I like the Pointer 100 DD's when the water is in the low 40's, seems like the couple extra feet you get helps when the fish are still relating deep. Once the water warms above 45-46 where the fish move a little shallower, I will throw the 100 SP. I rarely throw another brand jerkbait anymore.
  6. Thats what I was looking for. I thought Long and Kerr had abandoned all else and just went around fishing for the WR all the time, stopping to win a tournament here and there.
  7. Thats what I'm saying....why werent Long and Kerr the first ones in line at the park each day? Or at least on the lake somewhere. Not bashing, just wondering why they wouldn't make the same effort as Jed & Co.

Robby, thanks. I have thought about it and still am. It's a lot of money plus a few days off work shortly after missing a whole week to go to Kentucky on the roadtrip. kbj3579 (Brian) who posted above spends a lot of time out there too, he knows where they're at. Dudley claimed Smith Mtn as his home lake at one time, when he lived in Lynchburg. He moved to NC after he won the Ranger M1 and I'm not sure what he calls his home lake now. He did cut his teeth on Smith Mtn though. His dad is one heck of a fisherman too.

A tournament like this is not going to deter BASS from going to any lake in the future. If you've got enough money to throw at BASS' feet, they'll fish your lake. Having a title sponsor's Headquarters in town helps also, keep that in mind. The thing about the Elite's fishing on Smith Mtn two seasons ago and again this year and also in 2010 is that Advance Auto Parts is one of BASS' major sponsors and their corporate headquarters are here in town. Sure, the CoC had to kick out a little cash but Advance is making these tournaments happen. If The Chamber of Commerce is worried about losing an Elite tournament on Smith Mtn, it will be because Advance Auto backs out/cuts off their sponsorship of BASS, not because there's some harmless tournament going on the same weekend that MIGHT have 50-60 boats, like Brian said above. There's probably the same amount or more tournaments that you never hear about going on during the Elite's. You read about it quite often. BFL's for example, (150-200 boats) being scheduled on Elite weekends plus who knows how many local club tournaments. I'll be on the lake for sure but I havent decided whether or not to fish the Beat the Elite thing yet. I'm not a fan of how it is being advertised. And in my opinion, it should've been scheduled the week before they get here.
  10. Matt, now that you mention it, I wonder why Long and Kerr were not there? They obviously knew that Dottie was in there and in spawning mode.
  11. I currently have a Motorguide Tour 109 but only because it was on the boat when I got it. It's only 1 year old and is doing well so far, although I dont feel like it's got 109# of thrust like it claims to have. The previous 2 Motorguide's I've had have been total junk. Very noisy, switches always going bad, etc.... The next trolling motor I buy will be a Minn Kota. Foot controlled all the way for me.
  12. I dont know but it looks like the bass population there went down by 5.

  15. I like a wacky rigged senko or a jigging spoon if I can pinpoint the depth they are holding. A crankbait can be effective on pilings also but you need to be keyed in on their depth. The senko covers all depths.

  18. ....and stop painting the pegs while they're at it.
  19. Take a deep breath guys, this has been a decent discussion so far. P.S. That Duclos guy and his bathroom scale bass had 'em all covered
  20. Sorry to hear the bad news Leo, prayers sent.
  21. I use a 4.7:1 for any and all deep crankin' and I use a 7.1:1 for all my jerkbaits. I guess if I had to pick one to do both as effectively as possible I'd go with something in the 5.4 range, leaning more toward the slower side of things.
  22. can't believe you missed this This is a common occurence in cold water, especially on a non-reaction strike type of bait and could have very well been your problem.
  23. I like the SH with a super fluke on the end of it. Very effective in cold water.
