  1. The one area where I think high dollar lures really make a difference is with jerkbaits. The action on high dollar jerkbaits is much more refined and it definitely puts more fish in the boat IMO. I buy high dollar crankbaits and lipless crankbaits as well and I do notice some increase in performance and fish catching over cheaper baits, however, the difference is not nearly as dramatic as it is with jerkbaits IMO. Expensive lures don't make you a fisherman though, I've had my arse handed to me by guys fishing ugly sticks, cheap reels, and $4 xps lures.
  2. I have fished several other brands of senkos and I know not everybody has feels the same but in my experiences the original outperforms any of the "off-brand" senkos. Again thats just my experience. I have done very will with tiki sticks though so if your looking for an alternative that would be my suggestion, I've also heard very good things on here about *** so you might want to explore that option as well. A tip I will give you is that if you wacky rig senkos, get one of the BPS wacky-rig o-ring tools (or make one yourself using a pen and nail). O-rings really reduce the wear and tear on the bait and allows it to last much longer. I can usually get at least five bass (sometimes much more) on one senko using o-rings whereas I might need to switch every 2 or 3 bass without them.
  3. I'm heading up to raystown for a few days in mid june. Never fished it before but I hear the bite can be pretty tough. Any tips about the lake that time of year?
  4. If any of you guys are interested there's a really good jerkbait article in the latest Bassmaster. The pictures of the disected LC Pointer are a little painful though...
  5. I hope this pans out well, I was really disappointed when I read that Loomis won't be selling blanks anymore :'(
  6. Sometimes I think the drunker people get the less drunk they think they were...
  7. I do remember that it was FAT. Her sides were bulging out like crazy. She might have been spawning, I caught her in late late may early june
  8. Sorry to do this to you guys but... how big do you think this bass is. I caught it several years ago (if you can't tell by the picture lol) in a pond I used to fish when I was younger. I vaguely remember the fish being in the neighborhood of 23" but I didn't get to weigh it on a scale (I must have left my scale beside my coloring books at home ;D). I was going through some photos and I found it in amongst my other fishing pictures. So, what do you guys think weight wise. http://s649.photobucket.com/albums/uu211/basswrangler569/?action=view&current=scan0002.jpg
  9. I do not have a number to contribute but I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Brent for his post
  10. X2 be safe and thank you for your service
  11. Yeah that changes things completely. If kids are present that's definitely out of line, and even if there weren't children present I still consider that to be unprofessional. Swearing around your friends and people you know is one thing but if you are speaking to a group as a professional, you need to leave the language at home IMO.
  12. yeah I'm with the other guys, "holy crap" isn't a curse word. I would have been ticked if the guy was dropping f-bomb but I mean, I hear worse things than "holy crap" on PG rated movies.
  13. I feel your pain, I hate it when all those pesky 5-6lb largemouth are bothering my lure... ;D I tell you what man, I don't care where you live, california, mexico, anywhere, if you can say "6lber" and "not photo worthy" in the same sentence, you are a d@mn good fishermen!
  14. yeah it does, I'd like to know if he actually weighed it or if that was his "professional estimation"
  15. American Eagle and Hollister are prep city LOL. Although from what I hear hollister is made better.
  16. The vast majority of the time I'm a chocolate guy but every now and then I get the craving for vanilla. I will say though, french vanilla ice cream and apple pie is the best combination ever!
  17. with $500, I would focus on getting two good setups first, and leave about $100-150 for the gear. Rods and reels are more expensive and you have to have a good chunk of change to buy them all at once. You can always spend $20 here and there on lures when you have some extra cash. Overtime your arsenal will grow.
  18. If he would have asked around I suspect he could have got it mounted for free. I don't know a whole lot of taxidermists (outside of california, where bass like that are commonplace) who would turn down the opportunity to mount a 18.5lb largemouth.
  19. I prefer Nichols spinnerbaits most of the time but I use war eagles when the waters clear.
  20. I fish with BPS fluoro and its great. That being said, I haven't tried trilene 100% fluoro. I probably will once I work my way through the BPS stuff (I bought about a dozen spools when it was on sale).
  21. I still suck on my own lake... ;D Is your home lake Racetown by any chance LOL??? I have met very few people who don't suck there.
  22. read carefully. Definite violation. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1242250347 Anyway... as far as agressive fish, all I'm gonna say is if smallmouth grew to around 100lbs I wouldn't swim in the water anymore. Heck, I don't know if I'd feel safe on a boat.
  23. Two summers ago I caught a 7lb+ largemouth that had 3 hooks, not including mine, in its mouth semi-deep already. They appeared to have been there a while and that fish was healthy so I think it all depends on the fish. Some can survive some can't BTW I did remove the other hooks before I released her
  24. My wife kept driving them away. :'( somebody married you??? Mailorder bride??? ;D
  25. x2 This frog has been catching most of my fish recently. X3 best frog out there bar none IMO
