  1. I wouldn't say they're useless. It's places like Bass Pro that show us just how great Tackle Warehouse's service really is. I mean, how can you judge what "good service" means until you've had the misfortune of receiving bad service? Just to clarify, the majority of the employees I've dealt with at the Atlanta BPS have been great. It's the management that sucks big hairy ones.
  2. I'm thinking about labeling mine with L, W, and S for the things I typically catch on them...like Logs, Weeds, and Sticks.
  3. In certain neighborhoods around here that may not even be an option.
  4. At least you're filling up two different vehicles. My Suburban has a 40 gal. tank. It takes two cards (or two swipes of the same card) to fill it up. It was a real PITA when gas was hovering around $4.50 gal.
  5. Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina. A buddy and I are heading to Georgia March 20. Will be fishing the small pond behind my daughter's home and relaxing on Sunday. Monday, off to Varner with a guide. One day on a private pond with a managed population of biggies (supposedly). Maybe another guided trip at the end of the week. Plenty of small ponds and lakes that are perfect for small boats and canoes. Most don't allow gas engines or boats over 16 feet. The snow is gone around here, and the temps did hit 50 today. The next sunny calm day, I'm going to hit my favorite pond with jigs and shakey heads. Only if it warms up a lot in the next couple days. They're talking about snow for tomorrow afternoon/evening. If I wanted to deal with the white crap that falls form the sky I would've stayed in NH. >
  6. I use an engraving pencil and write the diving depth on the underside of the bill. For one that dives 2' - 5' I'd just put 2-5. If it's an unusual crank, I may put the brand and/or model name on there as well. That way I can pick up another one if that one turns out to be especially productive.
  7. http://www.truck-bedz.com/ The $180 air matress for SUVs made me lol. I have a tent that attaches to the back of my Suburban. The wife and I sleep on a $20 full-size air matress in the back of the 'Burb and the boys sleep on twin-size air matresses in the tent. When they get holes in them (and they will) I throw them away and buy new ones. Cheap, easy to find, and they take standard fitted sheets. http://www.sportzbynapier.com/product.html?product_num=46
  8. Have you tried calling them before posting your gripe here? Their customer service is absolutely fantastic.
  9. I really like the feel and response of the blank. It's soft enough to keep a fish on without being "whippy" like many of the glass rods I had handled. If it had a full cork grip, I'd see no need to get rid of it. It'll most likley be replaced with an Avid AVC70MM later this season. Spending all of my extra money on fly fishing gear right now.
  10. I don't have strong feelings either way about foregrips, but after owning a couple split grip rods, I just prefer a full cork grip. The whole black foam grip thing isn't my style either. Reminds me of Ugly Sticks. I typically cast lipless and deeper cranks with two hands, so a full grip cranking rod is definitely more comfortable to me.
  11. 7' M/MF Kistler MgAJCBSGGM70 Alton Jones Crank Bait Special graphite/glass composite. Great rod, light and sensitive. The only negative (for me anyway) is the split grip. I just don't like 'em. If this thing had a full cork grip it would be absolutely killer. As much as I like the blank, the split grip really is a deal-breaker for me and I'll probably wind up getting rid of it a little later in the season. http://www.tackledirect.com/kistler-mgajcbsggm70-alton-jones-crankbait-casting-rod.html
  12. Wow, my wife would shoot me if I threw down $700 on one trip! Spend $350, go get lunch, head back to BPS and spend another $350. Two trips. Problem solved.
  13. The only time I don't use a Palomar for terminal tackle is when tying on a spinnerbait or chatter-type bait. For those I use the San Diego Jam knot. It's faster (for me anyway) and I don't have to pass the lure through the knot.
  14. Any cheap mono will work as backing and use a uni-to-uni knot to connect the two. As far as tying the hook, I'd probably go with the mighty Palomar. It's pretty hard to beat in most situations.
  15. Entirely possible... but I still prefer the Patriarch.
  16. To each his own, but I'd trade my Curado for a Patriarch 7.1 without a hesitation. It's a great reel, but I prefer the Pflueger.
  17. My 200E7 is mounted on my dedicated spinnerbait rod. My Patriarch handles all of my soft plastics...well, all of the ones I toss with BC gear anyway.
  18. You'd have to be a little more specific. What kind of worms, and are you talking about weighted or weightless? I haven't noticed a casting difference between the two with a 7" PowerWorm, 3/0 EWG, and 1/8 oz worm weight. I've never compared the two with a Senko, but since a 5" Senko weighs the same as the aforementioned 7" PowerWorm, 3/0 EWG, and 1/8 oz worm weight, there shouldn't be a difference.
  19. I have one about 15 minutes from my house, but I avoid that place during their big annual sale. It's just not worth the hassle of finding a parking spot and fighting my way through the crowds just to find out that the item I want/need is sold out. I'd much rather hit the store the week before the sale when they're feverishly over-stocking the shelves. I may not get as good a price, but at least I get what I want.
  20. Having owned both for a while now, I say Patriarch. They're both great reels, but the Patriarch just feels better to me.
  21. X3 If a one-piece 6'8" MXF will fit in this car, it'll fit in anything.
  22. Shimano has explained this numerous times in the past. IIRC, they donate NEW reels to charity so they don't feel the need to be involved in a program that collects and donates used reels. Very few people drop off decent reels for the reel trade-in. The majority of them are well worn reels with little to no resale value. Which would you rather see go to needy kids, refurbished cheapo reels, or brand new Shimano reels?
  23. I apologise for coming off like a *****, but it's a bit of a sore subject for me.
  24. One of my personal favorite "cheap" pipe tobaccos is Captain Black Royal (comes in a dark blue pouch). It's readily available, burns well, tastes pretty good, and smells fantastic.
  25. Wow, what an absolutely asinine statement from someone with little to no actual experience with depression. I guess NIMH are just wasting their time, huh? All of the people suffering with depression just need to think happy thoughts and it'll all get better. :
