Optima Battery
There may be more than one company doing it - but Optima Blue top marine batteries are Dual Purpose. They are designed for engine starting and deep cycling applications, as well as for use in boats with large accessory loads. https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/bluetop-dual-purpose-deep-cycle-and-starting A-Jay

Backing to mainline knot?
While Big Game is reasonably priced, it's Very decent mono. I use it for backing & leaders. As for a mono to mono knot - I'm a Blood Knot user & abuser. And you can take that to the bank ! (I don't know why I said that . . .) A-Jay

Braid to Fluro
I like Sufix 832 10-15 lb and Power Pro Maxcuatro Spectra Braided Line Moss Green in 20 lb. For leaders, I like to use mono when I can. Big Game & Maxima Ultragreen in 8lb. When I use FC it's either InvisX or AbrasX - never less than 8 lb. As for backing, that 2500 has (what in my world is) a shallow spool. So I'll spin on a little less than a 1/3 of a spool of 10 lb Big Game and fill the rest with the braid mainline. A-Jay

What's your go-to jig head for A-Rigs?
I use the same head - very effective for me on a few stout brown bass. 1/8's & 1/4 for a keel. Picked up a few Dirty Jigs Finesse Swimbait Jig Heads in the same weights to try this season. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dirty_Jigs_Tactical_Bassin_Finesse_Swimbait_Jig_Head/descpage-DJTBF.html A-Jay

Replacement Treble Hooks
Stock Treble hooks – I change them. All my topwater, jerk, rattle, square & crankbaits, even blade baits & spybaits all get aftermarket trebles. And topwater baits that have feathers, also get changed out, I just tie up my own. (So easy, even an A-Jay can do it) Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hook, Gamakatsu EWG Treble Short Shank Magic Eye and Owner Short Shank Treble Hook ST-35 all adorn my baits. Especially like that Owner ST-35 (Not for a tail hook though) as it features 150-degree Premium Point Position design, which splits two hook points out 150-degrees versus the typical 120-degrees between all three points. This allows the hook points to be positioned slightly farther out from your bait and help increase your hook up percentage. Opening the gap to 150-degrees also minimizes damage to your bait from the hook points, while keeping the hook points sharper over time as well. Note: Owner Stinger ST-35 Short Shank Treble Hooks are designed to be used with baits that have the hook hanger in line with the length of the bait. These will not hang correctly on lures that feature any hook hanger that is perpendicular to the length of the lure – some of the offerings from Megabass for instance. Had to include that because as great as these trebles are – they do not work in the situation described. Any & all questionable split rings are traded out for Owner Hyper wires. (including Line ties) A-Jay

When do you take hard baits out of their package?
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I tried doing it in the store a few times but apparently that's frowned upon. So now I wait until I get in the truck ~ A-Jay

Winter weather ‘19-‘20
Can't speak for everyone but, I get used to it. At this point in the winter, it's not really 'cold' unless it's in the single digits or less. If there's little to no wind and some sun - 20 degrees is 'nice out'. A-Jay

Best mono as leader
It's all about line diameter. Brands do not use the same standards for measure. The 12 BG is apparently the same diameter as the 14 Stren. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Trilene_Big_Game_Line_Green/descpage-BTBG.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-STRN.html?from=basres A-Jay

Bass Pro Tour – Lake Okeechobee, FL
OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — With two gorgeous days of practice under their belt, the first 40 pros competing in Qualifying Day 1 of the Favorite Fishing Stage Two Presented by Bass Cat were less fortunate with the weather today. The wind is blowing right now and is expected to gust upwards of 30 MPH throughout much of the day. Sprinkle in some light rain and it has all of the makings for a rough day on the water. Still, the wind won’t stop these pros from competing. MLF officials have decided to allow anglers to trailer in instead of everyone putting in at the same ramp to avoid problems the wind may cause. Going to be some tough sledding. A-Jay

Best mono as leader
I have used Stren. First time was a while back - gas was 33 cents a gallon. At that time it was a mainline only and it was decent. I haven't used anything made by Stren in several years. Big game is very reasonably priced and does everything I need it to do as a leader in tests between 8 and 12 lbs. A-Jay

Best mono as leader
In the 6 to say 20 ft leader lengths I'm using it in, and coming off a bulk spool, whatever 'memory' it may have, is inconsequential. A-Jay

Best mono as leader
This in also my leader of choice ~ Big Game Green has been making it happen for a long time. Honorable mention for me also goes to Maxima Ultragreen. Really strong in every respect; especially down in the 5, 6, & 8 lb tests. A-Jay
