Is there such a thing as and all around rod ?
I too am a bankie and I can now easily carry 3-4. However I think that there are a basic 3 that can cover most of the gamut for bass fishing. RW's got that down and hopefully he'll post it. There are some very good "all around" rods out there, but a jack of all trades rod will be a master of a few. If you can find it in your area, the Lamiglas Competitor is a medium action 6'6" rod that can handle jigs, t-igs, spinnerbaits, and even cranks and jerks and even topwaters quite well. Its other specs are: Lure: 3/8 - 1 oz (but I can tell you it effortlessly casts 1/4 oz lures Line: 8-20 lb Type: Casting With those specs, it's about as all around as you can get. I have one and can tell you it is a great deal, value and pleasure to fish with. On a Typical outing it is my all arounder rod for cranks, topwater, senkos and other things like trigs, alpha shotting. I cover the heavier items with the 6'10" MH crucial such as bigger Trigs, Jigs also casting. My spinning Lamiglas, a medium light power and moderate fast actions covers the drop shot and finesse things and it is also capable of tossing lighter and UL lures. This covers most scenarios I face when bass fishing. Lami has an MSRP of $104 or so, but most places will sell them for about $65-90. I got mine for $65.00

Crankbait Line
NOTA. My line choices weren't listed. Sorry.

casting practice
I do all the time and I don't care what the neighbors think. Also, with a healing ankle it's as close to fishing as I'll be getting this season. I work on hitting manholes via pitching, casting opposite handed, roll casting inbetween low and tight spaces, and trying to go as light in weight as I can on occassion. I call it cul de sac casting. ;D

long casting
An inline spinner or a spinner bait? If it is at least 3/16 oz either a casting or spinning reel should be able to hit 40'.

custom curado finished
Would it be too much trouble to ask for specific brands for the paint and the lacquer? Thanks! I really need some more "projects" to do while my ankle is healing. I converted a "princess" training wheel bicycle to a "superman" for my son. It used to belong to his older sister.

Hello, Avid here
That's cool George. Thanks!

Yo-Zuri ultra soft
I hope that my cabela's has this line and if it does, I am going to try some. Sam, Is there a reason you won't use it for treble hook lures? It is a combination of nylon and fc line and based on that, I would assume it would have sufficient stretch to function like mono which in turn should make it a decent choice for treble hook lures.

aluminum oxide guides
Definitely. Most modern guides are braid worthy. Aluminum oxide is more than adequate. Congrats.

custom curado finished
That looks great. What did you use as the clear coat? I think I'd like to try this with my curado or trion.

Hello, Avid here
Be careful with such big words as some may consider you a snob. That said, I have never heard of a diva described as being avid. Perhaps a better choice would be to have said that avid is an anagram for diva. Now maybe I had better go fishing. I am definitely not a snob and was definitely not ribbing Avid. I just happened to notice that his screen name just happened to be a retronym just as pots is to stop. Perhaps I am using the wrong word, but its definition is a word that when spelled backward makes another word. http://www.startwright.com/words1.htm [see retronym (2)] I apologize if I have offended anyone. -Alex

SENKOS....not just for Bass anymore
Talk about resurrection! Anyway, fishing for smallies witha 3" senko I caught a yellow perch. It nailed the senko. Trout have also fallen victim.

Bass & Trout
Many lures that work on bass will also work on trout and many have already been mentioned. I will add drop shotting to the mix. I have also noticed that the use of a lighter line (smaller diameter) seems to help too.

Hello, Avid here
I recognize the name. A warm welcome from the Pacific Northwest. BTW, because I have nothing better to do, I just realized your screen name is a retronym... for the word diva. 8-)

Okay to use Flouro on a Spinning reel???
I haven't tried it on casting reels yet, but I imagine it would be alright. 6# on spinning. Love this line!

Okay to use Flouro on a Spinning reel???
You will need to try Seaguar Invizx. This stuff is very limp, especially for an FC line. I use it in 6# test. Its limpness helps to keep it from jumping off of the spool.

Lighten any rod by 75% today!!!!!!!
I was thinking the same thing! ;D

Sweet Beaver success, problems, & experiments
What is your rod's power rating and the line you're using? It is possible one of those could be a cuplrit or probably cause if it is not the hook. Also, try rigging them backward and weightless. They'll drift away from you on a slack line. Nice way to get into tight spots where other baits would float back toward the angler.

Broken Shimano Crucial Rod
Definitely a bummer but things happen. Actually, any rod can break with as little as 2 lbs of force in the wrong place so don't be too shocked. Now take advantage of the warranty.

Finally got back to the "zone"
That surely is a sweet place to be. For me, it is more than just catching fish and it can happen whether or not the fish are active. It is when you're in such a state that nothing escapes your senses. You're just in tune with everything. Your casts are placed well, you don't mistake a snag for a nibble, your hook sets are pure, and you don't lose a fish from hook set to lipping. I haven't been in that zone this season (out with a broken ankle) with the exception of this past Monday.

What kinda line do you guys use?
Mono: Sufix Siege 10-12# Co Polymer Line: Yozuri Hibrid 12# FC: Seaguar Invizx 6# Briad: 30# Power Pro Want to try: Yozuri Ultrasoft If you don't like memory CXX is a line you won't find to your liking. Yes, it's tough, yes, I like it, but if memory is something you despise, it won't be the line for you. Also, not a good choice in higher lbs on spinning reels. It rocks with casting gear. Just my two centavos.

Almost taken out by a sinker
Thank goodness you didn't get hit!!! That mono loaded up like a bow string. I think from now on, you're probably going to just cut the line with a pair of scissors. Whew!

ideal lure weight for lure weight range specification on rods
Ideally, that should be the case, but you might find out that is not always the case. In my book, if the rod specs say that the range provided on the rod is from x to y, it had darn better handle x to y. In your example, I imagine that it ought to handle 1/2 beautifully, but for me, it had better handle its lower and upper range limits too, or I'd deem it false advertisement.

***Please pass the MOJO-2008***
I do not know how I ever missed this. If the replacement bracelet might need to see some action in the Pacific Northwest, I'm just a PM away. Hats off to you Brian! And everyone else too.

Spinning Rods
.Take a trout ultralight rod and try to flip a 3/4 oz jig and pig in heavy cover. You will then know why or at least realize that it is better to use the right tool for the job. I used to think that way too with my "one rod for everything medium light walmart special." I tried fishing a 1/2 jig and it really felt like the rod was going to break. Short and simple, I just couldn't work the jig like I wanted too. Now there are good all around rods out there for the budget minded and perhaps technique specific rods are better left in the hands of those who have used those general purpose rods and then determined that they want more out of a rod for a specific technique.

Reel Spooler
I use the arbor knot to fasten the line to both casting and spinning reels. I know that some folks use tape.
