  1. There are tons of baits and techniques out there that help us catch deep water bass. Im curious to see what was the most help to you other guys in catching deep water bass. What was the most helpful thing you did to catch bass deep?
  2. Chigger Craw- Black/Red Flake & Mann's Baby -1 in Bluegill
  3. Paul Is The Man! ;D Nice fish
  4. I got my game plan all set out! I've got 3 new Matzou Suspending Jerkbaits Im going to be fishing them on a Cabelas 6'6" M baitcasting rod with a Shimano Citica, 10 lb. Mono I have Spot Remover jig heads (3/16 and 1/4) that I am going to fish with a Zoom Trick Worm as a fineese style bait. Ive been doing some reading and research and these two techniques should work. These will be my two prime baits and I might also throw a Rat-L-Trap and a lizard a when the spawn is a little closer.
  5. Very true ;D But theres no chemicals that could affect it or anything, correct?
  6. I have a Strike King spinnerbait that I wanted to put some greens and browns into so I colored it with a permanent marker. Is there any scent or something from the marker that would make this bait bad to use? I dont want to waste my time with it if it wont catch fish.
  7. The only thing you can do is take a lot of time and fish a bottom-bouncing lure (jig, worm, tube, grub) and figure out where the deepest water is in the body of water your fishing. Making really long casts wont get the job done. I fish a very shallow pond (deepest part is a 6 foot hole), all I have to do is fish that area because I know they will be there in colder temps. What im saying is find the deepest water you can fish and fish it. Thats all you can do in your situation. Good Luck
  8. I do. I have about 2 and a half months to wait. I just try to keep myself busy with bass related things and other things. I get all my gear ready, do research, read books and magazines trying to learn new techniques and what not.
  9. Mexico is a possibility because lakes like Huites and El Salto are younger lakes and may start producing some near world record bass. But out of these three states, California is most likely.
  10. Where do you look for them normally?
  11. This makes sense, but where do you find the big bass
  12. Im with you ;D Im not a fan of jigs, although like I said above a soft plastic craw has been great for me. I fish many farm ponds too and this post is helping me anwser the quesions for those ponds. Thanks The Rage Tail craw is my favorite soft plastic. It's killer in ponds and on the river. I fish the Chigger Craw! Trick worms and shallow bluegill colored crankbaits were great at farmponds this past year. Have you tryed the ragetail craw, or the paca craw yet? If you haven't given them a try, just do me a favor and try them, the action from the claws is simply incredible. If your big on fishing craws, you should love these two baits. Heres another trick with the ragetail craw I use. It works when you can get away with using a small bullet weight, which is often for me, unless I am trying to break through some real thick weeds. I'll keep my rod tip high, and retreive the bait at a fairly fast speed, so it burns over the top, the feet will paddle and it looks like a frog. I'll also lift it up off the bottom sometimes when I approach weed mats, then bring it ontop of the weed mat and slowly twitch it like you would a hollow frog. Both techniques work great for me, definetly a bait I keep in my arsenal. And as with any other craw, you can always shorten the bait and use it as a trailer. (Works great for a swim jig/chatterbait). Extremely versatile bait, theres no doubt about that. I like the chigger craw too though, I find the scent to be a big plus. Theres just something about that berkley scent. I cut em in half alot and use em as jig trailers. Only thing though is the claws from the chigger craw just don't swim like the paca or ragetail. I like it as a finesse bait, but when the fish are aggressive I prefer a ragetail or paca. I'll say it again, if you haven't tryed the ragetail or paca give them a shot, or see if you can find yourself a video of them, im sure theres a few on youtube. You'll be amazed when you see the action the claws produce. I will have to give those new rage craws a try. You must not be fishing the same Chigger Craw as me ;D they have a great action. The claws flap wave in the water with the slightest movement. The key is to make sure the claws are seperated by tearing the two tags off that are between them. The nice thing about the chigger craw is that its claws are very thin and float. When the bait first falls to the bottom its claws point strait up and wave like a defending crawfish. They slowly settle to the bottom like a crawfish letting down its guard. Then once you it again its claws go right back up. An action thats hard to beat! ;D

  15. Actually, I do tend to catch my biggest fish in that April/May period. I have become more of a soft plastic craw fisherman opposed to a jig.
  16. Some of you fish small lakes and ponds on here. When you have heard stories of one or two giant bass in these waters what do you do to try to catch them? What lure and technique do you go to first? 2. When you fish a new pond and you want to catch the biggest bass in it, how do you approach this situation? Thanks
  17. Spring is a great time to catch smallmouths in the bay along with largemouths. If your looking for size then out in the main lake would be a better choice, at least thats what i've heard. For the summer, im still trying to figure that one out. ;D Presque Isle and the rest of Erie is a great place to fish once you figure it out. Like any other lake of course ;D
  18. I read an article in a book wrote by Babe Winkleman that said he caught some really giant largemouths on musky sized spinnerbaits. He said it was the deal that he got quality and not quanity. So if your looking to catch some giants then getting a few may be useful.
  19. Last year I used 30 lb. Sufix Braid because didnt always fish in thick cover with it. I would fish shallow water with a little bit of weeds or what not. I want to move up to 50 lb. braid but if im fishing semi-open water then would this create a problem because of to much line thickness? Thanks
  20. What's to hate about him? Nothing. He seems like a good guy and puts much time and effort into his fishing. He's got great talent and doesnt trash talk. Go KVD! ;D
  21. I think i've made my decision and am going to get the St. Croix Avid Series 7' MH as a soft plastics rod. Im thinking that I will put 12 pound monofilamant line and pair it with a Shimano Citica. Does this sound like a good combo? Thanks
  22. How much do you want to spend? No less than 90$ and no more than 200$
  23. ;D Ok guys look, im looking to use it for all types of plastics (Texas Rigging) so im looking at a 6' 6" MH. Im not sure which companies make the best rods. Thats where I need some suggestions I already own: 3 Bass Pro rods 1 Quantum Cranking rod I do not want another Bass Pro rod or a Quantum. I would like a new brand to use. Im looking at All Star Rods and St. Croix Rods. Thanks
  24. My oldest baitcasting rod is about 3 or 4 years old and is loosing its backbone and sensitivity. I got some gift cards to basspro for Christmas and im going to get a new rod with some of the money. What is a good rod? I just have cabelas, basspro, and a quatum rod. I want to try a new one? Any suggestions? Thanks *Pairing it with a Shimano Citica
  25. Im debating on which new shimano reel to get. Shimano Citica vs. Shimano Curado Which is better and can you give me some thoughts about either? Thanks
