  1. I'd love to help a fellow young angler out: Spinners and rebel "craws" do work, especially for creek smallies but there are some better options out there. Get yourself a few jerkbaits, x-raps are definitely the best option for an angler on a budget, if you have the cash LC pointers are incredible. For x-rap, black/silver, glass ghost, and pink are good colors, for LC pointers, ghost minnow and chartreuse shad are all you need. The best jerkbait bite of the year is pretty much over but you can catch big smallies on jerkbaits year round. Also, familiarize yourself with tubes. 3.5" cabin creek (or another company) tubes in green pumpkin are one of the best smallmouth baits on the planet. Rig them with a 1/8oz tube jig head with sharp hooks (I prefer bite-me tube heads) and cast them around cover and slack water. If you have problem getting snagged use weedless tube jig heads. Spinnerbaits are fantastic for river smallmouth as well. War eagle spinnerbaits are an excellent choice due to their slightly smaller profile and quality components but any brand will work. For smallmouth, white/chartreuse is a good producer in dirty water and any translucent, natural color works well in clear water. Next time you go out, rig up these three baits and fish them exclusively, you should catch bass. There are some good bassresource articles covering these techniques so check them out.
  2. I know stringjam likes them and that guy knows crankbaits so I'm sure they're good lures. I know some guys who catch a lot of smallies with 'em on the river.
  3. My favorite is my custom loomis sbr812 that I built. I also have a 6'6" med carrot stix that I like for spinnerbaits as well. Caught a 40" musky on a spinnerbait about two hours ago using it so it definitely holds up fine!
  4. x2. These are the best jerkbaits on the market. x3 You can't beat them x4 best by far
  5. Never thought of it as being synthetic sweat LOL. Never been a big fan of gatorade anyway.
  6. the vanilla did suck big time but the french onion dip was awesome, and I don't think anything can take that title away from the chapple burger! ;D
  7. That Bucco is one wicked looking stick. And if you're saying its around the price point of a mojo, I think its going to give it some pretty stiff competition.
  8. So, last week I had omelets with cream cheese for the first time and they were incredible!!! Anyway, I woke up this morning and I was in the mood for scrambled eggs, and I figured I'd try some cream cheese in them to see how it was. Well, I was out of cream cheese, but I did have french onion dip... I was also out of milk, but I did have french vanilla creamer... and I also happened upon some vegetable farmers cheese... I used the french vanilla in place of milk (makes the eggs fluffy) and I added the farmers cheese and the french onion dip midway through the scrambling process. The result was... incredible! Definitely the best scrambled eggs ever! I went a little heavy on the vanilla creamer and I wasn't really a fan of that aspect. I think I'm just going to use regular milk next time. As for the french onion dip, the flavor was awesome, it absorbed right into the egg. If you guys like french onion dip I would highly recommend trying this!
  9. I'm with fbl if I would have driven 400 miles and then gotten screwed over like that there would be blood . Sounds like that TD has his head up his @$$.
  10. I mean I guess you do have a lot of time while you're letting it fall to the bottom but... ;D
  11. No dude, size-wise, 4" isn't too big at all. My favorite smallmouth lure is a pointer 128 and those things are 5" and weigh an ounce. I caught the 20" smallie in my avatar on a 128, and on the next cast I caught an 8" that was barely larger than the lure. They'll eat anything. I'm pretty sure Fish Chris has mentioned using 6" hudd swimbaits for smallmouth too.
  12. Favorite: KVD, the man is a freak, also a Gerald Swindle fan, I got to meet him and he's a pretty cool dude Least: Aaron Martens, don't like anything about the guy I'm going to add a new category... Most boring: David Fritts, everything about the dude makes me want to sleep...
  13. Not usually a big fan of poetry but that was some good stuff ;D
  14. I'm all for tinkering but I will advise you to try it on one or two, then fish them to make sure that they're going to workout the way you want. It would really suck if you drilled and filled a bunch of baits only to discover that they don't work right anymore.
  15. I just got one too and I'm absolutely jacked about unleashing it on the smallmouth in the next couple weeks! Let me know how you do with yours. Oh, and and as far as driving over an hour, try *** next time LOL ;D
  16. ;D ;D ;D That would be one of the very few circumstances where I would support PETA!
  17. I dig the username srv1990 it's flooding down in texas...
  18. Yeah the reels are junk but KVD is still the man. I always try to avoid anybody's signature stuff, the vast majority of the time they're not worth the price just because you're partially paying for the individuals name. There are a few exceptions but not very many.
  19. I actually really like those just because of the comment that is being made about society. I would never buy one, but they're cool nonetheless.
  20. Its absolutely terribly hilarious but I kinda feel bad for her just because of all of the comments people left
  21. So it seems like New Jersey has made at least one contribution to the world, other than being the inspiration behind air fresheners of course...
  22. PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals. That's my PETA.
  23. Like its been said before, you absolutely can use a spinning reel for every technique known in bass fishing. There are definitely some situations in which a baitcaster is the better choice though, and this is one of them IMO. You certainly can fish frogs with a spinning combo but you don't get the power that you do from a baitcaster. That being said, if you are more comfortable fishing a spinning reel, then that is the better choice for you. Fish what you're comfortable with. I fish small pointer 78s on a baitcaster while virtually everyone else I know uses a spinning rig. I'm more comfortable with a baitcaster, so that's what I use. In the end, you have to use what you think works best for you.
  24. It depends, if I'm fishing a tournament, it takes me about and hour and a half the night before to make sure all of my stuff is together and ready to go. As far as fun fishing goes, it all depends on how much effort I feel like putting in that day... I will say this, the amount of time it takes me to get ready is inversely proportional to the time that I wake up. The earlier I wake up, the longer it takes me to get ready.
