I have used the VMC Spin Shot drop shot hook with some success although it's not my favorite. Line twist when drop shotting for me mostly happens if and when I do not rig whatever plastic I use DEAD ON STRAIGHT. If it spins at all, even on the fall, it will totally twist up my leader and even my main line eventually. So I always make sure boat side after I rig and check for spin. I've even had drop shot weights that spun. I am a NO SPIN guy now. A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I have both the Tatula & the Vanford in 3000 Both very nice and IMO you can't go wrong with either one. Especially given how you plan on using them. I will add that I recently picked up a Shimano Stradic FL ( also in 3000 size which is my preference) and I Really like it - as much or perhaps even more than the other two. Nope. Thankfully, that sort of deal doesn't happen much here. However when it does, our dogs are trained (and heavily rewarded) to 'greet' those folks at the full length glass window adjacent to the front door. Poor buggers don't usually stay very long and rarely do we get a second calling. Every once in a while, we'll get a human on the stoop who is willing wait us out and I'm always very gracious when informing them that 'we're not interested'. J/K (sort of) A-Jay

Ah yes, the age old problem - fishing super deep. So hard to do effectively, and so few baits and or techniques will do it well. In fact I'm willing to say it's the shortest list in bass fishing. Not too many tournaments won at the 40 ft depth. Can a vibrating jig do that ? Maybe but IME, you're not going to be able to keep it moving AND Keep it on the bottom. Just not designed to do it - just look at it, the blade pretty much forces the bait to move up. Hard enough to fish it in on the bottom in 15 ft feet let alone 40 ft. I'd say you're fighting a losing battle. A single bladed spinner bait is an option, but it will need to be at least an ounce to start. Even a dense swimbait needs to be stopped or paused to re-establish bottom contact. At these depths, most anything you throw in more than 30 feet will as well. How about vertical jigging with a big spoon ? A-Jay

I agree with @Mobasser in that I bet that sticky mess was left behind when some type of tape was removed. I was also going to suggest just about everything previously noted here already including dish soap and Goo Gone. Swimbaits on a jighead (up to 1/2 oz) for brown bass in mostly open water happens on M/F spinning gear for me. Light braid & leader is my go to. Throw in more soft cover and or jigheads over 1/2 oz, I like casting gear. https://youtu.be/02fPoZHOri8?t=1007 A-Jay
