  1. If the bite is off - I'm doing recon. SI DI 360 imaging - GPS Mapping So I'm idling & scanning something with the electronics. #iburngas A-Jay
  2. When the air is hot & sticky, catching bass can be very tricky. But when the ferns begin to yellow, the biggest bass are sure to follow. A-Jay
  3. Use ~ FC Line A heavier bait - 3/4 oz plus A slower retrieve speed and or a pause to reestablish bottom contact. A reel with a gear ratio less then 7:1. A-Jay
  4. Nicely Done Glenn ~ I carry Signal flares & a PLB Personal Locator Beacon. While not a 'requirement', can be the difference between life & death. Sounds dramatic but it's the truth. I've seen it. A-Jay
  5. I do not fish tournaments. So there's no need for me to compare myself or be better than another bass angler. I am however, forever competing against the bass and myself. Consistently learning any aspect of the sport and any success I may have are my measuring sticks. Net, scale & camera use tells the story for me. Some trips I manage it all, others, not so much. I do not feel like I was born with any angling skills. But I fell in love with it early in life. And over the years have built a decent set of usable angling skills through time on the water as well as trial & error. Finally, I'll never know it all, nor would I want to. YMMV A-Jay

  7. The site's awesome ~ How much better can it get ? A-Jay
  8. You can, just be prepared for the 150 inches of snow that starts in November and lasts 6 months. It was 42 degrees when I got to the lake. Great windows open sleeping weather. A-Jay

There are a few models out there that allow for the user to select and or change the hook type/size. Mustad & Strike King both make them. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Mustad_Fastach_Football_Weight/descpage-FOM.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Tour_Grade_Tungsten_Swing_Football_Head/descpage-SKTGTSH.html A-Jay
  10. The late summer sun cracking the horizon and a little fog on the lake, screams walking bait in my world. Just wish the fish knew that A-Jay

  12. The dream shot is a very effective bait. But the Flat Worm is IMO, Totally next level. Seems like crack for the local brown bass population. Can't explain it but I like it. A-Jay
  13. Scored some MaxScent Flat Worms at the local sports store today. Sweet price too. Grabbed all they had. A-Jay

  15. I'm an avid spinning reel angler and have been for a long time. Several size reels (25, 30 & 40) for many different applications; from finesse fishing & drop shot, top water & jerkbaits, to tubes & swimbaits. Always with a braid main line & a leader; mono or FC. But Never on a shallow spool. Not a fan. The line capacity is simply insufficient for my needs. Thankfully the brands I use offer both shallow & deep spool options, which I'll always take advantage of. A-Jay
  16. I use a Master lock on the trailer coupling. More of a super secure way to keep it in place rather than an anti-theft device. As a motivated, prepared and committed human could easily defeat it. However, thundering down the highway at ramming speed, with just the standard 'cotter pin' there, makes me a little nervous. I feel much better if I lock that mother up. A-Jay
  17. Whatever you do, do not Drop Shot with a Rage Craw ~ Might get your arm broke. A-Jay
  18. When it comes to hook rash on baits, trebles of the same design (round bend or ewg) usually all perform in a similar manner, regardless of price. The Owner Short Shank Treble Hook ST-35 adorn many of my treble hook baits. (Not for a tail hook though) This short shank treble is different in that it features 150-degree Premium Point Position design, which splits two hook points out 150-degrees versus the typical 120-degrees between all three points. This allows the hook points to be positioned slightly farther out from your bait and help increase your hook up percentage. Opening the gap to 150-degrees also minimizes damage to your bait from the hook points, while keeping the hook points sharper over time as well. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Short_Shank_Treble_Hook_ST-35/descpage-OSSF.html Note: Owner Stinger ST-35 Short Shank Treble Hooks are designed to be used with baits that have the hook hanger in line with the length of the bait. These will not hang correctly on lures that feature any hook hanger that is perpendicular to the length of the lure – some of the offerings from Megabass for instance. Had to include that because as great as these trebles are – they do not work in the situation described. Finally, I believe it's fair to say we all want to land the fish we hook, especially the plus size models. Investing a little extra scratch in quality hardware is a means to that end. Whether or not one is participation is a tournament may not change much. Good Luck A-Jay

  21. I use a single uni knot to rig my drop shot. Just have to pass the tag end back through the hook eye to attach the weight. btw- if you're using the FC as a leader in front of a braid mainline, or even just a spool of FC, there is no law against using a quality mono - and the knot strength is certainly a whole lot better. Just sayin'. A-Jay
  22. Perhaps look at something like this ~ https://www.amazon.com/KastKing-Fishing-Wraps-Medium-Inches/dp/B07C3WRLBJ/ref=sr_1_50?dchild=1&keywords=kast+king&qid=1597703169&sr=8-50 I use them on the rigged rods in my boats rod locker, which is often somewhat over capacity. Really helps to keep treble hooks from finding a problem. I talk about them briefly here : A-Jay
