I'm a fan of cabin creek too. I personally prefer green pumpkin but smoke works well too.

small mouth lures?
In October I would be sticking with tubes, hair jigs, and jerkbaits. Try fishing the jerkbaits (lc pointers) in front of bridge pillings if their are plenty of brides in that area. The pilings with some wood or grass in front of them seem to hold better fish IMO. You can catch smallmouth on tubes any time of the year so that always a good bet as well. If the water temperature is pretty cold don't be afraid to really slow down those jerkbaits. Good luck.

Some Kind of Monster
Exactly. Megadeth is the only real thrash band left. Metallica sold out.

crankbait - wide wobble vs. tight wobble
I use wide wobbling cranks when the fish are active or if the water is murky. A wide wobbling crank displaces a lot of water which makes it easier for the fish to find in low visibility conditions. I typically use tight wobbling cranks when the fish are inactive or when the water is clear.

What do you look for in a spinnerbait?
The word "Terminator" on the package!

Popper speed?
Like LBH said vary your retrieve until you find the presentation they like. I typically start with a medium speed 3-5 pop retrieve and if that fails I'll slow it down or speed it up until I find the right retrieve. Sometimes I've waited as long as a minute in between pops in order to catch fish, other times you can't get the bait back to the boat fast enough.

CRB Split Grip System opinions
Well I tend to like my handles rather long with the reels seat up pretty high so hopefully it will fit okay.

CRB Split Grip System opinions
Has anyone ever used one of the CRB Split-Grip handle systems. They look pretty sweet (link attached below). I'm thinking about ordering the EVA foam one for the flipping rod I'm about to build. It says it has a woven mounting tube, how exactly are use supposed to mount it (I've never built a rod using a "mounting tube" before). Also, do you think it would fit an IMX Flippin' blank, it doesn't give any size information. http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/CRB-Custom-Handle-System/CRB-Handle-System-1

Without out doubt Largemouth Bass: An In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies is the best fishing book I have ever read. You won't be dissapointed.

That is an absolutely wicked stick!

Best little river bait for this time of year?
Try some of the small slender pointers and crankbaits in crawdad colors. I start throwing tubes as well when the water gets colder.

A Lesson Learned
I'm not posting this under the tournament forum because I think this is a lesson that could benefit everyone. I'm a member of the Capital City Bassmasters and today we had our 5th annual Leukemia Charity Bass Tournament on the Susquehanna River (we raised $10,000+ for kids with leukemia!). The leukemia tournament is one of the biggest tournaments in the state every year. The club's president and myself were helping with the tournament and we debated entering but we decided against it because we needed to be in by noon to help set up for the weigh-in. After the boats for the tournament launched we decided to go out and do a little fun fishing before we had to go back to setup. By 10:30 we caught 7 Keepers, our biggest five of which would have weighed at least 15lbs if not more. We stopped fishing at 11:30 to get ready for the weigh-in. After all the fish were weighed we looked at the top weights. Out of 73 boats our 15lbs would have taken 5th place (well within the payout cutoff) and who knows how well we would have done if we would have entered the tournament and fished the whole time. Maybe we would have blanked and come in last... but I doubt it. My point is, if you're ever debating about whether to fish a tournament, keep in mind you never know how well you might do. Further more, if you decide not to fish a tournament, don't go out and fish for fun, you might end up regretting it!

New Pet!!!!!!!
Living 60 miles from a town with store other than a local general merchandise store, so you take what you can get when you can get it. Especially wth todays gas prices. In due time there will be some darker, rocks and some fake weeds but for now he/ she is fine. She swims up to the side of the tank whenever someone approches it, its not like she sees a shadow and scatters and trys to hide. She loves the attention. No,...it's starving and has associated your approach with "food". Put it in it's natural environment and see which of us is right. I'm thinking it won't hang around at your ankles waiting for more "attention". I hate being hard on someone but you clearly haven't taken the time to educate yourself on this subject yet have gone ahead and harvested a wild game fish anyway. To me, that's just irresponsible. There are scenarios/situations where bass are fine in captivity, yours is not one of them. LMAO, it dont get food everytime someone walks up to the tank.....LOL Its funny how people seem to think a animal or fish cant have a personality, I believe Leroy Brown did (the 1lb BassTom Mann added to his pool of much lafger bass) In Mann's Words he DOMINATED his new home. In the 8 years he taugt him to jump through hoops and eat live bait from his hand and became a attraction at Tom Mann's fish world and even eclipsed his owners notoriety. Not that my fish will ever do tha but hey are not the impersonible objects that just bite our lures, as most would think. The fish has clear water, more food than it cares to eat, and plenty of space, just like a most gold fish, pirahnas or other fish people have in there tanks & i don't see the negativity in them being owned. Anyway i am done with the negativity if you dont like it FINE good for you, the fish is not going anywhere but to a bigger tank soon to live its life (with probably a couple more bass) 1 year 10 years who knows. Thanx for telling me how, dumb, irresponsible and uncool i am though!!! Also i am glad to hear from the people who enjoy it as much as i do. Its all good Dude don't worry about it, its your fish and I don't see any problem with what you're doing or how your feeding it. Everytime I walk in the kitchen my dogs fly in to see if I'm going to give them any food. Believe me when I tell you they are not starving but they beg for food anyway. I imagine a bass is capable of doing the same thing. I don't know if I would feel comfortable keeping a bass but I don't think of it as an ethical or morale dilemma as long as you take care of it. As far as people making you feel irresponisble, uncool, or idiotic just remember, everyone is someone elses moron.

Largemouth Bass - Nature's Most Perfect Killing Machine
Hilarious reading. I do have to admit though, if largemouth got to be 60-100lbs I'd half to rethink swimmin' in lakes. A 60lb bass would have a mouth the size of a manhole cover!

is Lucky craft overpriced??
Exactly, they are definitely expensive but they're worth every penny. I have found very few instances when the saying "You get what you pay for" wasn't true. Will they catch 3 times more bass than rapalas, maybe... but probably not. Will they put a few more bass in the boat than cheaper lures, absolutely. It all depends on whether or not you think that those few extra fish are worth the extra $8-12.

BPS 09 catalog feature opinion
Yea but all the other companies will give it real creative ripoff names like orange shad, sunshine shad, florida shad, etc. I'm sure they'll be some creative sexy shad ripoffs too. Probably attractive shad, foxy shad, erotic shad, hot shad, bangin' shad...

Cartopping a jon boat? What is needed?
I have a 10 footer that I bought new last year. It only weighs 80lbs so lifting it isn't a big deal. You're going to need at least two long ratchet straps (mine are 14 or 16ft) to tie the boat down with. I use two ropes, one tied at the front and one tied at the back, to prevent the boat from shifting forward or backward during travel. The ratchet straps get spaced apart over the middle of the boat. Make sure you ratchet it down tight. If its not down tight or if its not straight on your vehicle it might make a whistling noise as you travel (at least mine sometimes does).

wasabi/chartruese spinnerbait
I can't really help you either but welcome just he same. Isn't that the spinnerbait Charlie Moore uses constantly on his "show" (if you can call it that)?
