Working to Stay Lean ~
Thanks ~ PowerTec Leverage Gym I purchased this unit in 2009. Building a home gym at 50 years old seemed like a decent way to all but eliminate any excuses. I had some space restraints so that played a role in my purchase. The unit in the link below is what I have - although it looks like it's changed a bit in the last 10 plus years, seems very close. I highly recommend it. https://www.powertec.com/workbench-levergymr A-Jay

Taking your fishing to the next level
Reading about and watching videos of what other bass anglers do, can be very helpful. However for me, often times the info doesn't totally 'translate' to success on the water. So I will say most important factor for me that definitely Improved my fishing for both numbers & especially size was to make a concerted effort to find my own fish, my own way. Also using my own definition of what a successful day on the water was, not someone else's. Many times that means there's bass caught. Sometimes that means there's a ton of 'scouting' - especially on new & / or big water. If I feel like I've 'failed' for some reason, that can put me in a bad place mentally, and especially spiritually. Makes fishing the next time out far less enjoyable - perspective can be very powerful. When my mind's right - It's just Better. It would be all kinds of awesome to splash the rig and take off, stop at every spot & wack big bass, but that may not happen all the time. (OK hardly ever for me). If & when I can learn something / anything about the the bait or the bass on a trip - I'm feeling good. Some of my most anticipated trips are when I've spent two days looking for the bait & the bass and right before I leave on the second day, I find them and leave them biting; knowing I'll be back before first light the next day. Well that's a long sleepless night for me - regardless of what actually happens the next day. A-Jay

Lake Baccarac Lodge In Mexico
Pro's vs Joes . . . LAKE FORK, Texas – After a record-breaking week on Lake Fork, it should come as no surprise that the 80 MLF pros totaled a whopping 80 bass over the weight of 6 pounds: 36 6-pounders, 22 7-pounders, 13 8-pounders, seven 9-pounders and two 10-plus-pounders. Justin Atkins caught the largest bass in MLF history with his 10-pound, 8-ounce Lake Fork monster, and Jason Christie caught a 10 and a 9 on the same day! So they started with 80 guys fishing 6 days for 44 over 7lbs and including 2 over 10 lbs Not Bad. And then there’s Lake Baccarac Lodge ~ Fishing 6 days in Oct 2018, Big Fish Jeff & I didn’t do too bad either. While we did not count the 6 pound fish (there were too many of them) here the numbers for TWO Anglers Our 53 bass over 7 pounds broke down like this 20 Bass Over 7lbs ~ 20 16 Bass Over 8lbs ~ 16 11 Bass Over 9lbs ~ 11 4 Bass Over 10 lbs ~ 4 1 Bass Over 11 lbs ~ 1 (11.30 lbs) 1 bass Over 12 lbs ~ 1 (12.23 lbs) Numbers don't lie. I saw this pic before I read who it's originator was, but I already knew in advance who's name I was going to see @Will Wetline I love this one, but unless I'm throwing this one pretty deep (which as I recall you are) unfortunately so do the pike here, especially the smaller ones. And they bite them right off - every time. #hateit A-Jay

What should my IPT be for Jerkbaits?
Unless you are 'reeling' a jerkbait in as part or all of the retrieve, the magic of this presentation is ALL done with the rod. Additionally, the vast majority of the strikes occur on slack line, so being able to take up that slack in advance of the hookset is usually beneficial by coming tight on the fish faster. Accordingly, a 'faster' gear ratio reel is where I lean in all cases. A-Jay

A blessing and a curse!
Good on you @12poundbass Not knowing or being unwilling to 'learn' how to rectify minor house hold challenges, can make owning a home quite a bit more worry some & costly. For me much of it was learn on the fly. My ace in the hole is my Dad 'loved' taking stuff apart. Growing up I was always right there getting a super useful contact high. Unfortunately in the past few decades, much of that gear is obsolete. A man's gotta know his limitations and mine revolve around 'lecticity' and Natural Gas. #jackofalltrdesmasterofnone A-Jay

New to Jerkbaits
I like spinning & casting for jerkbaits ~ both sticks are medium / fast and on the 'shorter' end. I will use a 7' to 7'-4" spinning rod when looking for max casting distance. 6' 9"-10" is the magic spot for me on both when 'working' the bait hard - for line 10-15lb braid on spinning gear (suffix 832) and a 10-12lb big game (green) mono leader about 10-12 ft. All 10-12 flouro on casting gear. When I use Mono leader it's big game, Braid main lines are Suffix 832 green and fluorocarbon line & leader is Seaguar InvisX or Tatsu - I buy reel fillers spools for leaders and bulk spools for mainlines in Everything (braid & Flouro). This was a decent jerkbait bite a couple of springs ago. Looking forward to getting into this again ASAP ! A-Jay
