  1. I use the giant sized Ziplock bags for bulky items. They work real well.
  2. The biggest problem I have is seeing the line. What color line do you guys use in clear water? I've been using green but have switched to clear. It is still hard to see unless the fish just starts swimming off.
  3. You may want to check with your State Fisheries department about it. It may have been a hybrid species.
  4. I don't know about what they have been eating, but bass will change color based on water color. The clearer the water the darker colored the bass and the muddier the water the bass will be almost white in color.
  5. Oldham (i think) sells a tube head with a wire weed guard. They use to see them at BPS or you may do a search for Oldham. They are out of Wimberly TX. I use these heads and they are great. I guess I need to find some more.
  6. Alan Henry near Lubbock TX. It turned out 6 this year over 14 lbs. I've fished Fork, great lake y'all should come and try it.
  7. That is too bad. I have never had any trouble with Lowrance, once you get through the computer maze. I think I would write a good old letter to Josh's boss and drop it in the mail. With e-mail and computer menu's companies have forgotten how to provide customer service. But I would try that before I would go to RayMarine. JMO
  8. I usually look for the longest point in the area, this way you can fish the different depths until you find the fish. As stated deep water is relative, if the fish are use to a large flat with lots of cover a ditch 2 ft deeper than the flat would be deep water. Finding the activity level will help point (pun intended) you in the right direction
  9. I have caught fish midday on windy overcast days. Depth depends on the fish, I usually fish them in shallow water, but have seen guys catch em over grassbeds in 10-12 ft of water.
  10. There are a lot of sites available. But as has been stated, this one is by and far the best. As well as being well established. All of us are willing to help out the best we can. Welcome aboard.
  11. Chevy Suburban 350 2 wheel drive pulling an 180 Pro ProCraft. I haven't had any ramp problems. Even with our brutal Texas winters. ;D
  12. I always have a plan and the baits to cover the water I'm fishing. But keep an open mind, and be ready to change if needed. I have seen guys go out with a plan and try to force feed the fish with what they think they should bite and get skunked. When I pre-fish I'll go through most everything I carry and then have my rods ready come tournament day. Without some kind of plan you waste a lot of your time tying and retying.
  13. I installed one in my boat and love it. It keeps the fish alive and healthy. I am using the Big Bubbles system and it is inexpensive and works great. Keeps the fish going even in the Texas summer heat.
  14. I use vinyl lure paint. I don't air brush, I paint mine by brush. I have found it doesn't chip as bad as enamel paints.
  15. Go to www.standouthooks.com and check them out. There is also some photos.
  16. To help keep your hooks in the proper position, I would recommend that you buy some StandOut hooks. They are designed for dropshotting and are great hooks. It is a great technique, I am just starting to use it and it will catch fish
  17. I've stopped using on board chargers. I can't keep one working for more than a year. I just use the old fashion portable type. Besides that give me more space for stuff
  18. Go to www.tackleunderground.com, there are a bunch of tackle manufacturers on that site that sale baits to fishermen as well as do custom work. Check them out
  19. I run an XR6 and love. My last motor was a Yamaha and it ran for 18 yrs with 2 rebuilds. But Glenn is correct about Merc using Yamaha powerheads, particularly in their 4 strokes. Merc sued Yamaha for dumping (it was reported on Bass Resource earlier this year.) But the ITC didn't find any evidence. Either motor will give you years of reliability.
  20. Eagle or Lowrance. Can't go wrong
  21. I do think that fish can get conditioned to baits, particularly when everyone is throwing them. I have always like fishing gitzits but the last couple of years gotten away from them because they weren't producing. Last Sunday, it was one of those windy, blue sky, hot Texas days, Slow tough fishing. I pitched one under a dock at noon and caught a 5.51 LMB. Restored my faith in the little things.
  22. That is a good point. I had always used jig heads on my small tubes, but a couple of years ago I started doing the same thing. Insert a piece of worm in the head to help hold the hook. I still like the internal jig head for a different fall, but this allows you to rig it another way
  23. It all depends on how much you want to spend on gas and insurance. The 250 will cost you more in both cases.
  24. Another thing it can be is once the fish bite and you set the hook, if he is biting down on the line or weight you won't move the hook enough to get a set. Then all they have to do is open their mouths and gone.
