First time out lures
For us guys who are in the north and our lakes freeze, what lures and baits do you plan on throwing you first time out? For me its a suspending jerkbait, a jig, and a shakey head.

NC pond bassin
What type of pond was it and where in the state? Usually the bass ae done spawnig or near the end of the process by late March/early April. That's strange that they would still be deep that late in the spring, unless they had spawned early and already moved out. It is actually in the Outer Banks. It is about half the size of a football field and about 10 feet deep in the middle. It is full of dinks with a few abnormally larger ones. It has a little bit of sand in it and a weed edge that extends a few feet from the bank. The most difficult part of all is I can't figure out the primary forage in it. It was stalked a few years ago, (in a new house plan) but I havent seen a single bluegill or crawfish. I'm thinking they stocked bluegill and they just got wiped out. Thanks Jake Well the Outer Banks are usually warm year round so I bet they spawn in early to mid March. It was also cold all week last year so it may be different. Besides topwaters, what other lures (preferably soft plastics) would you recommend? Thanks

I shouldn't have said they were deep, they were not shallow but they were starting to move up. It is about half the size of a football field and about 10 feet deep in the middle. Luck "E" Strike Bass Magic swimbait hooks?
I used them in the spring last year. I used the 4 inch ones in Baby Bass color and rigged them with a 3/0 or 4/0 Daiichi Buttdragger Hook. They have great action, (wobble and good tail action) and are very durable. They don't rip easily and are very tough. Good color too. I caught some fish on it, nothing giant, but some quality keepers ;D Good luck

The bass still seemed to be deep in the ponds I fished, with this 1 week difference should I expect anything different?

How much potential?
Saw pictures of this fish (caught twice by the mother and son of the family who lived there) Im sure the 10 years and a 6 pound fish doesn't make sense. The pond was never stocked with bass fry, the man who lived here brought bass and bluegill back from lakes he caught them at. This may be the answer to a fish that big in this pond. But my question was just about whether or not the pond's conditions and features would allow a trophy fish or not.

How much potential?
I am looking for a few opinions about a pond I fish. This pond is about half the size of a football field, and very shallow. It's about 10 years old. It has one deep hole at about 6 feet and this pond is very weedy. It produces a lot of quality fish (3 pounds) but nothing bigger. Most fish seem to be 1-3 pound category. The biggest bass caught here was a 22 inch, 6 pounder about 4 years ago. My question is, this pond being quite shallow, does it have the potential to grow anything bigger than these constant 3 pounders? Nothing more than 20 inches has shown up in about 3 years. A lot of the ponds I fish have one or two abnormally large fish in them, but this one does not seem too. (Pond's forage base, a good amount of bluegill, frogs, and crayfish) Thanks everyone

Reels under $70?
I wouldn't buy a reel for under 70$ They're mostly junk The Revo S is a good reel for its price (110$) Don't be cheap when buying rods and reels

Rebel Floater?
If it has a small bill like the Original Floating Rapala then it should dive a few feet. I haven't fished the rebels but good luck
