  1. The majority of the medium to large lakes in & around my neck of the woods, have a decent population of very respectably sized Pike and or Musky. I do bass fish a good percentage of the time, fish these most fertile waters enough and you're bound to bump into them. I too think they are just very cool and enjoy catching them, sometimes when we least expect them. Accordingly, I fish with a decent trace of wire much of the time. Helps me keep my baits but also assists in having a better chance of landing one of these toothy beasts. Admittedly smaller pike can be a nuisance at times, tearing up baits, catching the larger more robust versions of both is always a rush. I don't land them all but have been fortunate enough to hold a fair number. A-Jay

  4. SK 1.5 & 2.5 have been my go-to's for a good while. I fish them because they get bites although I do change out all the hardware right out of the package. Early season the 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X has been very productive for me. I do fish these baits in rattle & silent versions. More recently there's been a new contender that's competing nicely with that 6th Sense Squarebill. The Megabass Sonicside It's a silent bait that casts & runs great (maybe a foot or so deeper than any of the baits mention above). While it commands a traditional 'Megabass' $$, it does come with some very nice hardware & hooks. The GP Pro Perch pattern is seriously sexy, especially in these very clear waters. A-Jay
  5. I have HUK & Cabelas Guidewear - both are very good. Also check out Simms ~ They offer some quality gear as well. A-Jay
  6. While reels keep getting faster and rods keep getting longer, I never understood why. I tried fast reels (over 7:1) lost fish. All but abandon their use except for a few specific applications. Other than a longer cast, an over sized stick does not suit my style. A 7 ft blank is 'long' for me. If a deal doesn't address or correct a problem, I move on. YMMV A-Jay
  7. If this is property you OWN, and these folks are Trespassing, I'd post Two Signs in Plain View. No Trespassing and Beware of Dogs. And then get a couple of these and let them have the run of your land . . Might help. btw, if they have a problem with your new security system, tell them to call the law office of Ura, Moron and D'Zervit. A-Jay

  11. Hello Elliot and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I have a question for you, if you're up for the challenge. Here's the situation; You haven't done any DIY projects in several years. There's something in your neighbor's home that needs repair. You don't know what it may be and you've never been in this home before, but you have to fix it. You open your dusty tool box and can only select one tool to get the job done. What do you reach for first and why ? Personally I'd go for the Adjustable Wrench. Doubles as a hammer. Good Luck with your one lure deal. A-Jay
  12. "Weather Report" wind forecasts are IMO, Wildly inaccurate; in both direction and velocity. They might as well simply stop providing it. Most times it's virtually useless. as for what speed is do-able ? Use Safe as your guideline and after that, it's how much can you effectively fish in ? This was me today, being highly ineffective . . . A-Jay
  13. Thanks . . . Me Too on both accounts ~ Good Luck. A-Jay
  14. Bite's getting better by the day . . A-Jay

  17. Enjoyed some sun (and wind) on Lake Menderchuck today ~ Got on a few too. Everything was 'fun size'. The 41-ish degree water temps required a virtual slow-motion jerkbait approach to get bites. I'll be glad when things pick up - on all accounts. Not complaining though. A-Jay
  18. LOL Don't know about that - wish the brown bass thought so. Lately I've been more of a Casting guru . . . Getting good at that ! A-Jay
  19. While I am not a giant fan of chasing brown bass in the heavy rain, mostly because I've had little success, there have been several trips where I could get a few 'between' the fronts. Had to deal with whatever came before & after. But net, scale & camera use trumps that action. Bottom line, if it's safe - go when you can. You never know what tomorrow brings and it's not promised to any of us. Good Luck A-Jay

  25. Uni-Knot or San Diego Jam for end of line needs and a uni to uni or a blood knot for any line to line connections. Back in the day I used the Mite Knot quite a bit. Might hold, Might Not. Can't tie a knot - tie a lot A-Jay
