I do not bring the liquid dip. Too much of a chance of a problem / mess. I do bring and use spike it pens. Much safer and seem just as effective. I will say 'some' of the guides carry the dip in their boats. Finally, the lake levels look promising at this point. Good Luck & Safe Travels. A-Jay

I hear ya ~ So in order for your motor to have 3,500 hours on it on 21 years of service . . . . If you made 100 trips a year (averaging 8 a month) you would have to run the motor for just over 90 minutes per trip. If you made 50 trips per year, you'd need to run it for just over 3 hours per trip. Might be fewer hours on it than you think . . . A-Jay

While knowing the 'hours' can be helpful, Compression, I believe, will be a better indicator of the health of the motor. And that can most certainly be determined. Good Luck A-Jay

While I do take care of my gear and treat it in a manner that promotes longevity, the few times I've blown up a guide or fractured an insert, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have mattered what it was made of. The survival rate was going to be very low. Like I said, that's a rare occurrence. So I say go with whatever guides you prefer and just get to casting. A-Jay

Cold spring mornings are the norm here but it almost always warms up. The important part is I get bites, sometimes big ones. In fact, a couple of Aprils ago I had a decent morning in the snow. This ~ Also a friendly reminder. We can check the life jacket inflation integrity without canister discharge by using the manual oral inflation tube. Most every inflatable jacket has one. I test my own unit at the beginning of each season in the tackle room. Also, when the canister needs replacement, before I do it, I put the jacket on and fire off the manual pull feature. Offers another way to ensure the unit operates correctly. These things build confidence for me. Stay Safe. A-Jay

It's been 'feeling' like it for a few days now and we finally got our first measurable snow last night. A whopping 1 inch. Some left in the grass but nothing on the roads. It shouldn't be much longer before we get a few lake-effect dumpings. With a 150-inch annual snowfall average, there needs to be at least an inch falling every day now for the next 5 months or so. The faster the lakes freeze over, the less evaporation occurs which is both a good and a bad thing. Longer open water means more snow, which could be good. But it also often results in lower lake levels if it stays too warm for snow. Last year was great for the area on both fronts. (except for the super damaging ice storm in March). Time will tell how this season plays out. Stay Warm A-Jay

The 200 hp ProXS is a 4.6L V8—"fuel efficiency" seems about right for how I run it and what I get out of it. Truth be told, I pay more attention to the tach, trim, engine temp & water pressure than I ever do to the fuel gauge. Either way, after 5000 rpms, it's fun but she gets pretty thirsty. A-Jay
