  1. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
  2. Right. Because those awesome stock treble points last for ever. A-Jay
  3. Non-Hook Changers Unite ! I change and or up-size just about every treble hook. Feel better this way. Even offering All the stock hooks here for sale. Hundreds in fact. Still up I think. Basically giving them away for the cost of the shipping. Figured with so many bassheads preferring them, they'd be gone quickly. Nope. So I'm that guy. A-Jay
  4. I launch & recover my rig solo quite a bit. While there's certainly many ways to get this done - here's one. Also I installed the Ultimate bunk boards (supreme) on this trailer last fall. Been very pleased with them. Many of the ramps I frequent have a fairly gradual slant, positioning the trailer into the right depth helps a ton, regardless of what type of bunks are used. A-Jay
  5. Happt Birthday young man. A-Jay
  6. Seems like you may be asking this one rig to be three boats. Good on idle only water could be OK on mid size lakes but could experience limitations on 'big water'. Easy to see that the reverse could be a concern as well. I say it starts & ends with hull. It's the only aspect that can't really be altered. Perhaps select the platform that suits your needs the best where you plan on spending the most time. Here's a few things to consider: Size & shaft lengths on the two trolling motors. Brand, type, condition of the batteries. Brand, type & capabilities of the on board charger. Condition of the trailer and everything associated with that. Good Luck A-Jay

Mine first car was a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500. Two-Tone cream & white. It was my parents ride. Right after I got my license they 'sold' it to me. I didn't really get a very good deal. Car was a Tank and I thought I was the man at 17. Had it a coulpe of three years in the late 70's. Burned almost as much oil as gas. Was horrible on the New England snow. Piled several friends into that ride and spent many nights cruising the beach. Had a great "back seat". Also met quite a few LEO's who didn't like my driving style; which may or may not have included some tire smoke and a bit or excess speed. Heat didn't work so I drove any distance wrapped in a green army blanket. Traded it in for a 1970 Ford Maverick. I don't know what I was thinking there, hated that car. I don't have a picture. A-Jay

  9. This one on Lake Menderchuck ~ SK KVD 300 Deep in Ayu and here's just one of the Many Brown reason's why . . . . . . A-Jay
  10. 7 pound brown bass all the time and 25 lb bags ~ That is outstanding ! Hope you'll share some pictures with us. A-Jay
  11. It's hard to tell but the bottom row and some of the middle row are doubled up, so there's like 22 in that pic give or take. Casting rigs double up easy. Spinning rigs take up more space. And yes there is a color code deal going on in there with the rod sleeves. Makes it easier in the heat of battle to grab what I think I need. A-Jay
  12. After several decades of successful casting revolving spool tackle, a couple of years ago I picked up my first and only DC reel. Just had to see what all the fuss was about. Got a SHIMANO 17 Scorpion DC 100 HG I will tell you that after a couple of seasons of use - while the DC aspect works well, IMO it is NOT a magic bullet that totally prevents back lashes and makes super long casts. When compared to any of my other quality standard reels, it casts the same; just makes a funny noise. I tell you this so that you might understand that a casting reel is a casting reel; DC or not. And to get super max distance, it still requires the same somewhat refined casting technique that comes from experience. However, like any decent casting reel, if the user, turns 'up' the reels brakes appropriately (regardless of type), uses decent technique and allows the reel's brakes to work correctly, along with perhaps just the smallest of user input, effective casts can be made & fewer over runs may be experienced. Might not break any casting distance records but you can most certainly present baits effectively and in a manner that will allow you to catch bass; from shore or a boat. Hope that helps. Below is a clip of casting with a Moderate rod looks like - this one happen to be a composite stick with a non DC round reel. . A-Jay
  13. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ You can always venture into the BR Flea Market to see what a comparable rod may be selling for. Routinely older and even refurbished sticks can be a tricky sell. Unless a basshead is seeking a particular blank, resale value is often surprisingly less than original Msrp. If you like it, that rod, once repaired may be worth quote a bit more to you than what it may bring you; especially once you figure in the cost of quality components and then paying to have it re-wrapped, rather than doing yourself. Finally, I've redone a few sticks, nothing fancy. Just very basic wraps. It's not very complicated and there's plenty of how to info out there; you already mentioned my go to, Mudhole. Good Luck A-Jay
  14. Hi Mike ~ There is a very simple one word answer that will, over the course of time, totally resolve most ALL of the challenges associated with learning how to use a bait casting rod & reel. Practice. There is no time table linked to it and there's no replacement for it. There's no short cut or magic setting. You can read about how to do it, you can watch videos about how to do it, until your eyes fall out. But you still have to get out there and practice casting. We've all done it. Very few bassheads pick up a casting reel and cast it out 200 feet first time out. In fact, in the beginning (and even later on), accuracy will trump distance all day, everyday & twice on Sunday. Just go cast your new set up, you'll get the hang of it. Good Luck A-Jay

@roadwarrior - covered it well below. While Megastrike has a very mild odor, it's not a horrid stank by any means - and certainly no worse than what we experience holding a bass. Which you may see a few more of should you choose to use it. I apply it with my fingers on the non-reel handle hand, as it's a little 'slippery'. That's great for the bait but not so much for reel knobs. I always have my fish reg handy for a quick & easy wipe off / clean up. A-Jay
  16. I am a big fan of the Thunder Willow (Oklahoma) blade. Distinct Thump. I've had to upgrade the blade hardware because the brown bass kept biting them off. A-Jay https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Picasso_Thunder_Willow_Replacement_Blades/descpage-PTWRB.html
  17. Most any day light bait can be a productive night time bait for me And vise versa But this one has been a good low or no light bait The teeth marks on the blade tell the story. I never fish it during the day for some reason. Might need to change that A-Jay
  18. As the 30 Days & a wake up point inches closer (tomorrow), the latest update is a positive one. Our no-pilot situation has been quickly rectified. The lodge owner, also a pilot and a pretty busy human, has arrange his schedule (not sure what that means exactly) in order to fly us there & back. So that's got us feeling fairly optimistic again. Hope that continues. A-Jay
  19. IMO, Not normal. Been running a Lund Pro-V Bass for 4 years. Got it new in 2016. Hull is bone dry unless it's raining or I'm taking waves. Certainly a selling point with a all brands. No one's selling very many new boats that 'leak a little'. Seems you've done due diligence to locate a possible reason. While it's still under warranty - get it to the Lund dealer. Be ready to contact Lund directly - may be what it takes have this resolved with the least amount of BS. Because there's bound to be some. Bottom line is, although it's not a lot of water, your hull leaks. And if the bilge pump croaks you're in for more than you bargained for when you purchased the rig. Good Luck. A-Jay
  20. Nice Brown Bass ~ Congrats A-Jay
  21. That's pretty sweet. On both accounts. Congrats A-Jay

  23. 32 Days and a Wake up~ Unfortunately, this trip is currently 'in the balance'. Guess it was bound to happen. Boils down to Pilot Availability for the charter plane to the lodge. Scheduled man has backed out and finding a replacement is proving to be a challenge. We're staying optimistic but it's about 50/50 right now. A-Jay
