  1. I am retired and I'll get out when I can (insert safe). But I can openly admit to being a serious weather watcher. Wind direction & speeds (over 15 kts) usually dictates which Lake Menderchuck I'll be on. Plays even a bigger role in the Canoe. Either way, I have been known to get a little giddy in advance of a launch when the 'forecast' is a certain way. But as @TnRiver46 pointed out above, seems the weather man & I have completely different ideas when it comes to the meaning of the word 'accuracy'. So the whole deal ends up being "fluid". 2. After a while most of us can tell jighead weights by simply looking at it. Once Tungsten hit the scene, that threw me off a bit, as they are often much smaller than the lead baits. But I'm getting better at that as time goes on. Either way, what a bait actually weighs can of course offer a starting point, however I will always defer to 'how it fishes (trailer included)' over what it might 'weigh'. Fish Hard A-Jay

  5. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Interesting first post. You'll need to post a much cleared pic and or some additional information (make, model ) before it's value can be accessed accurately. Either way, they are all only worth what someone is willing to pay. And as @Bluebasser86 mentioned, may not be much A-Jay

  7. The lake you fish may seem weird to you, but it has one very important characteristic that is EXACTLY the Same as every other body of water on this planet. It can and will take you away from everyone that cares about and loves you. Stay Safe A-Jay

  9. I use the unit installed on my rig - religiously. Highly recommend everyone do the same. Not certain on the legality of them in this instance, but Jet Ski operators have been wearing wrist bands to attach the kill switch lanyard for a while now . . . https://www.amazon.com/PRO-FLOATING-LANYARD-WRIST-BAND/dp/B00PCS3L1A/ref=sr_1_18?crid=1VWNM12AHC9UO&dchild=1&keywords=boat+kill+switch+lanyard+wrist+strap&qid=1622590110&sprefix=Kill+switch+lanyard+for+wrist+%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-18 A-Jay

  11. Many rigs have hatch latches that can be 'adjusted' to help with reducing water intrusion. Usually a small nut on the latch that can be positioned to get a snug closure. Over tightening these in usually counter productive. If your boat has a 'gasket' or a slightly raised 'lip' inside the compartments, one way to determine how the lids actually 'fit', is to apply caulk (I use white or blue) on the entire 'lip' area. Then close & latch the lid. Once opened again, anywhere the 'caulk' has not transferred' to the lid, is usually where the H2O is getting in. Often a simple hatch latch adjustment can help. Again, do not over tighten - just a snug closure with decent gasket contact is the usually best we can do. Good Luck A-Jay
  12. May come down to what one considers 'Big Bass' ~ My definition includes Green Bass of 7 lbs and Brown Bass over 5 lbs. Plus size bass for me is all about ~ 1) Being in the right place 2) At the right time 3) Doing the right thing At Times, each of these can seem Very Tricky . . . . Fish Hard A-Jay

  17. Just a spare trolling motor prop and extra shear pins for me. Although I do have a prop wrench on board to remove the prop and clear a line or whatever if need be. Also a spare Flo-Torq II Hub Kit in case I spin one. A-Jay

  19. Bait color has been a rabbit hole I've gone way down, came out of and then gone back down again, many times. As mentioned here all ready, doesn't seem to matter, until it does. There's two concepts that I follow when selecting bait color /pattern with baits that are being presented on or near the bottom in particular. I either want the bait to be close to or MATCH the color / shade of whatever the bottom is I'm fishing OR I’ll go with a color pattern that is WILDLY different - Like Clown. When a bait is 'traveling' up off the bottom and perhaps 'through' soft cover, same deal applies for me. So I want my bait to either appear like it’s trying to hide / blend in or standing out badly, and I do prefer no middle ground. In the clear waters I fish, Perch or a 'clear/glass’ perch works over darker bottoms, Ayu works in the sun over sand, and when the fish are truly suspending, I use a glass minnow, smelt type deal. So that kind of simplifies it a little at least. At times a some flash is a good thing, like chrome or gold in slightly colored water, other times it may not be the best choice. I also believe that light level plays a significant role here as well. Brilliant sunshine usually calls for something a little more subtle / toned down, whereas cloudy or overcast days, see me reaching for a darker or solid color patterned bait. Topwater seems to be it's own separate yet somewhat similar deal. My preference here is selected based mostly on the type of sky above. Either way, I'm considering the baits silhouette against the water's surface & the sky vs the bottom color. Fish Hard A-Jay

  22. You know I've considered it . . . All said & done, I like my rig & set up. I can upgrade my accessories and still keep what I have if & when I chose to. The trips to Mexico take a pretty big bite out of crime. Can't see giving those up any time soon. A-Jay

  24. Regardless of the season for me, one very important factor to consider when trying to 'predict' where to be & when, revolves around what I think (or hope) the bass may be looking to feed on in a given area. Much of the time here that often involves yellow perch & crayfish and that played out again early in 2021. However this year, there seemed to be a fairly strong perch spawn as I was seeing more than usual; both in the way of small schools in the shallows and following my bait to the boat. The presents of this bait is almost always a good thing and when I could be around it, seems the plus size Brown Bass were too. Fish Hard A-Jay
