Ok I'm officially offended..
The spots are on FIRE right now on the Alabama River. My uncle and I caught 26 over the weekend. He has been back twice this week and caught 23 more. I love this time of year.

Going to try and start brim fishing
I think you will soon find out that bluegill are a blast to catch on light tackle. I have been most succesful with live bait; such as, crickets, wax worms, and catawpa worms. If you want to go with a lure, you should try a bettle spin or small crank. My favorite way to catch bluegill is with a flyrod using a round denny popping bug; especially during the mayfly hatch

Rod and reel handle grips.

Drop shot help needed
I fished a drop shot rig for the first time this weekend. I got alot of bites but was unable to set the hook. What is the best way to set the hook on a drop shot? Do I need to let them take it a little more? I was using a 2/0 standout hook on a MH rod with 12# test. I tried setting the hook as I usually do: wait for bite, reel in slack, lift rod to feel weight of fish, and than yank. What is the secret? :-/

fishing the coosa river in alabama part 2
I think you will find the majority of fish in less than 12' in coves, ledges, and creek mouths. For tackle, I would use t-rig MAG II, spooks, and shad color crankbaits. For worms, watermelon and pumpkin seed seem best. If you find current and shad, you will find spots. The water temp will be in the 60's maybe low 70's

Rain gear
I have a browning rain jacket that I am very pleased with. It was around $100. I have not purchased the bibbs yet.

Love this warmer weather!
I just got back from a great weekend on the Alabama river. We had great weather with highs in the mid 70's. We found spots in 12' of water around a creek mouth. Almost all of the fish were the same size and caught on a crankbait. These spots fight so hard. Things are starting to heat up and in a few weeks it will really be on fire. Here are two of the fish I caught.

Would you eat a pot bellied female bass full of eggs in the spring?
That is an excellent point. I think bass taste delicious, but I only eat them a few times a year because it is a pain in the butt to clean them and break out the fryer.
