Why buy a high end reel (metanium dc, steez...)? Are they worth it?
This is such a loaded question. Been batted around here so many times in the past. My version of it is, if one has the means, is vigilant in caring for and maintaining tackle as well as routinely servicing gear (either personally or professionally) then it's 'worth it'. If all of that is not part of a users deal, then no, it's not worth it. As for will it help one land a fish . . . Maybe - maybe not. Perhaps think of it as a choice - between taking a Limo home from the airport or a 1980 Pinto. Both might get you there but which one offered the best experience ? We'll each have our own opinion on that too. btw - if you choose the Pinto don't forget your fire suit. A-Jay

What's Your Take On Spiral Or Acid Wrap Rods?
All of my experience with spiral wrapped blanks came from the saltwater arena and were used when fighting large hard pulling, long running game fish; in particular with stand up gear. The designed is promoted as better for the blank, especially when under a heavy load with the fish vertical or under the boat. By transferring the line path to the bottom of the rod you eliminate performance damaging “torque-twist” caused by traditional “straight-set” guides inherently causing the tip section of the blank to twist and torque over while under the strain of battling big fish. I could go either way on the whole thing as I was just as successfully landing fish with conventionally wrapped sticks without ever breaking one. Can't say if it was any more 'sensitive' for sure, but I kind of doubt it. As for it's suitability in bass fishing - I don't see it being any actual advantage at all. A-Jay

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Thanks ~ This is a good news/bad news deal I'm sorry to say. The good news is that every drop shot fish caught this entire month has come on the Berkley Max Scent Flat worm. Green Pumpkin and Natural Shad. Admittedly the more I caught with it the more I fished it. About a week into it, it's been The Only thing I've thrown. Sort of sad because my drop shot plastics bag weighs 10 pounds . . . Seems obsolete at this point - the flat worm is like bass crack, right now anyway. Bad news is that unless you have some or a solid local supply, the bait is hard to get right now. A-Jay

What keeps me going...
July means drop shot & mostly fun size fish for me - did today. But come mid-August and running straight through until hard water, The bigger brown bass start to come shallower more often. I look forward to that like a kid a Christmas. Additionally, in 76 Days and a wake up ~ I hope to be using my passport again. A-Jay

Counterfeit Seaguar Invizix?
I am a faithful Invisx user and have been for a few years now. Did go through the confusion that came along with how Seaguar changed their spooling process without telling anyone. Returned a couple of perfectly good spools and took a little beating $$ price wise too. Not a fan of that. Either way, 20 lb Invisx & Tatsu has accounted for several trophies for us while fishing south of the border. These fish are stout & super charged and any line flaw will be exposed is short order. No problems with it at all. In fact the 20 lb Invisx accounted for this Beast of a Bass caught by none other than Big Fish Jeff. I say use it with confidence. A-Jay

You newer anglers need enthusiasm then experience
This could apply to all types of adventures and just about any species you'd like to list, and as veteran bassheads we all have our own version of it but . . . . Bass angling = 90% fishing (which includes a staggering number of both on & off the water deals) + 10 % catching. and that's on the Good Days . . . . . . Tell me I'm wrong A-Jay

The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
For over 55 years - Baseball Was Summer for me - Well, it happened quickly - three games into it. I went from, "I just can't wait to watch the Red Sox play !" To "I just can't watch the Red Sox play !" The whole empty ball parks with no fans, the canned crowd noise and the card board cut outs of people in the seats ? Just Bizzaro - Don't take me out to any ball game. ? A-Jay
