to pass up. When i barked about the combo they had not having lefties the guy told me that even though it looks like the same reel it was only made for that combo. I have no clue what that means, he could be full of it. Its going to be my topwater reel.

Add another to the jealousy pool. I was supposed to fish a tournament sunday. We have 4" of new snow and theyre calling for nightime lows of 18 this week. The water in the cove last week was 34 per a report of a person on this board. I just dont see the productivity at this point in dropping $50, driving at 4am and fishing in the freezing cold.

Im with ya, no way id buy a reel at that price when theres name brand reels with more time in development.

Technically what you want are a pair of serrated scissors. Once you have them, open them up and hold the piece tight that you want to cut. Run the serated edge of one side in a cutting motion like a knife. This will also keep the scissors from being damaged. Learned this tying flies using kevlar thread.
