  3. It was getting to be time to replace the cranking battery in the Pro-V Bass. The new graphs have been making it work pretty hard. Obviously, spending a few more months in the frozen tundra, this is not that urgent. But a good deal is a good deal, and this one I could not pass up. This 31M EverStart Platinum AGM Marine / Deep Cycle Battery, was very reasonably priced. #offseason We'll see how it goes. A-Jay

  7. It's December, the last month of the year. I just wanted to say thank you to those who have been loudly or even silently supporting us. To those who reached out when we were struggling, even when we didn't know how to ask for help. To those who simply stood by us without even saying a word.   13. A while back, I extended the handles on a couple of glass cranking rods. Wanted to be able to two-hand cast them for better distance. Clearly this is a mostly permanent modification. Short version - I glued a short section of old, tight-fitting blank which extended a short distance up into the existing rod handle/blank. I left enough of the end of the that exposed to glue the new/longer (butt ends from damaged rods) handles on. Worked out OK and is completely functional. A-Jay

  17. Interesting turn of events. Seems to make it somewhat complicated to know who or what to believe. I'm up for the idea of state records (and maybe even world records) being grouped by century. We could have the fish recorded as records catches during the 1900s, and then another list of record-caught fish recorded in this century. Doesn't mean one catch is better than another, but it might reinvigorate the pursuit of catching record fish again. Especially as the world has changed and there seems to be so much—let's call it mystery—surrounding some of the oldest deals. Like this one—half a century later. Either way, my years of training have not left me crippled or less capable than if I were sedentary.   22. Agreed ~ and I've been trying to dispel this myth for over 10 years. While there are what has to be considered an insane number of 3-6 lb bass in Lake Baccarac, if a basshead makes one of these trips and truly wants to catch a double-digit fish, deliberately fishing for them can seriously improve one's chances. There are a lot of ways to go about it. Fishing with the right gear & baits, in the right places and at the right times, cannot be overstated. However, IMO, your guide is key. On my first trip in 2013, the bigger bass were hard to find. I could have gone shallower and caught plenty of fish, but there was a good chance the bigger fish were deeper. And they were. The morning before, if memory serves, @Dwight Hottle landed 3 fish over 9 lbs. in one magic spot. Then at the end of the 4th day of our 5 day trip, I had ONE BITE All Day. One. But it was the right one. It just wasn't my turn. Like @king fisher mentioned, subsequent trips can improve one's odds.
